Fighters and Officials React to Post Fight Strikeforce Brawl
If you were watching Strikeforce: Nashville last night on CBS, you got to see 4 fights. Three of them were title fights and one of them was a gang style beatdown of Jason "Mayhem" Miller by the Cesar Gracie camp after Miller intruded in Jake Shields' post fight interview asking for a rematch.
Shields shoved Miller, and then Nate Diaz, Nick Diaz and Gilbert Melendez jumped him and started throwing punches and kicks as Strikeforce officials desperately tried to break it up.....on national television. While some may have found it entertaining (I drunkenly cheered when it happened). Now that I'm seeing things a little clearer, this is a pretty big black eye for MMA.
Many fighters, officials and journalists weren't afraid to share their opinion on twitter right after it happened:

arielhelwani I hope that did not just signal the end of MMA on CBS
MMA Legend Pat Milletich
patmiletich thats why you only let 2 cornermen in the ring after a fight. completely retarded
Rolles Gracie
RollesGracie MAYHEM MILLER IS A BIG CLOWN!!!! I Enjoyed watching him getting his ass kicked. Thanks for DVR so I can watch it a few more times.
RollesGracie That was bad 4 the sport. Couldn't Miller wait 2 min 2 ask 4 that rematch? U get in another man's face like that it's gonna be a fight!
UFC President Dana White

Jason "The Instigator" Miller
mayhemmiller Whoops.
Ben Saunders
bensaundersUFC WOW... that was awesome and complete crap at the same time. If it wasn't gonna cause a potential negative impact on our sport. I would say that had to be the funniest thing I have ever seen. Mayhem u took a beating to entertain millions. My hat is off to u my friend. Charley Chaplin comedy at it's finest. Physical violence gives us some of the best laughter. Specially when it's uncalled for. Hahahaha
Miguel Torres
MiguelTorresMMA Oh, the Diaz bros are gangster as shit. Pride rules live. Mayhem should be the victim on "Bully Beatdown" show.
MiguelTorresMMA I'm not condoning jumpin someone. Its just funny television. I been jumped before, not funny on receiving end. But still.
Jamie Varner
jamievarner Wow bye bye CBS for sure
Urijah Faber
urijahfaber Man that end of strikeforce sucked. Wish they coulda switched the camera. & the commentator said "sometimes this happens in MMA" not very often
Shane Carwin
ShaneCarwin from what I read those guys should be ashamed of themselves. This is not a barn yard brawl. These actions are not needed in this sport!
ShaneCarwin and someone asked for a rematch? This is not crips vs bloods it is a sport which requires SPORTSMANSHIP. Seems basic
Brawl participant Gilbert Melendez
GilbertMelendez I apologize to all the MMA fans. My intentions were not to fight but to let Shields enjoy his moment. I think @mayhemmiller is a cool guy.
Jon Koppenhaver
WarMachine170 Why do people think athletes have to be ROLE MODELS? WHy can't they just be good athletes and get paid to do a job they love? Leave us ALONE
Brian Stann
BrianStann Strikeforce brawl was an insult to the entire sport of MMA, Nick Diaz should be stripped of his belt, Mayhem suspended...

People voted for assault charges? wtf. Mayhem isn’t a soccer mom on her way to the store. He knew what the reaction from the Gracie camp would be. He took a chance to get into the public eye and paid for it. He isn’t claiming to be a victim.
Apparently you missed Forrest Griffin's...
PSA on Assault Charges.

Agreed regarding assault charges.
That is entirely up to Mayhem and should not be a factor in what Strikeforce, CBS, and the athletic commisssion decide to do about the brawl. From Strikeforce’s point of view, a suspension would be counterproductive, as it would result in them losing three of their champions for an extended period. I’d rather see them hit these guys where it hurts … in their wallets.
Mayhem
Looked like he was not hurt in the post-brawl interview they posted on this site. I doubt he presses charges.

to be honest
I only put the assault charges choice in there because Brookhouse made an article saying they should. Wanted to see who agreed.

I voted for assault charges.
When you kick a guy in the head when he’s being held down by six of your buddies, you need to go to the clink for a while and learn a trade.

Suspended for one year… but only from being corner men. As in they can’t get near the cage during a fight unless they are in the fight.
Just BE.
Honestly, if I were Strikeforce, I would just ban them all from the cage permanently. If they aren’t fighting, they aren’t allowed in … PERIOD.
Exactly.
No more corner licenses for those guys and never let them in the cage again unless they are wearing a cup and have their hands wrapped.
Oooh. Harsh.
You guys sit in front row and watch. No holding the icebag for you.

Some thing to keep in mind is that fighting is a criminal offence in all states. There are regulations in place in most states that allow an exception for fights that are supervised by an AC. The fights on the card meet that criteria and the brawl doesn’t. That makes criminal charges a possibility. Will that happen? I doubt it. Millar won’t press charges but a politician may ask the police to investigate. There seems to be lots of evidence.
My guess though is that most every thing will be handled by the AC. The whole reputation of the sport thing comes into play here as well as safety of the officials etc. In the end though these things are almost always handled via small fines and very short suspensions in other sports so I expect the same here.
Personally I’d sort it out legally with criminal charges. You can’t really fine all of them, some of them don’t even work for Strikeforce. You can’t really suspend them except in that state. But just like punks anywhere else in the world; if they don’t like someone running their mouth or challenging their buddy, that doesn’t allow you to beat them up. So those punks should have charges filed against them just like anyone else that was involved in a brawl like that anywhere else.
My blah blah blah

Hmmm
Say a security video from a mall pops up on Youtube. It shows one guy saying something to another who reacts by pushing him. Suddenly 3-5 guys jump in and beatdown the first guy for asking the question. If the 3-5 guys can be positively identified, its my understanding that authorities have the right to press assault and battery charges regardless of whether the victim presses charges or not, under the premise of public safety. In the case of a mall video, charges would definitely be pressed. Should it be any different for this case? Just a thought.

“Best comment has to be from War Machine. How that guy is still around is amazing. He is having a longer a lasting effect then Junie Browning.”
War Machine: Fighter, Porn Actor, Philosopher. Honestly, is there anything this man can’t do! He’s a true role model for kids and all those who aspire to get arrested for rioting or get paid to have sex on camera.
Also we should probably listen to him on this subject because he may be the only person involved in more riots and street fights than a Diaz Brother.
