The funny thing is...
At the end when he armbars the guy, he is doing the armbar wrong just like against Hardy. Take a look, the trapped arm’s thumb should always be pointed up and, Georges’ legs should be as close together as possible. I realize this isn’t a real fight but by habit he should be doing this correct either way. This is just armbar 101.

Renzo should make him give his blackbelt back.
Please don’t stone me….. I am kidding. …..

It’s the truth. Gonna talk to my coach about what else he did wrong tonight.

GSP’s grappling domination is evidence he should give his blackbelt back, because he couldn’t sub Hardy (or break his arm)?

He is being sarcastic.

I was quoting you, who said it was the truth, rather than Rayce, who said he was being facetious.

seriously?
are you judging the guy based off of a commercial?
you realize that advertisements are never meant to show technicalities in any sport.
Do you really think that linebackers tackle the way they do in gatorade commercials the way they do in real life?
Come on now, guy. It’s a game of camera angles. If they weren’t positioned the way they were, that camera angle wouldn’t have worked. UA doesn’t care about how the “armbar is supposed to look” they care about, “how can we make this shot look the best”.
Tear a guy down based on something quantifiable, not because he didn’t execute a textbook armbar in a commercial.
He’d tap you out with that imperfect armbar any day.
Did you even read my post?
HE DID THE SAME THING AGAINST HARDY IN THE FIGHT. Wrong BJJ is wrong, dont care if you are a white belt or black belt. Camera angle has nothing to do with the fact he has his thumb pointing sideways. That makes a big difference in the hold. Obviously you have never rolled, keep trolling keyboard warrior.

Interestingly enough
There is an armbar variation that involves creating the fulcrum point on the inner thigh instead of creating a point by squeezing your thighs together (the thumb, in this case, is pointing sideways). Incidentally, this is the exact armbar that GSP finished Hughes with. His armbar wasn’t “wrong,” Hardy just refused to tap even after his elbow popped (GSP confirmed that he heard “popping” when he was applying the armbar). Please refrain from judging a perfectly viable technique that GSP has used effectively in the past because his opponent was able to grit out an escape. Argue that he should have used a classic armbar or another variation if you’d like.
On another note, does anyone else get extremely annoyed with posts that end with the following: “obviously you have never rolled.”

*raises hand*
because, of course, once you make it clear that you believe someone has never rolled, you automatically become more versed in jiu-jitsu than they are.
So you obviously know my history based on me pointing out your ignorance of video production.
It’s really funny how you jump so adamantly to talk about the quality of his BJJ when I’m telling you that you need to look at other factors.
So what if that’s what happened versus Hardy. Ever heard of coincidence? Sometimes things look similar, especially when you’re actively looking for it. No one would’ve mentioned his armbar technique had he been able to tap Hardy out this weekend. Not to mention the fact that it’s not always possible to produce static results and technique against an opponent who’s capable of fighting back. You take so many things for truth and definitiveness that you make yourself come off as really closed minded and holier-than-thou.
And the fact of the matter is, the guy is a UFC Champion, which is a title you will never attain at any point in your life.
What I was trying to explain to you, is that for all you know, he was asked to move in a specific way, or was placed in a particular manner in order to create the best spot for the shot given that this was not an actual MMA/grappling match. This was a commercial. Chances are the producers/directors have no idea about the sport, and frankly don’t care. They’re tasked with delivering a product regardless of how “genuine” it would appear.
Hence my remark about other commercials involving athletes not being true to form when compared to their actual sport. The Nike ad with rampage that released about a month ago? He got knocked on his face and basically got a standing 8 count. Does that actually happen in MMA fights? No. But it was a presentation/design decision made by the people running the TV spot.
My point to you, before you start criticizing people’s skills in rolling/jiu-jitsu, what-have-you, is that you educate yourself on the medium you’re trying to comment on, rather than taking a narrow-minded view of a subject that you actually have no clue about.
When you run your mouth about things you’re not up on, it just makes you look like a complete jack-ass.

No
In a commercial shoot he should definitely not do it the “right” way.

Whats he doing with his queen way out in front? I wouldn’t play that opening, even against myself.
by jaybot on Mar 30, 2010 7:19 AM EDT reply actions 2 recs
He could be opening with
the Queen’s Gambit. I am particularly fond of that opening because it is a bit unorthodox and a greedy opponent can get sucked into playing for your Queen while you develop to take his King.
But, watching it again it definitely wasn’t the Q-gambit, more like the set designer set up the board randomly.

^^ mistake
I played a lot of chess over the summer and kind of found the Q-gambit on my own by accident. I love playing angles across the board and was looking for an opening to develop as many angles as possible as quickly as I could.

Tis an awkwardly placed play button.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

Dan Hardy was beat before he stepped in the cage..
Training almost exclusively to escape/survive bad positions lost Dan the fight before the fight even started.
This is why I think GSP
has the best chance to be our MJ or Tiger. Line up the sponsors and let him whore MMA for the world to see.
