Lucio Linhares and Caol Uno Released By the UFC

Following his loss to Yushin Okami at UFC Fight Night 21:
"I was following the plan we made for the fight but then I got cut over my eye and couldn’t see anything."
"I gave my best, didn’t give up and if I have to leave, I’ll do it with my head up. Two defeats in two fight, regardless the fact I was against two top contenders."
Full interview at tatame.com, confirmation of release by mmajunkie.com.
[UPDATE] by Nick Thomas - Caol Uno has also been released.

Sucks for Linhares..
He got thrown to the wolves against Paulharris and Okami…but I guess if you get stopped two fights in a row, thats what you can expect
No doubt you’re a fanboy who doesn’t realize SF is well-stocked at middleweight. Linhares wouldn’t even crack their top 15.
He’d probably slot in around 15th actually.

Or he makes great ones
to damage the reputation of a guy who was very successful in M-1 and also beat one of their up and coming stars in Karl Ammasou. Seems like the UFC was at least partially motivated by reminding the core that regionals are regionals, and UFC is the goddamn UFC.

36 years old and just coming off a beating like that, I could easily see him having retired after the fight and the UFC releasing him after the announcement.
He was given bad match ups, but that is the luck of the draw in the UFC, Paulo Thiago was given equally terrible match ups and has done quite well.
Caol Uno is also gone.

UFC is to Larry Fitzgerald as Strikeforce is to Plaxico Burress. One is the most dominant in their league, while the other shoots itself in the midst of progress.
WEC featherweight division, hopefully

Maybe Todd Harris knows it isn't Carl Uno.

That would be prefect. He has to be the smallest LW in the UFC. Tibeau looked 2+ classes bigger.
Uno still looks like he can matter, he just needs to drop the weight.
Tibau is an enormous lightweight.

Since March – Buentello, Gugerty, Marshall, Gormley, Schafer, Camoes, Markham, Oliveira, Torres, Emerson, Uno, Linhares and High have been removed from ufc.com
Which is weird, because Buentello said he wasn't cut.

The Great Purge of April 2010. Wow.
Sadly, I can understand most of them. Too bad about Uno, but he got stomped by a much bigger, faster, more physical opponent. Markham looked awful against Diaz AND missed weight AND got shown getting KO’d by Hardy about 20000 times in the last couple of months. I liked Linhares, but his game just wasn’t up to it; he was obviously expected to show he belonged in the middle of the division from the start, probably given his age, and he didn’t cut it. And I’m honestly surprised Emerson hung around as long as he did.

it's too bad about Ronnys Torres
he fought very well and has a great skill set. Just got a pair of very tough matchups.

no real suprises...
If anything i’m suprised they haven’t cut more…Brian Foster, Brian Stann, Igor Pokrajac, Bang Ludwig and Rodney Wallace are all probably lucky to still be on the UFC roster.
After 112 and 113, depending on how the fights go, we could see a handful more get their walking papers (Al-Turk or Jon Madsen, Paul Taylor or John Gunderson, Mike Guymon, John Salter, Jonathan Goulet[)
I have the feeling they wont cut Paul Taylor. He’s one of those fighters who always puts on a show, plus this is his first fight at 155. Then again, who knows…

Why cut Rodney Wallace? He's 1-1 in the UFC and is a prospect.

Wallace is 0-2 in the UFC with losses to Brian Stann and Jared Hamman, Neither of which are even top 20 LHW’s in the UFC
Crap you're right. I think he gets one more fight.

How about Keith Jardine?
I can’t see him lasting much longer, and if he does it’s to keep him away from Strikeforce.

Bummer for Linhares. The two fights he got were no jokes – I suspect quite a few others have gotten easier debuts into the UFC. Oh well, we might see him in the Finnish M-1 Challenge team a few times still – and his skills will sure come in handy in training the future Finnish mixed martial artists. It’s high time someone joins Tony Halme (R.I.P.) in the Octagon – Halme is still the only Finn to have fought in the UFC.

When was he released?
I don’t see anything online or in his twitter. I can’t believe they’d do that after one fight.

After seeing their performances live, I can't say I'm surprised.
Lynn Harris got beat up like the weakling at the beginning of a Kung-Fu flick and Uno just looked bad.
