No disrespect to Forrest

I like him for pretty much every interview he’s ever done, the book was hilarious, etc. etc, but there’s no WAY he can legit think he has as good or better BJJ than NOGUIERA – even Rogerio, who is considered the "lesser"of the two. I wish him luck and everything, but goddamn if Spider didn’t scramble his brains even more than they were.

umm

You do know of Forrest’s grappling credentials, don’t you? Please, refrain from reading the name Nogueira – any of them – and thinking “Jiu Jitsu god.”

by N. Rodriguez on Mar 6, 2010 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

No, I dont

I saw him training with Cavalcanti once in a gi – he had on a purple belt. I’m aware of time spent with Drysdale. I also know of his MMA record, which shows he has 7 subs in 17 wins, his repertoire consists of triangles and RNCs. I can find no record of Griffin in any grappling competition. So having watched the sport for years, followed it very much for slightly less, and using as much google-fu as possible, I have come to the conclusion that Forrest is a decent enough grappler. He is, however, nowhere near the level of either Nogueira, both of whom are considered among the very top tier of MMA grappling, this according to pretty much everyone’s opinion I have ever seen, read or heard.

Except for yours it seems.

Everyone knows that Forrest’s grappling credentials consist in large part of Joe Rogan’s saying that Forrest has an “underrated” ground game more times than he makes the “underrated ground game” comment for other UFC fighters. Based on the number of underrateds he’s accumulated at this point, it’s safe to say that Forrest would finish top 3 in the aboslute division at the ADCC with no problems.

Ya'll are forgetting.....

…..that Shogun beat Minotoro by taking him down and just keeping busy on top, even though he didn’t have nearly the same BJJ creds. In the same light,Forrest beat Shogun in much the same way.MMAth bitches! (that’s a joke, for those of you in Rio Linda)

OK, commenters like you are the reason people think the readers of this site are so pretentious.

This is your post in summary:
‘I saw an online clip of Forrest wearing a low-ranked belt once, I saw on a UFC Countdown show that he trains with Drysdale, I looked on Sherdog for his submission wins and didn’t see anything. But I’ve been watching this sport since UFC 1 – and have online search engines – so I can’t be wrong. The burden of proof is on you to show me that I’m incorrect, which is always gonna be my safety net for making ignorant comments. Everyone in the entire universe is on my side….right, guys? C’mon, approve of me!’

I use the word “ignorant” in the most literal, non-insulting sense, as in that you are so unaware that it results in you making blind comments.

Oh, and if you’re familiar enough with grappling to know who Ricardo Cavalcanti is – which you should since you name dropped him – then you should be familiar with a guy named Roberto Traven.

Fin.

I wonder if the reverse isn't true

“make a comment that pretty much no one agrees with, degrade the other guy’s points without offering any of your own, proclaim yourself the winner, exit stage right.”

Make a claim, back it up. If not, gtfo. I’ll repeat: Nog bros are considered by pretty much everyone to have amongst the best BJJ in the entire sport. Forrest Griffin, in comparison, is not at that level. I’ve made a claim, backed it up with his record and other peoples’ opinions. You’ve done neither.

I'm absolutely embarrassed by how you're trying to 'defend' yourself

and so should everyone else. Shocked. No wonder people think so lowly of some of the readers of this place.

like they think about the posters on sherdog?

Or Fightlinker, which you have as your site, which I follow and post on as well? S’ok you can troll on all you want, you’re still a failure for trying to hide behind the logical fallacies you’ve put up.

Jesus

I’m the troll because you don’t know of Forrest Griffin’s grappling credentials? Where is the logic in that.

by N. Rodriguez on Mar 8, 2010 12:34 AM EST up reply actions

no

you’re the troll because you’re trying to rebuke a statement of “griffin is not as good at BJJ as Lil Nog” with nothing but “you do know what his credentials are?” and “you’re emblematic of why this place sucks”.

If I’ve missed something that no one else has also seen fit to disagree with me on, by all means, educate me.

Unfortunately for Forrest his boxing isn’t anywhere close to Nogueira’s.

To Mr. Griffin,
Please start learning to know when to talk trash, and when not to set yourself up to getting submitted.

He's going to get put to sleep by Nogueira's thunderous fists.

The Seattle Seahawks offense is driving......right into a brick wall at the end of the tunnel.

Wow..

After they censored Forrest’s AIDS comment the rest of that interview was pretty awkward…

by SBrooks on Mar 6, 2010 11:39 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Forrest’s best game plan to win that fight is to work a busy top game. That’s been the blue print on how to beat the Nog Brothers,at least until they both showed in recent years that they can be KO’ed,but Forrest just doesn’t have the power for that.Forrest is a big dude,is strong, and has good enough BJJ to stay out of trouble and rack up points on top for the better part of two rounds to win a decision.

Yeah, he needs to get him up against the cage and then to the mat and just rough him up. His size and wrestling are his advantage and despite what some commenters here have said the difference in jits skill is negligible. That being said, Forrest’s wrestling has never really been great, and that was his same exact strategy against Anderson.

by Neil Manich on Mar 6, 2010 3:54 PM EST up reply actions

What strategy against Anderson, running at him with his chin out and getting KTFO isn’t a strategy it’s idiocy.

Forrest hopefully got his mojo back after beating Ortiz and remembers what got him to being the best LHW and that was outworking his opponent and executing a great gameplan.

If he does this he wil beat Lil’Nog who has become seriously overated on here by beating a Cane who was hardly a world beater.

pretty unlikely Nog submits Forrest. The last time he submitted a guy who was any good (he did submit a guy in 2009, but he doesn’t even have a Wiki page) was in 2005, against Dan Henderson. Forrest Griffin has never been submitted in his career.
