Matt Mitrione +125 still hoping to fight Kimbo Slice -155:

"I have no clue what's going on; the last 15 hours have been pretty crazy," Mitrione said. "To be truly honest, I haven't heard a thing from the UFC, and it's frustrating me. It's my understanding that it took awhile to get his paperwork signed, but I'm sure it's signed.

"Where there's smoke, there's usually fire."

"I texted Joe Silva (Thursday) night and asked what was happening, if there was any danger of this being cancelled," Mitrione said. "His response was basically that nothing was official and that I should keep preparing — that I'm still fighting in Montreal."

"Fighting Kimbo is a phenomenal fight for me, and I think it's a bad fight for Kimbo," Mitrione said.

I a gree that he is a bad matchup for Kimbo. He’s got real KO power and a ridiculous chin.

yeah meathead is a tough dude. jones, who has infinitely better ground game, couldn’t keep him down, and i think Mitrione has heavier hands coupled with better overall athleticism and reach

Meathead's an idiot.

But to be fair, Mitrione’s solid chin and heavy(ish) hands are a bad combo for Kimbo. Kimbo’s the favorite solely based on name value and the fact that nobody bothered to watch the gasfest that was TUF 10 to know anything about Mitrione.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

Plenty of people watched TUF 10. But you are right that Kimbo is the favorite on name only.

What do you mean nobody watched TUF 10, wasn’t it the most watched season ever?

by Worldisart on Mar 6, 2010 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

A significantly higher number of people watched the first and third episodes than any of the others, neither of which featured Mitrione. My point was that a hell of a lot more people saw Kimbo than Mitrione on TUF, explaining why the odds are favoring him. Apologies for the poor wording.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

Forget TUF, a hell of a lot more people have seen Kimbo period and this isn’t something that’s a secret. It doesn’t need blatantly misleading statements.

by Worldisart on Mar 6, 2010 8:59 PM EST up reply actions

…wasn’t saying it was a secret, I was saying it’s the reason the odds are in Kimbo’s favor when after watching both of them fight it appears obvious that Mitrione has the skills to give Kimbo a hell of a fight.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

Mitrione said. “His response was basically that nothing was official and that I should keep preparing — that I’m still fighting in Montreal.”

This makes me think that he will be fighting on the Montreal card, but not against Kimbo.

If you`re on TUF and you are the guy that gets named ``Meathead``, that is an impressive accomplishment.

dood, if there was a way to do standup on the internet, you would reign supreme

by Austin Martin on Mar 6, 2010 9:29 PM EST up reply actions

Honestly, “Meathead” is the perfect nickname for Matt Mitrione. He really should use it as his fighter nickname (because it wasn’t used when he fought “Big Baby” Marcus Jones).

Whoa...

I’m throwing the house on Meathead. Those odds are WAY too good. Mitrione is a tough dude, hits hard, and is way bigger than Kimbo. I’ll be putting some money on this fight for sure.

Or can the mods at least edit a “bold” pun into one of the first posts so it seems intentional?

by Tedd Welch on Mar 7, 2010 12:59 PM EST up reply actions

Damn....

I just went back and watched Mitrione vs Junk from TUF, that plus his performance with Big Baby doesn’t convince me he’ll beat Kimbo. I think Slice will either TKO him due to Matt gasing or win by decision
