Upcoming lightweight fights:
Frankie Edgar vs. B.J. Penn @ UFC 118 - It seems that everyone but Penn himself thought the Hawaii'an won the first bout. Penn gets a chance at redemption in Boston.
Kenny Florian vs. Gray Maynard @ UFC 118 - While Edgar and Penn settle their controversy, Florian and Maynard will determine the next challenger in line for the belt. The loser should get the loser of the main event.
Kurt Pellegrino vs. George Sotiropoulos @ UFC 116 - This is still officially under "rumored" status, but I really like this fight. Pellegrino and Sotiropoulos are both guys who have had some growing pains in their careers, but have put it together in their last few fights. A win for Pellegrino erases his losses to Joe Stevenson and Nate Diaz. The winner probably gets someone like Tyson Griffin (assuming he beats Evan Dunham at UFC 115) or Sean Sherk for a shot at the title.
Joe Stevenson vs. Takanori Gomi @ UFC on Versus 2 - Stevenson may have been a better choice for Gomi's first foray into the UFC. "Daddy" doesn't have the length or ground acumen that stymied Gomi in his fight with Kenny Florian. Neither guy should be considered threats for the division's elite, but a win is necessary to stay relevant.
Tyson Griffin vs. Evan Dunham @ UFC 115 - Tough fight for both guys. This is a big step up for Dunham. Griffin risks losing to a guy whose skills outweigh his name recognition. In the event of a win, Griffin probably gets the victor of Pellgrino/Sotiropoulos in a title eliminator. Zuffa should take a slower approach with Dunham who would probably get the winner of Stevenson/Gomi.

Almost that time of the month again?
RANKINGS! Get your minds out of the gutter.
Keep Firing, Assholes!
I wonder what Shane Carwin thinks about all of this?
Tyson
I’m hoping Tyson can use his improved striking with that wrestling and ridiculous cardio so he can get a title shot. I think he can definitly make a good run at the belt but lets see

Everyone thought BJ won the first fight, really? Because I didn’t.
I think Edgar will take it again in the rematch.
Florian will finish Maynard.
Pellegrino and Sotiro sucks because I really like both of those guys. I want Pellegrino to win but I think Sot takes it.
Stevenson vs Gomi is the battle of the irrelevant. Give it to either fighter and it won’t make much difference, although I’d rather see Gomi take it.
Dunham beats Griffin, or at least I’d like to think so.
Not everyone
Only people who watched the fight and didn’t score “swing and a miss” in Edgar’s favor.

Reminds me of the Sung Jung fight...
Not everyone, only people who watched the fight and didn’t score "swing and a miss" in Edgar’s Garcia’s favor.
Not everything has to solve anything...
it’s just another way at looking at a division

It’s a way of visually organizing each division based on the fighters’ performances over the past three years. Usually, the more vertical it is, the clearer the rankings. The more horizontal, the muddier the picture is.

Should J Lauzon be yellow with an arrow running from Stout and Florian to Joe showing he lost to them?
And shouldn’t there be two more lines from BJ to Sherk and Stevenson?

Good
Because I was looking at your paradox, wondering why I was too stupid to figure out what it had to do with my questions.
I just looked went "oh...there's Lauzon, that's it"

There should be a path from Florian to Lauzon, not sure what happened there.
The loss to Stout is looped out.
All your other examples are redundant lines that are removed for clarity. B.J. has a path to Stevenson through Florian, for example.

In the future, can you include the loops somewhere on the image themselves, just as a reference?
Thanks as always for your work.

That’s a good idea. I’ll try and remember that.

Like Maynard or not,
I am impressed that he has accomplished all that he has in less than three years in the UFC. Maynard/Florian in Boston is a huge Fight for them both. I will go with Maynard.
Fight Lines is an additional awesome feature undertaken by the BE Staff. Thanks for the effort!
