Just saw this and was gonna post a fanshot. You beat me to it. Pretty sure that’s his skull. Gnarley doesn’t even begin to describe it.
The man known simply as "Christmas Cheesesteak"
I agree...
I’m not a fan of these types of injuries.

I would rather have one of these than a concussion from a KO.

For sure...
I doubt you would see as many KOs by knee to grounded opponent as we do nasty cuts that stop fights. I would be ok with niether. I train, so I know how much work goes into getting ready for a fight. Sucks to have it go to waste over a cut. The fight didn’t end directly because of the cut, but I doubt he woulda got subbed if he didn’t have a gallon of blood oozing from his head. O well, rules are rules.

We already have seen lots of fights ended with illegal knees to grounded opponents. Imagine how many KO’s from those knees we would see if they were legal. People have crunched those number’s numerous times and this idea that elbow caused cuts are ending lots of fights just isn’t the case, it just isn’t the issue people seem to think it is.
I'm okay with devastating strikes. Part of the charm of MMA.
I’d rather take a headstomp or three than be in boxing and be looking at as many more rounds of getting punched in the head as I can remain standing for.
I’d also much rather get a skull revealing vag than either of those any day.
Cuts like that still heal pretty easily, your brain doesn’t. I rather have the cut than a concussion(I have had similar cuts).
How often does that happen? Brain injury is infinitely more important of an issue than the very rare stopped fight due to a cut that gets blood into a guy’s eyes. Your comparing something that may cause cumlative brain injury to something that may cause a handful of stitches and almost never has the effect of ending the fight in reality.
People have already crunched the numbers numerous times to see just what effect the cuts from elbow’s have and it’s just not that much of an impact at all. Here is a recent fan post on the subject, with the number’s (thanks to Riley 96):
http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2010/2/23/1323703/cut-stoppages-elbows-to-blame-or
From the first Zuffa era event in which a cut stoppage happened (which is UFC 36) the UFC has put on 701 fights with 12 of said fights ending in doctors stoppage due to cuts. The figure is 1.7% of fights have ended in cuts.
I broke down the cut stoppages into 3 different categories which were: Legal strikes (kicks, knees, punches etc), Elbows, and Illegal strikes/ freak accidents.
Legal strikes led to 41.6% of the cut stoppages followed by Illegal strikes and freak accidents with 33.3% of the tally. Head bunts were the common illegal strike that resulted in a cut and the freak accident i pointed out is the Couture VS Belfort 2 fight (which can arguably go into legal strikes). Rounding out the bund is Elbow strikes with 25% of the vote. Out of the Elbow strikes each cut causing elbow was done by the fighter in a dominating position.
Elbows have led to 4 TKO stoppages in which in the numbers is 0.5% of fights while elbow caused cuts have led to 0.4% or 3 stoppages in 701 fights.

Aye-aye-aye, no me gusta!

Aye-aye-aye, no es bueno!
I'm gonna make a bold prediction here and say Cain "pillowhands" (as some of you have called him) lol Velasquez catches Nog right on the chin and finishes via strikes on the ground. Nog looked good against an old Randy. It didn't show me much. We’ll see.
