In an interview with MMA Weekly, Paul Daley says he is moving on after being released by the UFC, following his UFC 113 post-fight attack on Josh Koscheck:
"That’s it. All over. I got my walking papers this morning and I am glad that things are now official. It’s a shame things went the way they did, but on the brighter side of things it opens up a lot more doors for me," exclaimed the British bruiser, adding that his next venture into combat will be on the other side of the world.
"I am fighting on a pay-per-view show in Australia on July 3 with a lot of other big names, and I have other offers in the pipeline."
"My plan is to string a couple of fights together before the end of the summer and hopefully get on one of the grand prix shows. We’re currently talking to both Dream and Sengoku about getting a slot on their shows and there are some really good fighters there I can match-up with."
"Boxing is still an option," added Daley. "One of my training partners is Rendall Munroe and his trainer is currently speaking to (boxing promoter) Frank Maloney on my behalf. I want to do both, fight MMA and get my boxing up to speed, but I want to do them concurrently."

He might do o.k. in boxing...he does have a pretty SNEAKY hook.
On a serious note does anyone know the “big names” on the Australian Card?
I love Daley
But he’ll need fall in love with his jab a little bit more to be an effective boxer.

Same promotion, different card.
Impact FC is holding a bunch of cards within a few weeks of one another.
July 3rd is in New Zealand. July 10th is in Australia with Barnett/Mondragon.

I have a feeling I'm going to have to wait awhile
before I see Semtex in a U.S. promotion again.

Yeah, I don't think Strikeforce will touch him
Bellator might, but I’m with you I’m thinking it’s gonna be years.

I actually think that Strikeforce would jump at the chance to get him back
But he clearly wants no part of that suspension, and given his experience fighting around the world, it doesn’t seem like he has much motivation to work things out stateside.

Kicks are just another decent weapon to use against a guy like Daley, boxing is far better suited for him.

There’s a heck of a lot of dough in boxing if he’s a) any good and b) can build some hype around himself in that community.

Kinda surprised he didn't mention Strikeforce as a possible landing spot...

This part made me laugh:
The MFC promotion in Canada has a show coming up in August and there is an option for Daley there, according to him. MFC operates on an Indian reservation and is thus exempt from a governing commission. Australia and Japan also both operate sans athletic commission.
A) They don’t operate on the reservation anymore, and are subject to a governing commission;
B) Daley missed weight at both MFC shows he was on;
C) Pavelich has already said he doesn’t want him back.

Really?
I understand a sucker punch like the one Daley threw is despicable, but it really couldn’t have happened to a better person in Josh Clownbabycheck.
He had 15 minutes to hit Kos before that if he wanted to do it.
Pussy move to do it when a guy’s back is turned, regardless of who the guy is.

who are you arguing with at this point?
I mean I get it. You don’t like the guy. You think he’s a thug. You’re happy to see him leave, and eagerly look forward to the next four years of the Shields-GSP-Kos-Fitch wrestling championship.
But who is defending Daley’s actions? You’re responding here to a guy who called it “despicable”. The only question is whether Dana should have banned him for life or maybe thought about it for five seconds and imposed a more reasonable penalty. Nobody is arguing the benefits of sucker punches.

Daley doesn’t have the mental ability to be great. Everyone is talking about the sucker punch but he purposely eye gouged koscheck while on the bottom. He’s a mental midget… like tyson , he cant handle things that dont go his way. Unfortunately unlike tyson he’s never achieved anything significant.
I hate these pussies who talk and belittle opponents because they wont stand and bang… this is MMA. if you want to strike go box or kickbox – but then most of them realize they cant make it there either.

Why stop at Mike Tyson?
why not compare him to Charles Manson? Or maybe Stalin?
Paul Daley’s professional career dates back to 2003, and as far as I can tell, this is the first time he’s been involved in a violent incident with another fighter. His actions against Koscheck were reprehensible and should be punished, but to label him a “mental midget” and a failure based on one incident is absurd.
Mike Tyson, by the way, was the greatest heavyweight of his generation and one of the best fighters of all time, so he seemed to make the most out of his handicap.

He also has shown a severe inability to make weight, missing 3 times in his last 6 fights. That shows a lack of mental fortitude as well.
http://www.twitter.com/TB_Money
Among other things, Mike Tyson got convicted of rape and bit a man's ear off,
on the way to earning his label as a mental case. The case against Paul Daley now consists of him taking a single cheap shot (that mostly missed) and not being very good with a sauna. Not the greatest of parallels.

The analogy IS correct though. Both are mental midgets. Sorry you don’t like the comparison, but it’s obviously not meant as a direct parallel.
And if you really want to get into it with logic…have fun getting eaten alive.

No he isn’t. Repeating it doesn’t make it any more true.
In reality you know an exceptionally small amount about the man – certainly not enough to give a meaningful psychological analysis and it’s tremendously arrogant of you to think otherwise.
And if you really want to get into it with logic…have fun getting eaten alive.
Uh, how nauseatingly sycophantic.

Losing one’s temper is not evidence of stupidity, it’s evidence of poor impulse control. Smart people lose their cool all the time.

Okay, you got me, wrong choice of words. By the way, here’s Paul Daley’s last apology for what he did when he lost his cool. You know when that was? His last fight against Hazelett.
“It’s not very honorable to stand over a guy after you just knocked him out and shoot him in the head with a pretend gun. That’s just not cool. Then to wind his coach up a little bit by laughing, it’s not a cool thing to do but you know when you’re full of adrenaline you do stupid things.”
That was 4 months ago.

What’s your point? You’re desperately throwing shit at the wall hoping something will stick.
Doing a lame shotgun action after a fight and then apologising for it 30 seconds later is about as minor a transgression as it gets. Lot’s of fighters do stuff like that and no-one gives a shit.
You said something silly and couldn’t back it up – don’t be mad homie, we’ve all been there.
“Smart” is context dependent. If you’re a fighter, doing things that seriously could, or do, impair your career makes you stupid, or at least should under a reasonable definition of “stupid”. Regardless of how Daley would fair on a Stanford Binet, he has demonstrated low, you might say, “situational” intelligence — at least enough for me to agree that he is in fact “stupid”. Is he as “stupid” as Tyson (who I would actually guess is someone who, in the right environment, would have turned out to be very intelligent)? It’s tough to say but if he keeps it up he’ll get there!
by The Darkness on May 12, 2010 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions
That still doesn't follow
The entire argument for Paul Daley’s stupidity would seem to hinge on a single incident that occurred immediately after a superheated fight.
In interviews he is funny and clever, and he has demonstrated a canny knack for self-promotion that wouldn’t seem to be the product of a weak mind.
It is true that he committed an act that reflected poorly on him and set his career back significantly, but again, it was only a single act, committed in the heat of passion.
As I said elsewhere, smart people can lose their tempers just as easily as dummies, and I don’t think most of us would care to have our entire mental state determined based on our behavior during our worst-ever moment.

I hear you saying it, but I don’t see you supporting it. The only evidence that you’ve provided to support your argument that Paul Daley is a “mental midget” is that he a) took a cheap shot at the end of a heated fight and b) missed weight three times. That’s pretty shoddy evidence on which to base a psychological diagnosis.
As for being eaten alive, thanks for the warning. I’ll do my best to contain my terror.

I have supplied the evidence. You’re discounting it. That’s completely up to you. That doesn’t mean it’s not right there in front of you. And if you think calling someone a “mental midget” is going as far as making a “psychological analysis”….wow. I think I’m just gonna stop now.
http://www.twitter.com/TB_Money
So far in this thread, you’ve said that Paul Daley “lacks mental fortitude,” is a “mental midget,” and is “not exactly a scholar.”
I’d say that represents an analysis of Paul Daley’s psyche. It’s not a very good one, and it’s based on virtually nothing, but it’s an analysis all the same.

By that standard, Brett Farve's mental state is suspect...
which as I think of it, is probably the case.
Look, I don’t know Paul Daley anymore than anyone else on this board does. I’m just saying he really hasn’t exhibited the sort of public behavior that would lead a reasonable person to assume that he’s a “mental midget.”
He is funnier and more eloquent than most fighters in interviews and gives no indication of being any dumber than any other fighter. The fact that he made a catastrophically bad decision in the heat of the moment doesn’t speak to his intelligence one way or another, but rather to the fact that he has some anger management issues, which isn’t exactly a novel occurrence in fighters.

I disagree
Daley isn’t an idiot, if you listen to the guy talk this is abundantly clear, he just clearly lost it. If Kos was annoying the living daylights out of me, neutralizing my fight game, and whispering sweet nothings into my ear at the same time, I might be inclined to do something worse.
What Daley did was completely classless
but referring to a professional fighter as a “pussy” is a bit silly within itself don’t you think?
