Waiting for the flood of JONES/JDS ARE UNDERPAID WTF
Since people don’t seem to understand that not everyone reworks their contract after every fight.
Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

yep
Was about to make this exact post.

for a foreigner JDS is paid pretty high
they usually keep the given salaries for the foreigners real low for tax reasons and all that bs
bones deserves more though
Bones has already made $90 this year, plus any sponsorship income...
Not bad for a 22 year old college drop out IMO. One or two more wins and a new contract will have him sitting pretty.
Jon Jones and Dos Santos
Deserve much more money than that.

so
i know there are other sources of revenue, but does this mean they should state a loss due to the fact they grossed $568,125 but paid out $713,000 not including the knockout/submission bonuses of $200,000.
I guess that depends on what that were paid for add space and what Versus is paying for braodcasting rights.

plus other revenue streams like merchandise
Even if this did take a loss (total) I think Zuffa is looking at the big picture of get exposure to VS and wiggle into a potential major network.

Yep. This one could very well have been looked at as an investment.
Merch sales probably wouldn’t have been huge, because the corwd was relatively small, but I don’t think Dana is upset with the numbers one way or anoother. I think the venue sold out and Dana would have known the max possible gate. He still chose to give out extra bonuses as well.
Why such a small venue?

Merchandise!!!
Advertising, Sponsors paying the ufc to sponsor fighters . . . . . the list goes on, they ended the day in the black

It's not how much they lost..
it’s about how big their profit is..
by Anton Tabuena on Mar 25, 2010 12:43 PM EDT up reply actions
UFC doesn’t need to state anything about whether or not an individual event was profitable. If they lose a little bit of money on UFC on Versus, but then make tens of millions on UFC 111 six days later, that’s a pretty important way to look at how all the pieces fit together.

Nice
Man the UFC sure shelled out for this one.
i can see complaining when fighters are getting 3k/3k, but what fighters are getting now is decent.
i didn’t know sakara was on 21k/21k
by TheBiggertheyare... on Mar 25, 2010 12:13 PM EDT reply actions
These are pretty good payouts. No main carder was getting less than 20k/20k, and the guys with relatively few fights in the UFC (Jones, JDS) are getting paid well for their experience level.
http://www.twitter.com/TB_Money
exactly. if anything, Buentello is being overpaid for what he brings to the table. I’m not a fan of his but I’m kind of surprised Guida only makes 25/25 seeing as how popular he is with the fans and how many tough fights he’s been in
He probably got a raise before the Velasquez fight...
Kongo is a a big imposing dude. I know number of people who still like to watch him fight.
Yeah I'm one of them.
The guy is never going to be a world beater but he reminds me of a good friend of mine (who actually fights now) as far as size, build, etc…

What’s wrong with that?
Maybe his agent his better than his wrestling coach, but he is entertaining and got a pretty technical stand up, that’s good enough as long as he doesn’t face top tier fighters.
"You hit too hard, too hard, too hard..."
“Maybe his agent is better than his wrestling coach”
Good line.

Compare this to the payouts from PPV cards 4 years ago. This was a good payout for a free card on a crappy network, the sport has come a long way as far a fighter pay is concerned.

And in case anyone missed it, yes David Loiseau made $9k for a co-headline world title fight on PPV, same amount as Shannon Gugerty made on the undercard of this free on tv show. The sport is come a long long way in the last 4 years.

Gabe Gonzaga who fought on UFC 60 and VS
His pay has gone up 13×...and UFC 60 he won. So technically you’re looking at a 26x pay increase?
twitter.com/thisredengine
by Matthew Roth on Mar 25, 2010 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions
Yea there are several fighters on the Versus card that fought on one of those three to compare with, heck Alessio Sakara hasn’t gone anywhere really as far as his career goes but his pay sure has improved drastically.
This is why I don’t involve myself when people talk about how pay doesn’t compare to other pro sports. In four years to have your pay increase 26x, the growth is going to be there.

by Matthew Roth on Mar 25, 2010 3:06 PM EDT up reply actions
Very good point... The pay on the bigger cards usually ends up being over $1,000,000 now.
…and sometimes well over that… Salaries have more than doubled in the last number of years. As MMA grows salaries will as well.

i hate him cause he’s a dirty fighter brah, knees to the nuts, kneeing a grounded opponent in the head, etc. etc.
remember the al turk fight, when al turk threw a kick and inadvertantly hit kongo in the nads, so kongo clinched with turk and kneed him in the nuts as hard as he could? how the hell does he not get a DQ for an intentional nutshot. that’s why i hate him.. he’s a fraud.
hells yeah i hate kongo.
