The Ultimate Fighter 11: Team Liddell vs. Team Ortiz Live Discussion (Episode 3)

Hey guys, I'm back. I forgot about this whole TUF thing this season because, frankly, it offers nothing of value. Because of a conflict with my jiu jitsu class, I won't be able to watch this live for y'all, either. I'll try to make it up with the weekly posts.
So, I caught up with the season last night. Looks like standard TUF fare so far. The coaches are already talking smack. Some dude "quit on his dreams." Pranks. Someone dogging it in training. Etc. etc.
Oh, but what's this about Rich Franklin stepping in for Tito Ortiz at UFC 115. This is very moderately barely interesting news! The MMA blogosphere seems confused why Zuffa leaked this information on Monday. Are we that dense? The UFC put this out there to try and wash the Dancing Silva and Crosby'd Penn out of our mouths. I think I'd rather watch Silva dance around for five rounds than Franklin fight Liddell. Meh.
I'm gonna guess "When Does Tito Leave?" becomes "Does Kimbo Fight Again?" for the season. Oh joy.

Really?
Why wouldn’t you want to see Franklin fight Liddell? It’s a much more interesting matchup for Chuck than Tito is. I could honestly see this fight going either way, and the match is truly going to mean a lot to the careers of both fighters. If Franklin loses, it’s going to signal that he has truly begun the downswing. If Chuck knocks Rich out in stellar fashion, it could be the start of a decent comeback.
It’s at least an interest-piquing fight…and with the potential to mean more than a Chuck v Tito matchup.
Also
The first two episodes of TUF have been decent this season so far. The fights in the first episode were shown in an entertaining fashion. It seems that the UFC has assembled some decent talent this season, and with the exception of Mr. Afro, most of the guys seem to have good heads on their shoulders, as opposed to the Junie Browning and Brother fiasco seasons.
Why the TUF hate? If you don’t like it, no one is force-feeding it to you.
And I’d rather watch Chuck Liddell drink Pabst Blue Ribbons and pad his belly for 25 minutes than watch Anderson Silva dance circles around his opponent mid-insult.
The title of the spike ad “who will be sent home?” looks like it’s referring to either chuck or Tito

Or a fighter leaves the house.
Team Liddell took the first victory in the competition – will Team Ortiz rebound and even the score? Plus, who will end up leaving the competition? Tune into an all new episode of The Ultimate Fighter tonight at 10pm ET/PT.
Yea…I was trying to make a joke with what we know now about Tito. Joke fail.

I thought the reason they went ahead and released the Chuck/Franklin info was because tickets were going on sell and they wanted to make sure the fans knew what the main event for that card was before asking them to buy tickets.
Just BE.
Yea, it was because the tickets were officially going on sale and even with “card subject to change” they can cause legal issues lying when they know the card is already not going to be that.
This whole article just sounds like everybody at BE is a bit butthurt over the Dana lying thing. Which I’m still trying to understand. If they were so blindsided by his lies; why did every article I read on here mention their doubts?

honestly. its a business, and in this business nobody likes spoilers. I for one am HAPPY he was misleading, because I’d rather not know what to expect down the road.
I love surprises. Let me guess, you were the type of kid that would carefully cut open a corner of his christmas presents early in the morning before you’re parents woke up to see what was inside, than carefully taped it back up. well good for you.

they fight the other team to move on to the next phase of the competition

this isn’t chess… thinking two moves ahead isn’t always wise since each move is a separate game in and of itself.

If you’re a dick to your training partners good luck finding a team when you’re out on your own. Making friends, helping others is part of the fight game…even if it’s about being the champion in the end.

I was kinda leaning the other way. I felt like Tavares won the very little bit of stand up and had mount and his back 2 or 3 times. Hammortree had many dominant positions to but idk I wouldnt be surprised either way.

Dude never came close to finishing that TD. Horrible shot, worse finish. Kept his hips up and head down – you’ll never finish a shot that way. Kimura by Tavarez neutralized anything Hammortree did.

right decision
Very close fight, but Hammortree had a one-dimensional gameplan and couldn’t implement it for the last couple of minutes while eating little punches to the face. Tavares won, IMO
Yup, definitely the right decision. Props to the judges.

what? You know Hammortree was the guy in the red shorts right?
The guy that got punched in the face until he got a take down and then laid on him in bad positioning and did nothing but get hit and fight a kimura the rest of the fight…

I felt Hammortree edged him out through his positioning and control. Take down. Side mount. Mount. But I can see why the judges saw it the other way considering the punches and Kimura attempt. Really close.
I don't want to lick any butt. - GSP
I suppose. I’ve never been much for wrestling control point wise; I always felt it should be a means to and end. But it was def a close fight.

Agreed. It gets points though. Though to beat a dude with better wrestling than you but not much else. Gray Maynard’s opponents can attest to that.
I don't want to lick any butt. - GSP
yea; this is true; I just like to see wrestlers use it to dominate positionally and then beat the crap out of or tap out their opponent; Kinda like the way Brock used his wrestling to control and counter Mir and his BJJ, but then he laid into him and finished the fight.

Tavares landed almost all of the blows in the third round. Hammertree spent the last half of the round trying for a TD, but never actually controlling T.
Taverez won the third round without a doubt. Hammertree has potential, but he needs to develop some actual offense. Control alone is not going to make for a successful career.

Tavares was the much better fighter
but Tito shows a well coached fighter can get out of tough spots and use heart and will to make it a close fight. I had Hammoretree winning that round but I’m willing to call it 10-10 since they brought offence in a different way.

I just watched the preview for the next episode in slo-mo, somebody on Tito’s team is on the receiving end of a straight up piledriver! Did anybody else catch that?
If so, I could see why Tito would be upset, considering his neck injury.
