Anderson Silva and Demian Maia Meet Outside the Ring
This Fan Post was promoted to the front page by Nick Thomas.
Thanks to frozzen for letting me know about this interview that took place on Sunday, April 18th. Anderson Silva and Demian Maia were guests on a popular Brazilian program called "Domingão do Faustão", where they shared some of their thoughts in their fight and MMA in general.
More after the jump.
No publicity is bad publicity, truth of the matter is that this particular fight has gotten more attention than any other in the history of MMA in Brazil, we can argue whether it's bad or good, I say it's good. Check out the video after the jump, the first video is all Anderson Silva, Demian appears in the beginning of the second video, and on the third they are walking out of stage after the interview (notice no eye contact between the two). Make sure to turn on your captions for the subtitles in the first two videos.

Granted, there were no fireworks, but Demian still feels he was disrespected. He said something like “..well, the fight fans saw what happened, I don’t have to say anything more..”
yeah
he was able to poke Anderson in a few of his answers without calling him out.

"When i get in there, in his face ,pressin the action,I'm RUFF NECKIN'EM,I'm throwin him around,I'm punchin him,hes punchin me, I'm eatin his shots and I'm Blastin him back in the face he's not goin to be able to handle it ." - Chris Leben on how his fight with Anderson Silva is gonna go.

tell you the truth
I was a bit disappointed in the interview, not much new was brought to the table. Anderson was basically saying he did what he did as a form of tactics, Maia was talking about how idols need lead by example, and besides that both talked about how MMA is viewed in Brazil and how it’s different in other countries. Anderson also talked about his personal life, when he started training and also about the Nog brothers. Very basic interview, but I don’t think anything new was mentioned.
But overall I think it’s a good read/view, but nothing new so don’t expect to see something you didn’t already know.

Silva usually seems guarded. I don’t expect him to reveal anything more or new than what he already has. And I think he feels he doesn’t have to explain himself fully which I can understand but eventually he’ll realize that the media wants everything from you.
Who.
What.
Where.
Why, Why, Why
When
and How.
And being more forthcoming will help him out even more in the long run.

I agree, he could do many things differently, but I personally like his take as it is different than most fighters, I like having different people act different so it’s not all the same

thanks orcus
I figured it was a tactic. Its like a catcher asking the batter in baseball "do you wanna see naked pictures of your girlfriend? ".

I wish Anderson would make an attempt to communicate to his non Brazilian fans in this manner. His personality really shines here and if he were to reach out and attempt to share his thoughts with Ed it would go a long way. I think it’s a shame that he isn’t doing so.
The more you drive, the less intelligent you are.
I was expecting Anderson to answer in English with Soares giving the Portuguese translation;)
Another great post, Orcus.

I think for you to be considered an idol you have to be an idol at all times, you are an example to people and an example with the attitudes that you chose to show. – Demian Maia
I’m not an expert in psychology or anything like that, but from my perspective, it really does seem something went on in that cage that Demian is still upset about, and rightly so. Silva can say all he wants, but his actions matter, and what I saw in the cage last week wasn’t respect from Silva. Good on Demian to get in a few digs like that. He’s fast becoming one of my favorite fighters. The more I see Silva grinning from ear to ear, the more it bothers me.

Silva also said he meant no disrespect by his actions in the cage...
Lol… He came accross as more political than Sonnen.
I have no problem with him being a cocky fighter, but if you are gonna be cocky I think you have to own it. Cocky actions followed by humble talk just seems weird to me.
Thank you. That’s exactly what I’ve been saying. Don’t do what Silva did in the cage and then after the fight bow on both knees to Maia. I think he would be more loved by the fans if he just owned the heel role. I would like to see him play the Ali role where he talks about how he’s the greatest and can’t be touched, because that’s how he acts in the cage.

don't watch this program
so I’m not familiar with the personnel, but I think they both work for the show, the audience passes them the questions and they ask them.

Two words
Renata Frison.
Two other words: Mulher Melao.
Two more related words that will unfortunately find their way into your YouTube searches: MC Frank.
CREUUUUUUUUUU~
Ehh
For some reason Frison/Melao (I’m getting this right… right?) comes off as “more” real. Maybe I’m already used to seeing tall, leggy, thin chicks, and I haven’t seen Frison’s “some meat on them bones” body type in a while.
Note re: MC Frank
“CREU” is the absolutely wrong fucking music to be accompanying the Mulhers.
Again
Another mark in Melao’s favor. I dunno, maybe Melancia seems too “seen this before” to me? For some reason in my mind whenever I think of her I keep seeing former UFC ring girl Edith LaBelle in the mind’s eye, whereas there’s no mistaking Melao…
This on the other hand… amusing, just for being set in a BJJ gym.
Damn, Maia looks great. At first I thought this was a pre fight appearance on both their parts.

Also, second vid, 3:48. HOTTTT DAAAAAMN!!!!! :)

Anderson.........
Seems so fake to me now. Maia is pure class IMO even though I talked a little trash lol. Anderson and Respect don’t even belong in the same sentence.
I can't get
over the extremely hot chicks that asked the two questions. I might be moving soon! Wow!
Shut up, Tito.

Didn’t really learn anything too new by the interviews; but still cool to see them and the attention they get at home. (Some hot girls in there too)
