Especially when the ref is RIGHT THERE standing above you and watching the action. The fact that Tan Dan sucks at stopping fights on time (as Herb Dean has improved, Mirg has definitely taken over as King of the Late Stoppage) doesn’t imply that Carwin did anything wrong.

1) I agree 9/10 times about that, except when the loser is obviously incapacitated, I think they should back off (e.g. Rich/Quarry).
2) Carwin always goes on about “sportsmanship”, so I’m going to hold him to the standard he sets for everyone else, and landing unanswered blows to the back of an unconscious opponent’s head isn’t sporting. I’m sure he’ll be quaking at the thought of annoying a college-age liberal arts major, anyway, so I’ve got that going for me…

Man, I’m getting kind of sick of Carwin being the Jiminy Cricket-style conscience of MMA. So far I’ve wanted him to hand Brock a pasting but I think I might be about to shift allegiances.
The whole brawl thing just makes me sad. It should have been Shields/Melendez/Nick’s greatest night in the cage, they could have held hands as the three Strikeforce champs before Shields jumps ship for the UFC. Instead Mayhem decided to ask for a title shot based on beating some nobody, and it all fell apart. :(

War Machine does represent the crappy side of MMA. You have fighters that are sportmen and athletes and then you have fighters that just grew up thugs and like to fight and he is the latter. Which is unfortunately the image MMA needs to push away from just a bit. It will always be around it all sorts of sports; but we shouldn’t be ok with that attitude.
