Chael Sonnen, speaking to Mauro Ranallo on the Fight Show about Anderson Silva.. Who knows how the fight will be, but the build to the fight will be tremendous. Behind all the bravado, Sonnen has to know how dangerous this fight is, but if he finds a way to pull it off he could become the most popular fighter in the UFC.
Can Sonnen steal one of the first 3 rounds and then grind out 4 and 5? That has to be the strategy.

Yes, Dana announced the fight. Sonnen is going to let loose some pretty crazy smack talk for the next couple months. I think it is going to be rather entertaining waiting for this fight to happen. I don’t think he will but I will be rooting for Sonnen to win or get KO’d in spectacular Matrix fashion.

I couldn’t agree more… reading quotes like this from Chael: “This isn’t like some exciting thing to get to fight him, it’s just truly an annoyance, and I’m looking forward to it being over with just so I can move on and be done with the jerk.”
Sonnen is a decision machine 14 of his 24 wins… some 60% of Chael’s loses come from subs, 20% from TKOs… Sonnen’s wins (other than decisions 58%) come from TKOs 29%…
He will neither sub nor TKO AS… Chael’s most exciting moments concerning this fight will come from what he says.. not from what he will be able to do vs. AS…. and from quotes like the one above… Chael’s comments will be found as wanting as his performance vs. AS.

I must admit that Sonnen's doing what he needs to be doing
I am not a fan of Chael Sonnen, but I do feel that what he is and has been doing to hype this fight is very smart. Being a professional wrestling fan as well as an MMA fan, I take what Sonnen says with a grain of salt, but it is entertaining and funny at times. It is such a good time for him to be trash talking because many MMA fans just do not like Anderson Silva right now, and many are hoping to see Sonnen beat Anderson Silva up. I’m still going to root for Silva though.
Chael sonnen has no chance — he’s as quick as a tortoise. The good side of this fight is that we will definitely get to see Anderson knock someone out — no way Chael is gonna flop to his back. Still, I’d rather, see Anderson fight someone that has a chance at beating him. Marquardt, Belfort, someone from 205, all have better chances of winning.

Still, please don’t make this a main event.
I don’t get why it matters if it is a main event or co main event or even a prelim. We will all be watching it on the same night regardless I don’t see how that matters. Is it just to make it seem like Silva is being punished? What the fuck do I care I just want to see him fight. Maybe I just don’t get it, I don’t understand?
My reasoning is because if I spent $45 of my money on a fight card, I don’t want it to end with a 25 minute dance off. The UFC was not too bright putting Silva ahead of a proven draw like BJ on the 112 card.

Hey anyway we can help Chael in his quest to shit talk the crap out of Silva. He is probably one of the only few opponents out there that have good enough shit talk and actually have the balls to piss off the Spider.
Seeing as how shittalk is not my area of expertise perhaps we can help him with some good one liners or just good overall shittalk that perhaps Chael somehow can incorporate into his routine.. Any suggestions? This forum is packed full of guys with good one liners would love to see some here.

knowing the kind of fighter sonnen is and how much anderson hates being "disrespected"
i think it’s a stretch to think anderson will give sonnen the honor of a quick end. i expect he’ll try to clown sonnen even worse than he did maia. i see absolutely no difference between what sonnen will be bringing to the table that leites and maia didn’t in terms of actually managing to get through anderson’s punches to get their hands on him to get him to the ground. he’ll get picked apart from the outside, he’ll get clowned and anderson will be very vocal about letting him know he doesn’t belong in there. if anderson really does get “cut” he’ll get paid millions to go to strikeforce for an immediate fight with fedor. i don’t possibly see how dana’s threat means anything to anderson.

i’m sure sonnen will try to fight, the same way maia did, but anderson will shut him down, like anderson does to limited strikers. unless sonnen turns into a top striker in very short time i doubt he’ll ever get his hands on anderson.
I know a lot of people will disagree with this, but Chael Sonnen is SO BAD AT SMACK TALKING. At least when Murrr does it, it’s somewhat believable sometimes. Kos is great at it. Sonnen’s just terrible. Most of what he says makes no sense. The stuff that does is so far beyond the realm of believability that it’s just lame. This doesn’t build the fight for me at all, it’s just weak.

I can’t honestly say that he’s anything but a good smack talker. More intelligent than most of the shittalkers too. And more verbose, though some would say garrulous.

I never liked Sonnen, I never liked the 1 dimensional fighters period but goddamn, after Silva’s last fiasco I will be cheering Sonnen all the way. Silva needs to spend 5 rounds on his back eating hellbows for the 3 fights he made me waste $60 on.

Silva has been putting on one horrible performance after another at MW and offering to fight in almost any other possible weight class, even destroying fighters in those weight classes when given the opportunity, all because……
He wants to avoid Chael Sonnen. He wants superfights not for the challenge, but because if he keeps fighting at MW he will have to go up against Chael.

Chael reminds me of Dan Hardy. Not in the technical aspect, but in his shet talking. Only difference is that he’s erring put away come fight night, and he’ll still talk shet.

All that being said, AS is best P4P fighter IMHO
You notice he didn’t critique his game or his skills. Sonnen is the perfect sacrificial lamb for AS before a showdown with GSP. The lead up to this fight with Sonnen will be very good indeed. It will also be a good primer for GSPs wrestling.

I think Sonnen is being underrated in this write-up
It seems that we need a person willing to walk straight through some hard straights to get to the prize. Well Sonnen has shown that he can go in there and take the hits, just to get to you.
Better still, i say Chael has shown a willingness to be aggressive in the guard (while some say he just lays there, see a methodical and slow demolition job). Sonnen hardly ever stops coming forward, even when hit. So it would be interesting to see what happens IF he survives a few hits from Silva.
Silva is definitely on a different plane than fighters out there, but he seems to lack that simple thing that can make you truly great, courage.
