Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery Post-Fight Interviews
Alistair Overeem talks about his win over Brett Rogers and then calls out Fedor Emelianenko:
It's time for Fedor to step up and face me. I think everybody wants to see that fight... I want to see that fight. I'm excited. Fedor is considered one of the best fighters in the world. I respect him a lot you know. The things he showed to the MMA world in his PRIDE days and now in Strikeforce. He's amazing. I respect him a lot, but I want to fight him... I want to become the best. He is the best. I want to fight him.
Also, here's episode 2 of the documentary entitled "THE REEM", which details Alistair's final preparations and weigh-ins leading up to this bout:
More post-fight interviews from Alistair Overeem, Scott Coker, Roger Gracie, Jacare Souza, Rafael Feijao, and Jesse Finney after the jump.

I like Overeem and all
but he seriously shouldn’t be acting like Fedors the one thats been exiled to Japan for the last couple of years.
Training BE since January 2010
Fedor def should be the one 2 STEP UP
his steady diet of ducking the best for the last few years has been crazy … Overeem has at least been fighting the best on some level (K1) .. Fedor’s lack of desire 4 top competition is making him an irrelevant force in the heavyweight division
so then Dad goes and turns the knife on her .. then he turns to me and sez ........................................... Why so Serious ??

For the record
Arlovski was ranked #2 and Sylvia was #5 in the BE consensus when Fedor faced them.

HW division has a lot more depth now ..
People gotta get off Fedors nuts .. He WAS the p4p best at one point but he just aint anymore …. Micheal Jordan was the best coz he was in the bestleauge playing the best competition available .. fedor is fighting in the equivallent of the D-leauge
so then Dad goes and turns the knife on her .. then he turns to me and sez ........................................... Why so Serious ??

Acknowledging that the fighters Fedor fought were top 10 at the time he fought them is riding his nuts?
If Derek Jeter clubbed a baby seal on earth day while wearing a mink coat and crocodile skin boots while burning tires on an iceberg, the reaction would be "Its OK Derek, you’re a Yankee." -First mammal to wear pants
Those two were a bit over rated, I guess most are until we see them laid out for us. But they were rated on past achievements more than current ones (much like Fedor is).
I think that no matter who a fighter beat 4+years ago, we should look at who they beat in the last couple years and think about how we would rank a brand new fighter that had performed that way.
But actually, I think if we want to have revisionist arguments, we should list all the past five fights of all the top guys and lay out the betting odds they had against them before their fights to see how equal of an opponent they faced. When money is on the line, a lot of opinions seem different.

Fedor hasn’t been ducking anyone, he has been fighting the best competition that he is able to fight outside of the UFC.
Fighting Sylvia who was just coming of a title shot in the UFC and considered one of the best is not ducking.. not to mention fighting AA who is an ex champ and on a 5 fight win streak. Add in the fact that he was going to fight one of the top fighters in Barnett and is now going to fight a dangerous Werdum (depending on which one shows up) I’m no sure how he is ducking anyone.
Just because he hasn’t fought Overeem who has been fooling around in K1 and fighting cans in MMA means really nothing.
"We knew it could get out of hand..." Dick Jauron following 56-10 loss to New England.
Because he decided to sign with Strikeforce he ducked the UFC. Could it be he is allowed more freedom with Strikeforce and the M1 copromotion aspect ? Who would he be afraid of in the UFC?
Root for the home team jack ass
He would have been free to compete in any Sambo competitions if he signed with the UFC. M1 could have spammed as much ads on Fedor’s closes and corner banner. I think M1 would have gotten more exposure spamming their name all over Fedor in a UFC event then they were as a co-promoter with Strikeforce. Fedor also hasn’t even competed in Sambo since he was last a free agent.
which is also
what ubereem has been saying recently.

that shouldnt be an excuse
If fedor is the best he should be in the organization with the other 4 members of the top 5 and stop fighting lesser opponents regardless of managment

Can you put Fedor partially to blame for staying with M-1, sure you could but regardless the bulk of the blame is on M-1 right now. Like Aleks said, Fedor is just their marketing tool.
Food goes in here
Fedor is one of the owners of M-1 Global. You have to hold him at least partially responsible for the actions of a company he owns when it comes to career decisions involving him.
Who knows where Fedor thinks he should or shouldn’t be when deals are discussed? The point is that Fedor isn’t some hapless fighter signed to M-1 Global he is part owner of the company and thus should be held responsible for what they do and don’t do. He can’t have a pass on any of this because he does have enough control over the company to stop them from doing what they are doing if he so desired.
Since he is part owner he would be part of the blame but I wasn’t there for the negotiations with the UFC so it would be hard to fault M1 for no signing. What I do know is that Dana White bad mouthed Fedor and M1 leading up to the him signing with Strikeforce. I don’t know about anyone else but if the boss of some company bad mouthed me for months leading up to a job interview I would be very diplomatic during negotiations.
Root for the home team jack ass
I’m sure you were making this same argument two years ago when he signed with Affliction and the only top 5 fighter fighting with the UFC was Big Nog – who Fedor had already beaten twice.
There’s really only one reason Fedor isn’t with the UFC: money. Apparently Fedor wants too big of cut for Zuffa’s taste. Can’t blame for asking for as big of slice as possible. Can’t blame Dana for saying no.
by John Nash on May 16, 2010 3:57 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
It wasn’t money as even M-1 has said that the UFC made them the best financial offer. They aren’t in the UFC because M-1 Global doesn’t desire to get Fedor a huge contract they desire to build M-1 Global as it’s own promotion. It’s the same issue they are having with Strikeforce right now it’s about M-1 getting exposure for the entire company not just Fedor. Zuffa will pay Fedor a shit load of money and promote the crap out of him but they aren’t going to co-promote with M-1 Global or let M-1 have rights to show Fedor’s events overseas or feature a bunch of other M-1 Global fighters on cards.
That was part of the problem, but do you think m-1 would have said no to a 40% split of a Fedor fights revenue? The same deal a Pacman or Manny gets in boxing. I always thought that one of the of the reasons Zuffa hates m-1 co-promotion offers is because they know it’s a means for m-1 to get a large cut of the action when they co-promote.
by John Nash on May 16, 2010 4:18 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
They weren’t even asking for co-promotion the first time around through negotiations but they were trying to piggyback other Red Devil fighters into the UFC. It’s why Kiril Sidelnikov and Gilbert Yvel got Affliction fights, M-1 is insterested in building a competing fight promotion by using other promotions to build their name on. They know with the UFC they could make Fedor more money than with any other org ever but they can’t get the UFC to agree to help them build their fight promotion up.
I agree with what you’re saying. In fact I have pointed out the same fact numerous times in the past. But apparently I am too drunk/tired/incompetent to convey my actual point, so I’ll wait until the morning.
Good night, my good sir.
by John Nash on May 16, 2010 4:40 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
I think I get where you are coming from for the most part but yea for me it is nearly 4 in the morning and things are a bit loopy too(not to mention I am currently on major pain medication due to a recent accident). It would be nice if someone like Michael Rome would dig in a write an article on what it would take to get Fedor vs Overeem in 2010 as opposed to what the UFC has/will offer Fedor and just what it is that M-1 Global is after in negotiations with both.
As for the 40% split, that isn’t co-promotion that is just a bigger chunk of revenue(and boxing is a completely different system than MMA). If they were just looking for a bigger PPV percentage like that then all they would of asked for was a bigger PPV percentage not a co-promotion. Heck by what was rumored they already got Fedor the most money any MMA fighter has ever been offered, if it was just about the money they wouldn’t be fighting in other organizations for significantly less.
What they want from Co-promotion is “M-1 Global and UFC present” as the headline for entire events so that casual fans think that M-1 Global is a top knotch promotion on par with the UFC. They want to one day be a top tier fight promotion and have control of broadcast rights in Russia. This isn’t about Fedor it’s about building the company as a whole but why would the UFC help to build up a future competing organization? Fedor in Strikeforce doesn’t make near as much as Fedor could in the UFC but M-1 Global has infinitely more control and input with Strikeforce than they ever would with Zuffa.

Yes but look at it this way
Yes they get 50 % of the Strikeforce/M-1 Shows but that money probably doesnt equal 10% of a UFC show. I dont know that for a fact and that is why said probably.
I know mmajunkie had an article up saying that Fedor vs. Rogers didnt make a profit. How that affected M-1 if at all I dont know.
I’d be willing to bet that Brock Lesnar with his cut (and we know Lesnar is not getting 40-50%) made more money on UFC 91 and UFC 100 than Fedor and M-1 make with their 50% of Affliction or Strikeforce.
So do I think it comes down to more than money? Yes. Because if M-1 and Fedor take the UFC deal then they dont get to make or have input in any decisions, they dont get the M-1 name out there, and they dont get M-1 fighters on the cards.
And if all that I just listed is not important to M-1 then why did they sit there and go through the whole ordeal with Strikeforce.
Something fishy is going on!
Rogers looked confused, got tossed around like a rag doll and then covered up and didn’t try to get up. Something’s wrong…and don’t get me that Overeem is that much better crap cause he isn’t. Rogers put up a fight against Fedor and then folded as soon as the Overeem fight started?

No there isn’t, Rogers just got beat, plain and simple. Your hint of suspicion isn’t shared by anyone here. Overeem just showed he’s WAY better than Rogers or were you watching a different fight.
According to Showtime, Rogers only landed 1 punch, no kicks & nothing else. He was physically overpowered when he was tossed to the ground then GnP’d. If that isn’t domination, then I don’t no what is derreckla.
Rogers put up a fight against Fedor and then folded as soon as the Overeem fight started?

Is it that suprising that both fighters weighed in around the same weight but the fighter that was rock solid threw the doughy fighter around?

I also absolutely could not believe that the scared challenger we saw last night was the same fighter from November. I made a joke about the alien body snatchers getting him because that performance smelled like a lake full of really smelly fish.
I must admit than I am more hyped for Fedor vs Overeem than I was before but I still worry that Strikeforce isn’t going to be able to pull it off.
Well I’m interested in if they’re gonna try and build this up to a PPV and if so can Strikeforce sell a titlefight on PPV consisting of 2 europeons?
Food goes in here
There's the biggest hurdle
If you’re Fedor and M-1 do you fight Overeem for the $2 or $3 mil that CBS/Strikeforce can possibily scrounge together or do you demand more, maybe hold out for a ppv? This is their big money fight and there isn’t going to be any big money in it.
by John Nash on May 16, 2010 4:10 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
For M-1 the money just isn’t going to be there but maybe if they can get M-1 fighters featured on CBS they would go for it, they really are wanting to grow their own company. Without CBS behind Strikeforce then what’s the point? As a PPV this would hit 200k max and that isn’t going to get them the exposure or money they want but if they can get CBS to play up M-1 Global as an actual promotion then maybe it would be worth it. Either way the money just isn’t going to be there.
I dont know if they will go PPV
I think M-1 would try and push it because that is the most money they could make.
But I think CBS would also be very interested in a Fedor/Overeem Title fight for the fall and so that in lies the problem.
If CBS tells Coker and company that hey we want to do another show in the fall with the Fedor/Overeem title fight even if they want to do PPV they cant really tell CBS no. If they decide to tell CBS no CBS can pull the plug on Strikeforce if they wanted too.
Of course this is all speculation but if CBS wants the fight and M-1 wants it as a PPV it could get really ugly because CBS is Strikeforce’s lifeline but M-1 controls Fedor which I think will be required for any future CBS event. I also think that even if CBS wants the fight they wont go higher than about 1.5 million broadcast fee(1.2 million now).
Like I said all speculation at this point but if Fedor beats Werdum (as expected) it will be really interesting to see which route they would try and go.
you should have added this separately imo

Ariel Helwanis interview with The Reem is 10x better.
Anyway, does anyone think that M1 might actually bolt to the UFC now? I mean, if he loses to UBEREEM thats about it. In the UFC I can only see Carwin beating him and he would get a FATASS contract out of them.
Things are getting interesting!

If they were smart they would bolt. Overeem has a great chance of beating Fedor and if he does then Fedor is worthless to Dana White. I think there is a few guys in the UFC that would beat him, not only Carwin.
