Alessio Sakara Wants Michael Bisping

Photo

"After the third victory in a row I want a little more and I think that a fight with Michael Bisping would be great. I respect him and it would be a war. I think mixed martial arts are so big in England today because of him, and I definitely want to do the same thing in Italy."

- Alessio Sakara talks to James Kimball of MMA Mania about the next step in his career.

This is honestly the first time a Sakara/Bisping fight has crossed my mind, but you put that on a European show and there's a built in storyline to it, in addition to the fact that it should be quite a fun fight to watch.  For all the hate Bisping gets it isn't as though he has many boring fights, and Sakara certainly isn't one to put on a snoozer.

Mark me down as totally in favor of this fight.

Sakara also had some interesting things to say about the weight cut for his last fight and seems to want people to not discredit his role in making James Irvin look so bad as a weight cut is hard on everyone.

Yeah I can dig it.

Italy vs. England, the pride of two countries, etc… It would be a fun fight for sure.

Absolutely no way...

the UFC sets this one up. They are trying to resurrect Bisping 4.0 with his Dan Miller fight.

by William Wilson on Apr 2, 2010 2:09 PM EDT reply actions

Dan Miller is more likely to beat him than Alessio Sakara. Miller is pretty good no matter where the fight goes and doesn’t offer Bisping a ‘safe zone’ should he get in trouble. Sakara is great standing, but would get mauled by Bisping on the ground should he decide to take the fight there.

by Steve4192 on Apr 2, 2010 2:12 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm still not sold on Miller being well-rounded

He got outstruck by Maia for crying out loud. I think on the feet would definitely be a safe zone for Bisping against Miller.

by Scott Haber on Apr 2, 2010 2:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah...

Miller really disappointed in that fight. I’m sure Dana & co. saw that fight and went, “Yes! Finally someone we can feed to Bisping to rebuild him again.”

by William Wilson on Apr 2, 2010 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t discredit Maia’s role in that, though. Obviously he had Miller so scared of going to the ground that Maia felt pretty free to swing at him. Maia adjusted to Miller but Miller didn’t adjust back.

Bisping vs Miller is far from a give me W for Bisping.

by Shocbomb on Apr 2, 2010 3:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Miller had to worry about being taken down more than normal.

I like Bisping vs Miller

Sakara hasnt earned it yet.

Hasn’t earned it? The dudes fought in the UFC for 5 years now, yeah mixed results but he’s earned plenty enough to fight Bisping.

I dont see him as in the same class as Bisping

I think if you would say Bisping is a b level mw than sakara is a c level. It’s a big jump in competetion for him.

If Russia attacked Turkey from the rear, Do you think Greece would help?

by whardiek on Apr 4, 2010 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm definitely down for that fight

Sakara’s footwork and handspeed will keep Bisping from trying to implement a jab and jog strategy. Plus, his weak chin is always a tempting reason to stand in the pocket with him.

I definitely think we could see Bisping go with a much more aggressive strategy than we have seen out of him recently.

by Steve4192 on Apr 2, 2010 2:10 PM EDT reply actions

Bisping would most likely take this one to the ground pretty fast and donkey kong Sakara.

That's why it makes sense

They’re not exposing Bisping, who is the bigger star, to too much risk – and if Sakara does wins they have a new star from a new country. Sakara is pretty recognizable since he’s had so many fights in the UFC already so a big win would catapult him pretty quickly

by Disco1Stu on Apr 2, 2010 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Yep. But I’d still like to see this fight. I like that Sakara has built up some confidence and is now looking for tougher guys.

Yeah, this would be the equivalent of Bisping/Kang

Sakara would very quickly find himself on his back, and TKO’d soon after.

by Razzel on Apr 2, 2010 2:14 PM EDT reply actions

I’m still shaking my head over that fight. Kang knocked him down and had him mounted in the first, then just folded in the second. Unbelievable.

by AJB on Apr 2, 2010 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

As his inconsistent career has shown, Kang is his own worst enemy. He has all the tools and physical attributes to become a top MW but his mental game always holds him back. Its really quite sad, really.

I'd rather see Sakara-Rivera

and have the Miller-Bisping fight go ahead as planned.

by Scott Haber on Apr 2, 2010 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

That’s not a bad call, I’m not sold on Sakara

I was thinking this would be good too.

by HarmlessNinja on Apr 2, 2010 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Since Bisping is already signed to face Dan Miller, I say put Alessio Sakara against Jorge Rivera and have the winners face off. Nice little MW tourney, and the winner emerges as a fringe contender.

Here's how you do it

Sakara is currently riding a 3 fight win streak which includes a former title contender. A win over Wand puts him into the mix. Wand just dominated Bisping and a win over Sakara puts him at the top of the 185 latter.

by Matthew Roth on Apr 2, 2010 5:56 PM EDT up reply actions

isnt fighting wand a big leap in competetion for Sakara?

Sakara in my eyes doesnt look ready to swim in the deep water yet. I agree, he is starting to make a climb. I would like to see him fight Jorge Rivera, Cote, Belcher, Quarry or Dollaway first.

I always forget Bisping is a MW

I just had a funny thought. Bisping standing across the cage from Anderson, making his 15th title defense. Oh man that shit would be hilarious.

by doonerthesooner on Apr 2, 2010 2:46 PM EDT reply actions

That shit would be short.

Bisping would like to make it last and dance around a bit, but since he lacks the power of Cote or the submission game of Leites, Anderson would charge straight on and destroy him.

I think james Irvin destroys Sakara if he wasnt so drained. Didnt he knock him down so easily?

Sakara will never be top food chain his biggest assest is also his biggest problem. Whenever he runs into a guy with big power hes screwed.

by p123 on Apr 3, 2010 5:12 PM EDT reply actions

Sakara is a good fighter

If anything Irving is overrated because of his highlight real finishes. Kinda like in basketball a guy with some great dunks but someone who’s not a real game changer.
