UFC Fight Night 21 Results: Roy Nelson Flattens Stefan Struve
The fight began with an in arena blackout in Bojangles, North Carolina that necessitated the airing of a preliminary fight.
Roy Nelson, the winner of the highest rating season of The Ultimate Fighter, came into his fight with 6'11" Stefan Struve talking a big game and carrying big belly on his low slung 6 foot frame.
He quickly demolished his much taller opponent. Dropping him with a huge right hook and following up with savage ground and pound to force the stoppage.
Before the fight rumor had it that Nelson would be fighting top contender Junior Dos Santos if he won this fight.
Looks like that fight will happen. And it looks like people will realistically have to consider Roy Nelson in the UFC title picture.
Regardless of how that fight goes, Roy "Big Country" Nelson has emerged as a star in the UFC with back to back KOs in his first two fights.
After the fight, Roy Nelson called out pro-boxer turned UFC fighter James Toney, ignoring Junior Dos Santos.

not to make any excuses for Stefan, but that whole lights out thing seemed to take the life out of whole arena. For a guy like Roy Nelson who does not seem to put much care or concern into the fight it may not have much effect, but for a kid who is talking about the biggest fight of his life, you have to think it messed him up a little.
Struve doesn’t use his reach and really doesn’t use a jab, so regardless of what happened with the lights, the bigger picture is that Struve’s standup really isn’t that good. In every fight that he has been in the UFC, Struve has always been tagged in the face. Hopefully, he’ll improve upon it in the future, but against the Dos Santos’ and Nelson’s, that standup just won’t cut it at this time.
nelson looked amazing but JDS is gonna destroy him
imagine if he doesnt though? roy would totally have to get a title shot if he beats JDS, thatd make dana cry
if nelson beats JDS hes getting a title shot
who else would get it? dana would have no choice roys a fan favorite too
really? I see that a lot of people have suddenly done a 180 on him. All I was reading during TUF and the TUF finale was how he is a fat ass and he will get knocked out.
as for the title. It is Carwin and then Cain as of now that are lined up for the title shot apparently.
Mir-Nelson
I feel like thats a totally logical fight to make happen at some point.
i was thinking the same thing!
I also like mir big nog,. I think Nog deserves a rematch, he was quite sick before there first fight, and I think that is why Mir won.
Exactly what I was thinking
JDS is way to big a step up for Big Country right now. A possibly fading Frank Mir however…..and man would the hype for that fight be hilarious.
just 'cause you pour syrup on shit, don't make it pancakes

On the other hand
and to kind of disagree with myself. Nelson and JDS might both be ready to fight pretty soon where as Mir should probably take a decent amount of time off after a knock out like that.
ready to fight
Roy ought to be ready to fight again soon. He spends more energy making a sandwich than he did last night…
“I see that a lot of people have suddenly done a 180 on him.”
It turned around for me when he walked out to Wierd Al’s “Fat”. Of course that was a while ago.

I love the way Buffer introduced him as a Kung Fu fighter! Too funny. Love the guys sense of humor. Something lacking in the UFC.

Skyscraper Collapsed
He’s gonna need some love after that…
Its Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina
not Bojangles, North Carolina. Kid Nate=Fail, but I’ll let it slide
The rest... is virtually identical
It would be ugly for toney
He’d get taken down and that’d be the end of it…he couldn’t escape the belly.
Nelson shocked me by dispatching Struve like that tonight, if Dos Santos wants another fight he’s the clear choice to be that guy imo. Anyways as for Stefan he has to work on getting out the jab, he’s got a huge reach but he looks awkward at times because he doesn’t shoot out the jab and keep him opponents at a distance. But the good thing is he’s very young and losing to guys like Nelson and Dos Santos will make him better in the long run.
This will be a good fight for JDS
But remember that Nelson was thoroughly dismantled by Arlovski. And JDS is a younger, stronger, bigger, more confident version of AA.
But remember that Nelson was thoroughly dismantled by Arlovski
Nelson damn near won that fight and he was hardly dismantled. The Arlovski in that fight also looked better than Arlovski has in years. It’s the reason why Fedor was in his future.
Exactly.
Nelson appeared to be imposing his will (belly) before that horrid stand-up by the referee.
I specializes in grammar fail.
