Sucks, but not surprising. Maybe he can get a few wins in Strikeforce? We’ll see.

Coker on Buentello:
“We offered Paul a six-figure contract to fight Fedor, but he turned it down," said Coker in a statement released in September of 2009. "His decision is understandable considering Fedor’s level of skill but, at the same time, Paul didn’t really fit into our plans. He’s been a solid journeyman fighter and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."
He’ll have to take a pay cut, but I don’t see why Strikeforce couldn’t use an exciting heavyweight on their cards. Would also be good to feed to young up and comers.

It’s funny in one sentence he says they offered the guy $100,000+ to fight the best HW ever and in the next calls him a “journeyman” who “didn’t really fit into our plans”.

Strikeforce won’t take him back, at least not immediately. Everyone jokes about them picking up UFC scraps but they haven’t really done it. Werdum and Gurgel are about all that come to mind.
Buentello would be best off looking at Bellator if he still wants to fight.
Arlovski, Diaz, Shamrock, Scott Smith….you were joking right?

Riggs, Randleman, Lawler, should I go on?

Sheesh, over half of those guys either left the UFC by choice or hadn’t fought there in years before signing with SF.
My point was that few of the fighters cut from the UFC end up in Strikeforce.
Gouveia, Kang, Leites, Neer, Larson, Franca, Alexander, McDonald, O’Brien, McCrory, Rosholt, Aurelio and Gusmao among many others have been cut in the past 12 months. Any of them could have bolstered Strikeforce’s roster but none of them have been signed.

Because 1 Dan Henderson costs
as much as those 13 fighters combined. Frightening isn’t it?
No, they don’t sign EVERY UFC washout, but of those guys I listed almost all made their name in the UFC whether it was a week before SF signed them or three years before.

Shit.
He would have provided a good brawl against some of the TUF alumni.

A pity
It was clear that the fight Kongon – Buntello match was an LGH bout from the outset
Rhat said, I thought that the heart Buntello displayed, fighting through the dislocated finger and the fouls from Kongo, would have meant something to the UFC… it certainly got a huge reaction from the fans on the night.

They should have sent Kongo home instead.
That performance from him was HORRIBLE.
How dare he come into the fight with a gameplan, stand and bang you big pussy!

I’d rather not look good and have a job than look like Buentello and not have a job.

kongo beat the hell out of paul
on the feet and especially on the ground. ppl talking about keep paul around but if it was kongo they would be saying cut him. kongo rocks cain a couple of times but later got beat up but never taps out, he gets called a joke with no ground game. paul gets beatdown and does nothing and taps but they wanna say “keep him around” “he has heart”. its ppl that talk bad about kongo performance to make paul look good.

![Coach Trevor Wittman says Paul Buentello tapped out mainly due to pain from his dislocated finger, and considered retirement following his loss to Cheick Kongo:
"He couldn't take it anymore," Wittman today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "Kongo did a great job of applying pressure and (threw) nice elbows to the hip sockets and that high leg and the knees to the body ... that all had to do with it also. But his hand was in severe pain."
"The rules are (that) the fighter is allowed to put it back into place himself," Wittman said. "If he can't put it in and he can't continue, the fight is over. The doctor just kind of stepped in; I don't think the doctor understood the rules. We went over it with the commission in the back room. It was totally not the correct thing to do."
"[Buentello] said he was thinking about quitting," Wittman said. "I told him to not make any rash decisions. He was like, 'Oh, the UFC's going to cut me.' Honestly, from my perspective – and I try to keep it as real as I can because I love Paul, and I think he's a great fighter – I think he's got to have more dimensions at this high level of the game."
