Hey guys, remember when Roy smothered Kimbo Slice, and a bunch of people on here flipped out about how he was an idiot who totally blew his chance to impress the fans? That was pretty funny.

Yep. Like I said, pretty funny.

That’s logical IMO. I’m not one for picking apart people’s record (eg: oh, he was injured, he was sick, blah blah blah), but I’d like a do-over on that one for sure.

Yeah?

He really doesn’t like Nelson, lol. I think it could be a good fight though(and Dana would grow some hair just to tear it out if Roy pulled off the win).

More so if Roy could pull off an upset!

by Gentleman on Apr 1, 2010 6:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Toney would spend about 10 seconds on his feet. Roy would take him down and put him in the crucifix and that would be the end.

by dribblebib on Mar 31, 2010 11:33 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Roy vs, Toney would be awesome. Epic trash talk followed by an over the hill world class boxer getting smothered by the least athletic looking world class jujitsu practicioner.

If Roy wants to be the HW champ he’ll have to fight a guy like JDS.

It’s not like he’s lacking in experience.

by Ubernoober on Mar 31, 2010 11:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I have no problems watching Roy against JDS. Like you said, he has the experience. He’s not like other TUF alumni. He can take it.

I don't want to lick any butt. - GSP

by pud333 on Apr 1, 2010 12:13 AM EDT up reply actions

Maybe...

But Jr’s last wins have come against guys who like to stand. GG, Yvel, Crocop…Roy at least showed on TUF he is willing to fight on the ground.

If he can go there I bet he could win.

Then again, Jr is a bad-ass. He might put Roy to sleep before it got to the ground.

I’ll take Roy.

by Farthammer on Mar 31, 2010 11:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Roy would try his lunging overhand right/takedown thing he does and get cracked by a hard counter on the way in.

JDS has to fight someone, as the HW title sorts itself out, might as well be Roy.

by Anton Tabuena on Apr 1, 2010 1:56 AM EDT up reply actions

My Two Cents...

Carwin/Lesnar vs. Cain
Mir vs Nog
Kongo vs JDS
Nelson vs Gonzaga
Duffee vs Yvel
Struve vs Rothwell

by PM23 on Apr 1, 2010 12:02 AM EDT reply actions

wut bout Cro Cop?

Isn’t he already scheduled to fight someone. And Rothwell is fighting Yvel. No? Thought I remember hearing that because people thought it was stupid that Rothwell and Cro Cop didn’t just fight since they were suppose to already.

by bassturd on Apr 1, 2010 12:04 AM EDT up reply actions

yea it appears that CropCop vs Barry and Rothwell vs. Yvel are taking place at 115
also seems that Duffe vs Russow is up for 114…guess i should have looked into that a bit more carefully…lol

by PM23 on Apr 1, 2010 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions

thought it was other way around rothwell/cro cop and barry/yvel

by HarmlessNinja on Apr 1, 2010 12:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Duffee vs. Kongo (might be too early for Duffee)

by HarmlessNinja on Apr 1, 2010 12:52 AM EDT up reply actions

The only reason JDS hasn’t earned a title shot is because he has two other people waiting in line in front of him. He’s already beaten Werdum, Struve, Cro Cop, Yvel, and Gonzaga in a row. He’s getting another fight just so he doesn’t have to sit on the shelf for a year. The problem is coming up with a challenger who is worthy enough that you could put him in a title fight if he happened to beat JDS, and the choices are pretty slim. JDS already took out half the middle tier, and Nogueira and Mir already lost their respective shots at a title shot. Couture is a LHW whose last fight at HW was a loss to Nogueria. Nelson, with his exposure as the Ultimate Fighter winner, his exhibition win over Kimbo Slice, and now his devastating KO of Struve, is kind of the default choice here. Do to his deceptive physique he’s a fairly unique fighter and someone they could market as having a decent chance against JDS, whether that’s actually true or not.

The other option in my opinion would be to have Nelson vs. Kongo first, with the winner getting a shot at JDS, and the winner of that getting a title after Carwin and Cain have had their shots.

Fat Dana

" Nelson is for real!!!!! " Dana tweeted tonight.
That must of killed him, knowing how much he hates big country.

Keep winning Roy & even pudgy Dana cant deny your talent.

by ABS363 on Apr 1, 2010 12:26 AM EDT reply actions

As much as he probably hates Big Country, he must see the huge marketing potential there. The UFC will work it to their advantage, they always do.

by PM23 on Apr 1, 2010 9:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Dana is annoyed by Roy and his antics he doesn’t hate him, people really take things he says alot more personal than even the fighters do most of the time.

by Raker on Apr 1, 2010 12:39 AM EDT reply actions

Exactly. Dana gives everybody grief whether he likes them or not. I don’t think he dislikes Roy at all, he just gets on Dana’s nerves a bit.

Roy vs JDS

Make it happen.
I think JDS will tee off, but you never know.

by olimario on Apr 1, 2010 12:42 AM EDT reply actions

Nice win for Big Country. I thought he had a great gameplan; immediately neutralize Struve’s reach advantage and put the pressure on him. It’s the same thing that worked for JDS. Like I said before the fight, Struve has got to stop thinking he’s got great standup. He should take a page from the Semmy Schilt handbook on how to be seven feet and he will become a force at HW.

"Fists of Fat" does it again

Its at first hard to like and then later, hard to dislike fat boy Roy.

I do hate his belly and his use of it as if its a disrespect to those who bother to worry about being in better shape but, the guy wins and wins in Fat-tacular fashion.

I think this is James Toney’s first. Its a no lose for Roy, possibly a no win for Toney though so maybe it wont happen. Still, I’d like to see it.

added gate and attendance numbers.

Not a sell out, but it was a

“great crowd for a mid-week event.” … Both the attendance and gate figures rank among the top 10 in all-time UFC Fight Night history.

Translation:

So being as this was Fight Night 21 and it ranks in the top ten, this event had average attendance and an average gate.

Only kind of because if it ranks in the top ten I am assuming that the rank is towards the bottom of the top ten. I base this on the fact that they will always want to put the best face forward an puff up their business verbally. So if it is in the 8-10 range of best all time then it is just barely above average. Does that make any more sense?

Helps when the average is skewed by having run lots of small venues. I just did a quick run through – as long as they had more people than all the small theater shows that were Fight Nights, they’d be #10. Being a top ten gate would be even easier since one additional event was all free tickets to troops.
