Savage Truth: Kris McCray's Inside Look Into SpikeTV's "The Ultimate Fighter" Episode 4
What’s up, everyone? Kris McCray from this season of SpikeTV’s "The Ultimate Fighter" here. I’m from Woodbridge, Virginia and I’m part of Team Punishment. I’m here to provide a weekly wrap-up from the show every week with inside info. This will be my only personal journal, so be sure to come to BloodyElbow.com every Thursday morning after the show airs.
Let's get started on last night's episode.
The Minority Report was just an off the cuff thing. It was what they showed. All of us just clicked naturally, anyway. We felt like looking out for each other made sense in a house full of animals.
The theme of this week was Kyacey Uscola not getting along with Jamie Yager. Some might say all of the bickering with Yager might’ve distracted Uscola before his fight, but I don’t think so. Uscola’s a veteran. I saw him able to focus during training. The birth of his child was motivating him, too. I also think all of the negative energy made everyone on Team Punishment a change of luck.
John Hackleman was right. Rich is a beast. I knew he was a tough match-up for anyone. Uscola had his hands full.
If you’re wondering, all of the beef between Yager and Uscola was real. The truth is I accidentally picked up Uscola’s hoodie first. It was by mistake when I was going to my room after being downstairs. I tried to tell Uscola once I realized what was going on. He seemed to understand where I was coming from, but by that time he and Yager already had words. The fuse was lit.
There were several people in the house who didn’t always get along with Yager. Does Yager sometime talk a little more than he should? Yeah, but he’s got a good heart. Tito Ortiz is right about Yager. He is defensive, but that’s because he’s had to be. He hasn’t had it easy. Keeping a guard up for so long has worked. If you know him well he’s the nicest guy. His way of doing things won’t let him be cool with everyone, but that’s life.
Dana White was right about Uscola’s strategy going into the fight. We all expected Rich to shoot, not strike. Uscola can strike, too, but his mind was elsewhere. The guy’s got heart and he proved it. I was amazed how well he was able to hold on and recover when Rich was pounding on him.
I don’t really know what to say to about the knee. Did it land? I thought so at the time. I saw some tape recently. I can say it definitely hit the chest or shoulder. I heard it land. I can’t say for certain how bad it landed or where, though.
I did feel bad about Rich’s injury, but Uscola was healthy enough to come back. We were hoping he’d get a second chance.
As you saw on the show Yager can do more than talk. He’s a dangerous fighter. To be honest, I was kind of surprised Team Liddell picked Yager to fight Blanchard. Yager’s very athletic and has a wrestling background. He’s strong and very explosive. He also shines in the stand-up. He’s the kind of fighter that rises to the occasion and a lot of people slept on him at first.
A lot people in the house said because he was 2-1 coming into the show he hadn’t seen anything in MMA. I personally thought it was a bad match-up for Blanchard. After Yager defended Blanchard’s takedown attempt, it got everyone’s attention. Then came the big right hand. Yager isn’t going to get along with everyone, but he proved he can fight. Best of all, his win definitely changed the team’s attitude. He helped break the spell. Team Punishment was very excited about taking control. .
That’s it for now. Be sure to support the people who support me. Make sure you’re paying attention to Ranger Up, Assassin Industries, Ultimate Warrior Challenge (UWC), Carnal Dammage and Team Lloyd Irvin/Gold Medal Grappling. You can also get at me on my website: KrisMcCray.com.
I’ll be back here on BloodyElbow.com next week. I’ll be on Twitter until then. Be Savage.

It looked like Rich was more hurt with the broken hand than the knee to the head. Although, I’m not sure it really connected. This is just my opinion but I think Rich was not badly hurt from the knee.
reminded me of cerrone vs. varner except uscola was making a comeback, and cerrone was going terminator all over varner

From the TUF website interview
“Savage” Kris McCray was born in Germany and describes his ethnic makeup as “Martin Luther King’s dream”.
He’s ‘’black, white, mexican’’ or something.
I believe Tiger Woods calls that
“Caublaxican”.

it’s about time BE got a TUF castmember to do a blog here. I never expected it though considering how much hate the show gets here.
So far I’ve been a fan of all the fights this season. There is no reason to believe the action doesn’t continue until the end.
the producers had to realize they were losing some fan base by putting on awful fights.. this season has been mostly fight build up, training, and the fights themselves which is all i want to see.

It’s hard to control the fights. Dana White and the Spike producers can’t do much about a bunch of sorry heavyweight fighters that are gassing out really quickly.
I have to completely agree though, THESE FIGHTS ARE REALLY GREAT SO FAR.

i was referring more to how they chose to produce it this season, which is much more fast paced and focuses more on general mma than on reality bs. i also noticed that there was no commercial break between the guys walking in the ring and touching gloves, which was pretty awesome- that may be because there were two fights

this season has the potential to be one of the best so far in terms of fights and talent.

I thought Blanchard had all the tools necessary to beat Yager. Charles was doing pretty good, he looked like he would be able to get the takedown, but he wimped out when he got hit by that punch from Yager. I have a feeling that a good wrestler will be able to take Yager out.
"If your going to come on then come on!" - Harold Howard
I thought Blanchard was a wrestler… but I was thinking Josh Bryant. Blanchard is a BJJ brown belt.
Another in a long line of strong prospects being churned out by American Top Team, Blanchard has rattled off four wins in his past five fights. The 24-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt put a significant feather in his cap when he defeated recent Bellator Fighting Championships signee "Judo" Jim Wallhead by unanimous decision two years ago. An Ultimate Warrior Challenge and King of the Cage veteran, Blanchard last competed in March 2009, when he outpointed Douglas Lima at a KOTC show in Atlanta.

Yeah it seemed like once Yager hit him he decided thefight was over
Of course I wouldn’t want to get hit by the guy either

it looks like he has pretty massive power and is very determined… plus uscola was completely wrong in that whole situation. he was wrong accusing jamie and shouldve manned up after realizing how wrong he was – between that and obviously trying to knee a downed opponent he came off as a huge douche

Uscola's TUF future revealed.
We were hoping he’d get a second chance.
That sounds like a spoiler.

I hear you but history has proven that it will be a long-long-long time before people are able to remove the color filters from the eyes.

Thank you for this! That knee completely missed the head (the last kneed hit the hand) and Uscola was illegally spiked on his head/neck.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" - Philippians 4:13
I thought since he landed on the back of his head it isn't a spike it looked like one
on the commercial they were showing but I’m pretty sure they have to land on the crown for it to be a spike. And even though it seemed like the knee didn’t make contact to the head, Uscola was definitely going for an illegal knee to the head and it caused the stoppage so I can’t argue with it.
by doonerthesooner on Apr 22, 2010 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions
I could be wrong, but I believe being thrown on your neck like that is illegal. Rich could have just as easily been given a warning, but Uscola kept fighting.
And Uscola claimed he thought Rich was up so I don’t really fault him for it so much. Whether he knew or not, the knee did not connect. He should have been given a warning about throwing the knees. Rich, IMO, was looking for a way out and he got it.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" - Philippians 4:13
Does the show take place in Nevada? If it then that move by Rich was illegal
The NSAC says that spiking an opponent on the head or neck is illegal.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" - Philippians 4:13
and people have explained that the rule means pile driver.
He was not spiked on his head or his neck, he was slammed on his back.
He was slammed on his neck, and had he not tucked his head, it would have spiked him on his neck.
Though Uscola is not in the piledriver, he gets put in an inverted postition where his legs are staright up in the air when he is thrown down and can be spiked. I’m pretty sure that can be considered illegal.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" - Philippians 4:13
I still can not clearly decide if it was not a knee to the head.

That spike looked illegal as hell. Just b/c he managed to tuck his head a bit as any rational human would, should not excuse it. At “game speed” the knee looked illegal. In the replay much more ambiguous. Watching the gifs, the knee may have hit the hand that was covering the head, which would probably still be illegal because the strike was directed at the head.

I'm pretty sure i've seen something like that slam before I just can't remeber what event
it was definitely UFC though
