Cung Le Wants a Rematch With Scott Smith:

"I’m hoping to get a rematch with Scott Smith as soon as possible... I will save my news... maybe we will announce those news at April 17th. Right now I'm training hard and I'm gonna be back in the cage real soon. So watch out. Kicks are coming."

I wonder if losing for the first time in MMA, especially when Le was winning the fight, caused him to have a fire lit up in his @$$. Also, I have to wonder how often he gets acting jobs as well.

No surprise

I would still pick Cung in that rematch.

Huh, when he's coming off a loss

he decides he wants to get back and fight quickly. Suddenly movie obligations are a bit more malleable?

I think he has a shoot starting up in June and wanted to fit another fight in.

Can't blame him

I would be embarrassed to if I dominated a fight from the very start and than get KTFO out of nowhere.

fight someone else

makes no sense for scott to take this fight though. Perhaps cung should fight someone else but who? Strikeforce has no depth at any of the weight divisions. They have one or 2 stars at each, Gegard 205, Hendo n Jake at 185 Diaz at 170 Fedor at Hw

Who makes sense for Scott Smith really?

I mean, the guy just fights people. And gets beat up, sometimes enough to lose, sometimes he finds a way to win. Nothing is really interesting for him.

smith vs. mayhem miller
jacare vs. robbie lawler
cung le vs. melvin manhoef

by kanodogg on Mar 8, 2010 9:49 PM EST up reply actions

Cung wouldn’t take a fight with Melvin, he’s too dangerous of a fighter with not enough for him to gain by beating him.

Also because Melvin’s the perfect fighter to expose the shit out of him.

. . . .

If Cung Le called Manhoef out — that would be one hell of a fight.

MW is the one weight class where they have plenty of options: Jake Shields, Hendo, Robbie Lawler, Jacare, Mayhem Miller, Tim Kennedy, Matt Lindland, Melvin Manhoef…
Unfortunately too many of those guys would kill Cung Le.

by John Nash on Mar 8, 2010 9:38 PM EST up reply actions

so I think,

that’s the sort of fight he might be interested in… a (sort of) Name opponent, who isn’t that hard to beat (anymore).

by Anton Tabuena on Mar 8, 2010 10:25 PM EST up reply actions

Lindland would be an awesome opponent for him. Unfortunately i give Lindland a pretty good chance of beating him. He’s just so much bigger than Le, and since Le isn’t knocking him out, sooner or later even with Cung Le’s awesome take down defense he’s going to drape over him and drag him to the ground where he’ll smother him.

Mayhem Miller might not be a bad choice because he won’t be looking to take him to the ground and it might turn into a pretty exciting standup affair, Unfortunately Le better make sure his cardio is a lot better because Miller will keep him working. Or how about Evangelista Santos?

by John Nash on Mar 8, 2010 10:43 PM EST up reply actions

Did you see how Lindland has looked recently?

and you still think he has a chance? He will get stopped in the first. That is for sure.

Mayhem vs Le would be real good…

He looked terrible

against Belfort and Jacare.
I don’t think he’s anywhere near where he was but even for a downward spiraling fighter he poses a lot of problems.
1) He’s a lot bigger than Le
2) I think he could eventually get it to the ground, where he blanket Le.
Maybe Le could stuff everything by Lindland, in which case he kills him. But I think sooner or later Lindland gets on top of him and stays there.
Have them book it and we’ll find out.

The Hoef coming off a loss...

against a guy who didn’t meet a punch or kick he didn’t like eating. Prey for Smith….

by Koob on Mar 8, 2010 9:38 PM EST reply actions

Kicks are coming?

I’d prefer to see some half-decent boxing technique coming, Cung.

by gzl5000 on Mar 8, 2010 10:57 PM EST reply actions

cause kicks are his specialty?

Even if Maia improves on his boxing, You don’t see him saying, “Look Out! I’ve got decent boxing coming at you!”

oooh scary!

by Anton Tabuena on Mar 8, 2010 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

Watching Cung Le’s kicking technique is a thing of beauty, I love watching him work….even with the sad ground game.

by Koob on Mar 8, 2010 11:52 PM EST up reply actions

i’d rather see cung le hit the treadmill a little more

by slantedwindows on Mar 9, 2010 9:56 AM EST up reply actions

i love Manheof

that guy is a fucking freak!!! FEED LE TO THE HEOF!

"When i get in there, in his face ,pressin the action,I'm RUFF NECKIN'EM,I'm throwin him around,I'm punchin him,hes punchin me, I'm eatin his shots and I'm Blastin him back in the face he's not goin to be able to handle it ." - Chris Leben on how his fight with Anderson Silva is gonna go.

by Rayce. on Mar 9, 2010 12:03 AM EST reply actions

That’d actually be a great matchup. Cung has great greco but no submission skill or GnP, Manhoef has no ground game at all, and both have terrible boxing defense. It’d be Manhoef’s ungodly power against Cung’s kicks. First one to land in punching range wins.
