Today on MMA Nation on 106.7 The Fan: Leonard Garcia, Scott Christ, UFC 113 Preview, Kid Nate

Live streaming video by Ustream

Remember, our new time slot from now on: Sundays 9 to 11pm EST.

Today on "MMA Nation" we'll be joined by Leonard Garcia (#13 ranked featherweight in the world) to talk his bout against Chan Sung Jung, the WEC product and much more.

We'll also be joined by the Editor-in-Chief of BadLeftHook.com, Scott Christ. Christ will help us go over last night's Mayweather vs. Mosley fight, the likelihood of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao in 2010 and if there's anything left for "Sugar" Shane Mosley.

Later in the second hour, we'll have Kid Nate on to discuss the latest movers and shakers in the USA Today/SB Nation Consensus MMA Rankings.

And, of course, we'll be breaking down UFC 113 and taking all of your calls:

- Can either Machida or Shogun decisively defeat the other man with game plan adjustments?

- Does Paul Daley have enough takedown defense against Josh Koscheck?

- How many PPV buys will the show do?

"MMA Nation" will air tonight 9:00pm EST to 11:00pm EST on 106.7 The Fan. To listen live over the Internet, go to The Fan's website and click "Listen Live".

I'm also on Twitter: @mmanation.

AS A NEW FEATURE: We'll stream the show live over UStream.tv. Here's my channel. I'll embed the live stream player in this post when the show begins. If you want to ask a question for us to answer on air, leave a question in the comments section. We'll get to all of them.

"MMA Nation" is also available by podcast on iTunes. For now, iTunes is disabled, but the show will be posted on the station's website soon afterward. I'll be sure to put a post up when they're ready to go. And when we're back on iTunes, I'll put up a link to that as well.

Email here.

Talk to you then.

The station is in control of it

If I could just start my own feed on there, I would. I’m not allowed to. I have to wait until they do. Considering they’ve only done the morning show’s iTunes set-up and not even Lavar Arrington’s/Chad Dukes’, it’s going to be a while.

Am I happy about it? Of course not. I hate it. Is there anything I can do about it? Nope.

“- Does Paul Daley have enough takedown defense against Josh Koscheck”

The answer to this is almost surely no, Daley better hope one of those first few punches finds their mark quickly.

or that Kos wants to try his stand up early on.

Yeah but I can’t think of any reason he’d wanna do that and I don’t think he will.

Kos better win

Otherwise its just like throwing the black version of Hardy in there

Except Daley could actually put out GSP if a punch lands.

Hardy bettered opponents around, but only has one highlight KO. Daley has a career of them.
Of course, knowing that, I doubt GSP would waste any time standing. Kos might do it to prove a point, but GSP isn’t that dumb.

He has also lost to such luminaries as Luiz Azeredo and Nick Thompson.

Dammit. If you're referring to "bettered", I meant "battered".

And no, Daley doesn’t have a squeaky-clean record. I’m only saying he hits much harder than Hardy.

Yeah, that whole “Hardy has great one punch KO power” thing was just a myth perpetuated by the UFC machine. The guy hits hard but he’s not exactly Mike Tyson.

what do you think about Team Rough House’s inability to hang with wrestlers? they’ve never beaten a guy with a wrestling base; can the team of mostly strikers significantly improve their wrestling without going elsewhere?

by Stillberry on May 2, 2010 8:53 PM EDT reply actions

Team rough house suffers from the lack of knowing who Royce Gracie is

And what ground fighters can do to even larger/superior strikers

couldn’t find a random non-douchey bar with no cover? that’s your own fault

by Stillberry on May 2, 2010 9:11 PM EDT reply actions

I left DC before i was 21, so i only know Baltimore really, but i had many options up here without cover for the fight last night. went to Don’t Know Tavern in fed hill

by Stillberry on May 2, 2010 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions

The average cover at Buffalo Billiards is 0-$5 don’t know if they show boxing though.
I don’t think its that terrible there, at least compared to a normal night out at a bar, but a good viewing party is preferable especially if you want to pay attention to the fights as the number 1 priority.

by SES 84 on May 2, 2010 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

That bar

Shows fights in standard definition. Never going back there.

Lucky’s in Kingstowne Alexandria is alright, Bailey’s in Ballston is pretty good, the Hard Times in Fairfax is ok too.

Those are the only places I’ve frequented for fights that aren’t my own apartment or a friends place.

I generally don't like to watch sporting events in bars, or with people I don't know in general.

I don’t need to hear whacked-out arguments about how Randall Cunningham was the greatest QB who ever lived, or how Brock Lesnar hasn’t fought anyone. That’s what the barbershop is for.

by phillyhoosfan on May 2, 2010 9:13 PM EDT reply actions

I totally agree with going to the bar for fights.

I am starting to move away from it. With cover, drinks and food (have to get there early too or else there are no seats), I easily spend more than what it would cost to watch it at home. If my girlfriend comes along? Forget about it. Way too expensive. And inevitably, I have to sit there with some asshat that bitches whenever the fight hits the ground. I hate people so much.

Nope. Unfortunately I can’t hear anything from the website, cause It’s not available in my area (Canada) which sucks. So all I’ve got is Luke and his bearded mug on Ustream, haha.

by pud333 on May 3, 2010 12:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Hey Luke

I was the first caller… Asking about Garcia/Sung, not used to calling radio shows so I fucked up lol. But if you could address the Koscheck/Daley issue, I would appreciate it. People dont fully understand that wrestling strength is a major factor and working a few months on a sprawl isnt going to change that. If koshcheck chooses to stand with daley I predict he gets murdered but if he is smart and keeps to his wrestling then theres no chance for Daley. You cant develop a defense to that in a few months

by dreamers_12345 on May 2, 2010 9:23 PM EDT reply actions

Daley’s standup isn’t infallible. Nick Thompson picked him apart

by Stillberry on May 2, 2010 9:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Picked him apart standing?

Hardly, the best thing Thompson landed all night were the jabs in round 2, which also happened to be the round where Semtex dropped him. Daley was landing with leg kicks and hand combos the whole fight.

The Goat did well with the jab, and certainly they played a part in him winning, but he really won the fight with his top control. Daley landed the much more powerful shots throughout.

Plus, it’s not like Koscheck has the kind of reach/ height that Thompson has, and Kos isn’t really known for throwing straight punches very often anyway. All in all, standing with Daley for any extended period of time would be a very bad call on Kos’ part, and given that his wrestling is light years ahead of Semtex, it’s his fight to fuck up.

What do you think the fans’ reception would be if they awarded Shogun the first fight against Machida. Do you think there would be a huge outcry, more so than the Machida decision got. Also do you think Machida can knockout Shogun and vice versa.

Luke,
Question for SC:
Where does Mayweather stand in comparison to the all time greats? PBF has been getting alot of flack for saying on “Jim Rome is Burning” that he is the greatest of all time. Just wanted to hear his opinion.

by xDieseLx on May 2, 2010 10:01 PM EDT reply actions

Frank Mir jumped from unranked to #10 by beating a 1-0 Brock Lesnar. How was that possible? Now a top 10 fighter he jumps to #2 by beating Big Nog. Since beating Big Nog he’s 1-2 with losses to #5 Brock Lesnar, #6 Shane Carwin, and was able to beat #17 Cheik Congo. And you think Eddie Alvarez is ranked too high?

by John Nash on May 2, 2010 10:38 PM EDT reply actions

Luke,
Kimbo Slice is a great draw on free TV, but do people actually pay to watch him fight? He is an unproven draw on PPV and this fight will really determine if he is a PPV fighter or Fight Night headliner.

by xDieseLx on May 2, 2010 10:44 PM EDT reply actions

700 buys.

I think the first fight did 500 or something, right? (someone correct me if I’m wrong). I’m giving Kimbo the benefit of the doubt and say people will pay to see him.

by pud333 on May 2, 2010 11:00 PM EDT reply actions

Yes, 104 did right around 500k, 700 this time around is a bit optimistic but not unrealistic.

Listen via the 106.7 website not the stream which is just Luke’s webcam hookup in studio. The podcasts will be up there tomorrow (based on how fast they went up last week).

i wonder if there’s some way the phone call audio could be connected to the Ustream. but then again the station might not sign off on that since it could cause local (and i guess anyone in U.S. who gets the website feed) listeners to use the Ustream instead of radio or 106.7 website.
