Report: Winner of Josh Koscheck vs Paul Daley Will Coach The Ultimate Fighter 12 Against Georges St. Pierre
MiddleEasy has some sad news for those still salivating for an Anderson Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre super-fight:
Today, I received an email from someone who trains in Team Roughhouse. Apparently over the weekend, Joe Silva called Paul Daley to let him know that the winner of his upcoming UFC 113 bout with Josh Koscheck will be the new coach on The Ultimate Fighter Season 12 with Georges St. Pierre coaching the opposite team. You're probably already putting the pieces together. Whoever is Georges St. Pierre's rival coach on TUF 12 will eventually face GSP at the end of the show and it will be for the UFC Welterweight title.
This confirms earlier rumors swirling from Dana White's statements a few weeks ago:
"I'm working on something right now that I can't talk to you guys about because I don't have it done yet," White said of the Koscheck-Daley fight, which takes place May 8 at UFC 113 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. "But it has to do with that fight, so we'll see what happens."
I have to admit, the winner of Koscheck vs Daley makes a very good case for a title shot, but I'm not a big fan of holding-up a title for several months so they can film and televise a reality show. Plus, having sniffed the idea of a possible dream match up between Silva and St. Pierre has already dulled my appetite in seeing GSP fight another welterweight contender.

Did you read the post? Winner of Kos/Daley gets GSP. Shields will have to wait, which is fine. Give him Fitch and the winner of that gets the shot next after Kos/Daley.

Just responding to ubernoober’s suggestion of Shields/GSP first. The fact they haven’t signed him makes it even more absurd.

as far as shields….. I agree don’t put the cart in front of the horse and all that stuff, right? but I really hope the ufc signs him, if it is possible.
daley v. koscheck, I got Daley by ko. Daley would be great on T.U.F.
Team Roughhouse is invading mma, they got some up & comers on that team.
Well that shits all over my Jake Shields fanpost. Fuck this idea.

your idea is still possible.
Jake still has to wait out, until his contract expires before he can negotiate with the UFC. It could take a few months, and a few more to get him signed and scheduled to fight (possibly against the winner of this match up)..
If he doesn’t get an immediate shot, fights against Swick, Fitch, and Thiago could be good too. (If he doesn’t get a shot, I prefer him vs Paulo Thiago, for the next title shot.)

After watch Shields beat Hendo, I don't know if that is true.
Food for thought. If Hendo was the number 2 MW and Shields beat him…
and…
GSP is still considered better than Shields, does that prove that GSP is actually good enough to compete with top MW’s?
Did you read what I wrote?
I said if SHIELDS didn’t get an immediate title shot, I would see him fight Thiago (assuming he wins his next fight as impressively as he did) for a shot at GSP.
That’s what I prefer. If Thiago beats Shields, only then would he get a title shot. If you beat Kos, Swick, Volkmann, and Shields, you deserve a shot.

Yep
I was hoping for Shields If it wasn’t AS. If Daley wins and they sign Shields it’s going to be hard to justify making him wait.

The winner of Kos/Daley will most likely coach against Diego Sanchez. Nobody expected Shields to beat Hendo. GSP will be fighting Shields unless his Dad turns into a weasel which doesnt seem likely.

1) I think Daley himself would be a terrible coach, but Team Rough House could be alright.
2) I’m more inclined to believe logic’s comment in an earlier post that the winner would coach TUF against Sanchez, simply because in recent seasons it seems they’ve been moving away from holding up the title with the reality show. Plus that motherfucker knows what’s up, and ME has never struck me as a legit news site.

Why do they keep putting champions on the show?? If they want to put coaches on there that would carry the hype of title implications why not put the 2 top contenders with tv personalities? That way two separate title fights can be going since the champ could defend during the airing of the season and then, if still holding the belt, defend against winner of tuf coaches.
Isn’t that what happened during tuf 4? In a way, I realize different circumstances but still- even though dudes thought they were fighting to meet franklin in the oct, lutter ended up with silva instead. I think gsp defended during the season as well

GSP was just out for about 8 months with an injury, and now he will be out for another 8 while the show tapes and Airs. This sucks. I don’t disagree that the winner of Kos/Daley deserves a title shot, but I just don’t think we should have to wait this long. Plus if UFC signs Shields it will change the whole dynamic.
It will be another 3-4 months before they have Shields signed, if they do. Then he’d have to get ready for the fight, so you’re talking 6-8 months until GSP would be able to fight Shields anyways. Might as well do this and then Shields can fight the Fitch-Alves winner or just wait for the GSP v Kos/Daley winner.
by IWillPartyHard on Apr 19, 2010 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions
If I’m Shields, I make my signing with the UFC contingent on getting an immediate title shot. I think he has that kind of leverage right away. Of course, if CBS has really pulled the plug, maybe Strikeforce won’t even try to keep him. In which case he’s stuck with whatever they offer him.
by John Nash on Apr 20, 2010 2:01 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions
The winner of Kos/Daley DOESN'T deserve a title shot.
Any more than Hardy did.

Maybe I'm old fashioned
But I’d like to see Sheilds sign with the promotion before he gets his title shot.
In the meantime, I don’t understand how people are getting exercised about the Daley-Kos winner getting a shot. I suppose you could argue that Fitch deserves it (though I think GSP-Fitch II will be miserable), but Kos and Daley are both legitimate top 10 guys now. The winner will get a significant bump and be a great opponent for GSP.
Also, Daley is not Hardy. They may train together and they may be pals, but Semtex is a much more dangerous striker, and will be a threat to anyone he faces at WW.
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
by Dave Strummer on Apr 20, 2010 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions
he is a much more dangerous striker, but his ground game is much more lacking than Hardy’s. Semtex is purely one-dimensional, Hardy can actually hang with most guys (not named GSP) on the ground
That's a fair assessment
But I think a truly dominant striker is more of a threat to GSP than a good striker with a serviceable ground game. GSP will still be an 8-1 favorite, but Daley at least presents a real threat of a one punch KO.

GSP VS DALEY!
If Daley beats Koscheck and shows some Takedown defense this could be interesting.
Daley needs to work hard on his takedown defense.
Anderson VS GSP can wait till 2011.
People's Light Heavyweight Champion
Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua
you don’t get it. Daley can not in 6 months do enough sprawling to be prepared for Kos or GSPs takedowns. Kos has been wrestling since he was like 5, GSP is a freak; it ain’t gonna happen. Daley is one-dimeonsional, believe he will get steamrolled by Koscheck
Kos thinks he's a puncher now.
He won’t go for takedowns unless he gets rattled.
http://www.vancouversun.com/mma
it didn’t take him getting rattled (unless you count the phantom eye-poke as ‘rattlled’) before he started shooting on Rumble Johnson. Kos may like to think he’s a puncher, but he’s not dumb, and he hasn’t fought strikers like Rumble and Daley until now. The fact he immediately stated taking down Rumble at the start of round 2 makes me think he’s realized what he needs to do against guys like that and will not even bother to stand with Daley for one round
Phantom eye poke???
he clearly dragged his fingers across Koscheck’s eyes……
by LeeroyJenkin$ on Apr 20, 2010 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
GSP doesn’t need TUF, and more importantly I don’t need him on TUF. Locking up champions is lame. I’d much rather the whole Koscheck/Daley opposite Diego Sanchez scenario that Logic put forth. I guess that’d only happen if Diego gets past Hathaway tho.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
I think this is a great idea. Give GSP some rest.....
I mean do we REALLY want to see GSP smashing WW’s every 3 months? 2 times a year is fine with me, + a super fight anytime it comes along w/ whoever. The Anderson fight will happen. Let this Daley/Kos thing shake out, the show should be fun to watch with either of those guys, and we can watch GSP fight on NYE in great shape vs a hungry contender. Cause the winner of this fight is legit at 170. They’d be top 3 or 4 no question at all.
Personally, I do want to see him smashing WW's every 3 months.
He’s building a legacy. An empire. He’s the late 90’s Yankees.
Sitting him for 8 months just takes him away from what he should be doing – demonstrating his utter dominance.
http://www.vancouversun.com/mma
man, fuck the 90’s Yankees, or any Yankees for that matter. GSP is building his empire on hard work, elbow grease, and ballsweat. Yankees just buy up players. I ain’t even a GSP fan, but please don’t compare him to the fucking Yankees. GSP competes on an even playing field, the Yankees don’t, which is why baseball is retarded
lmao
I can relate, but like you everytime I have that feeling I watch a boring ass baseball game, then a football game and perhaps a basketball game and that reminds me of how even a weird-ass fight like Anderson’s last is still a better product than what other sports put on.

I’d much much MUCH rather see this than the Anderson Silva fight.
I also think it’s funny that so many people are complaining about the belts being tied up, but seem to want the Anderson-GSP fight which would tie up one division indefinitely.

And yes, good point about a possible Silva/GSP match holding up 2 division titles, not just 1.
the only reason it'd be exciting
is that i’d get to watch GSP get steamrolled in one round.

That means 12 months of waiting to watch:
a) Perform a takedown festival on Daley, or
b) Beat a guy that he’s already dominated.
What a terrible gameplan by the UFC. I honestly thought they’d be able to milk their golden goose a little bit better than this. Underwhelmed doesn’t begin to describe my thoughts on this.

Im cool with this. Koscheck and Daley are 2 contenders that i think can threaten GSP for the belt. Kos had a chance once before but trust me he’s a much better fighter this time around, and Daley has some of the best hands in MMA but i see him being lightyears away from GSP and his wrestling. An if GSP win’s he has OFFICIALLY Cleaned house at 170 and will have no choice but to either fight Silva or move up to 185 permanently.

Of title holders on tuf. To me the title fight is enough to sell any ppv, and the TUF fiascos should be saved for building feuds that will sell a ppv. GSP may get ratings on TV, but it really sucks holding up the title until December now when he easily can fit another fight in this summer. Boo!!!

I made a fan post about this the other day and have been saying this for a long time.
GSP, they want him as a TUF coach, he has never had his own team, he is a mega star and a huge draw.
Now what I said was do a US vs Canada, GSP vs Jake Shields, should they sign him before the summer, which is when filming would take place.
Now they could still do that, Canada vs US or UK, depending on who wins, but lets be honest, Daley has big power and could easily knock GSP out, but after what we saw him do to Hardy, and we all know Daley isnt great on the ground, GSP would just take him down over and over again, plus back to back Brits from the same camp getting title shots?
Kos is the better fit, he is the better wrestler, and has power and decent striking. He is a TUF vet and is a person many dont like, he is a character.
GSP vs Kos, it could be Canada vs US, team Jackson vs AKA. I think it would be good.
Now I think it would have worked great with SHields, getting him out there and hyped up, but it could work just as well with Kos and GSP.
Now will they do the country vs country, I dont see them doing Canada vs UK, you dont want to leave out the US, so if Kos wins, I could see them doing that, it would be big in Canada, getting prospects to hopefully turn into stars, they would really follow GSP and the team, and even the US, people could have interest in a rivalry with Canada.
So I like the idea. But I know people will bitch about holding GSP out of action till Dec.
But thnk about this.
The end of the year card in Dec, it could feature Brock/Carwin vs Cain for the HW title and GSP vs Kos/Daley for the WW title.
Talk about a NYE stacked card.
Ouch
I love Middle Easy, but they kind of threw their boy from Team Roughhouse under the bus there. I know for a fact that fighters have lost some pretty big opportunities over less egregious leaks than that. At least make people guess whose camp is leaking shit…..
by Jonathan Snowden on Apr 20, 2010 9:24 AM EDT reply actions
This is crap!!!!
I hate this idea. I hate that we are putting the welterweight division on hold while they film and air another season of TUF. And I hate that if Daley wins, we will have to wait through all the TUF build-up to see another one-sided wrestling domination of a Brit.
And I really hate what this means for other top contenders. To me, Fitch deserves his rematch more than either Kos or Daley deserve a shot. He is currently ranked #2, 20-1 since 2002, and since losing to GSP, he beat Paulo Thiago (who holds a win over Kos) and anyone else put in front of him. He agreed to face off with Alves who had to pull out and beat a short notice replacement. Not to mention he is rumored to face off with Alves again in June…why should he bother? Daley will get a shot by beating unranked, lesser skilled opponents and then one win over Kos and it is his. By the time TUF is done, Shields will probably be in the mix and the UFC will want to give him a shot before he loses to anyone else so Fitch is left out of the mix completely.
i’m not a big fan of watching GSP vs Hardy version deux either.
swapping out semi-identical styled british fighters after watching a season of smacktalk will only be like a more irritating version of watching Hardy get laid on by GSP. i think Daley’s even MORE dangerous on the feet than Hardy….no way GSP will stand with him for more than 10 seconds each round if he can help it.
