WEC Signs "Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung to Six-Fight Deal

Photo by Dan Herbertson for Sherdog.

Jordan Breen has the scoop:

Sherdog.com has confirmed the signing of standout Korean prospect Chan Sung Jung to a six-fight deal with the Zuffa-owned promotion. The deal was confirmed with Jun Choi, who is the lead agent for Korean Top Team, the biggest entity in Korean MMA.

. . .

According to his representation, Jung's WEC debut may come as soon as April 24 at WEC 48, the promotion's first pay-per-view venture, headlined by Jose Aldo's featherweight title defense against Urijah Faber. The most likely opponent for Jung is said to be Cub Swanson, though bout agreements have not been issued as yet.

Jung cultivated a small yet loyal following within the ranks of MMA fans last year with his scrappy, balls-to-the-wall performances in Sengoku's featherweight grand prix, including a controversial decision loss to eventual tournament champion Masanori Kanehara. His willingness to stand and bang with any opponent - paired with an exciting submission game and indelible nickname - is sure to draw interest as he moves to the WEC's flagship division.

This guy has been flying under the radar for quite awhile now and I’m sure he’ll impress in his WEC debut.

He's really wild on the feet

But fun to watch. I thought he beat Kanahara.

Now they gotta get bibiano and Yamamoto and they’ll be running shit.

And before you shit talk Yamamoto, just remember Shogun’s loss to Griffin and his lackluster performance against Coleman.

Hells Yea!!!

He is a true representation of his nickname. The guy is just awesome. He is very stiff with his stand up, but got a granite chin, good power, and good ground game. I love this dude, just worried about them wrestlers which could mean him losing by points, but whatever… WAR KOREAN ZOMBIE!!!!

by pRoXiMo on Mar 6, 2010 8:17 PM EST reply actions

oh fuck yeah

he’s one of my favorites because not only he’s a Korean fighter, but he’s always active in the ring whether it’s on the ground or stand up.

This will help propel Korean fans to watch WEC. They already know about Ben Henderson who is half Korean and his tough story about his childhood growing with a single mom and etc.

*They have yet to decide air WEC in Korea. I hope Zuffa changes their minds. Zuffa’s MMA dominance in Korea is very close. I mean there will always be hardcore MMA fans who watch everything MMA, but I’m talking about the mass here.
