You can never expect picks like this to be objective.
I hope Hardy has been working his half-guard sweeps instead of that rubber garbage. He’s going to find himself getting his guard passed all day.
I’m not well versed in BJJ, but I have come to the conclusion people either hate the rubber guard or think its the best Gi-less MMA BJJ there is.
Can you explain why you think the rubber guard is crap? Do you think traditional Gracie BJJ is better for the cage?
Ricky Hatton came closer to beating Manny Pacquiao than Marquez did to beating Floyd.

The only prediction worth blurting out is...
Dan Hardy via KO, 0:10 seconds.
Because that’s the only chance he has in my opinion. Once it hits the floor, it’s done.

Seriously, if I’m Hardy I’m just loading and trying to punch GSP in the head as he shoots in. You’re not stopping the shot and you aren’t a better grappler than Serra/Fitch/Hughes. Just load up, time it, and swing.

i agree
he should highly rely on his striking and pretty much only his striking. bravo didn’t completely turn hardy into a bjj master… in fact, i respect bravo’s bjj but i just don’t think it’s world class. I really hope that bj penn, silva, and gsp make very very short fights just to prove a point. I believe certain people are just lightyears ahead of the competition.
I don’t mind Bravo picking a guy who has trained some at 10th planet, but this seemed like a plug for his particular BJJ style more than anything.
Seriously, Hardy by strikes/cuts from elbowing GSP in the very specific mission control position?
Elbows from Mission Control/Rubber Guard
Its something no one uses but its a great spot to do it. Then again GSP will probably just slam him unconscious.
I don't seee any WW being able to hold GSP in rubber guard if he doesn't want to be there.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.
No, people try it, and it is a good technique. I’m questioning whether it’s remotely possible in this fight, given Hardy’s level of mastery of the rubber guard, and GSP’s keen awareness of that style of BJJ (and the more classic guard game as well).
To me, the prediction seemed self serving from Bravo.
Frank Mir pulling guard against Shane Carwin would be playing right into Carwin’s strength wouldn’t it?

i think a lot of people are counting out carwin in this fight. i would love to see mir win even though i hate him. if mir wins then my whole scenario will play out perfectly.
mir/carwin (mir) vs brock
then
JDS/cain (jds) vs brock/mir
eventually ending in Black House ruling the world. just need to get jacare in the UFC.
There’s a reason why Carwin is being counted out.
- Carwin was being outstruck by Gonzaga until he landed that short jab. He isn’t a technical or fluid striker by any means, and he’s robotic in his movements.
- Carwin’s takedown defense isn’t that great either.
- Carwin isn’t a full-time fighter.
And in my opinion, Carwin is being shoved into this spotlight way too early. It’d be nice to see his potential if he actually trained full-time, but he doesn’t.

I think he’s been shoved into the spotlight early because of age. Dude is 35 and doesn’t have the same extended time frame like Cain or JDS to play around with. The fact that he played football also means he’s taken some beatings.

never say never
every fight starts out on the feet. gsp has a chance of getting knocked out every time they’re on their feet. don’t let gsp fool u guys bro, he wants no part of hardy standing. as far as mir- carwin i see carwin wining this fight because mir’s mind is still on brock and will take carwin to lightly and will pay.
Why doesn’t GSP want any part of Hardy standing? GSP did more than fine against BJ Penn and Alves in the standup, both of whom are much better strikers than Hardy.
And Hardy has the same chance of getting KOed every time the fight is on its feet. Unfortunately for him, he has a huge chance of losing many other ways as well.

nah
look, i really don’t like Mir. but he isn’t stupid. the only reason he is talking all this trash is because he is smart as a promoter. He is only pushing all this drama cause it is pulling a ton of attention to this rubber-match. but he isn’t just talking, he is training very diligently at the points he will need to beat brock. he just wants to get the heavyweight belt and he is going about it the right way. unfortunately for mir, whatever happens in the mir/lesnar fight… he will soon have to face JDS.
that prediction is crazy!!!!
What the fuck is that Guy smokkinnn??………… oh right its bravo. Never mind.

I hear a lot of talk about how Mir’s obsession with Lesnar and how he is overlooking Carwin, but I don’t get that impression at all. Mir definitely is obsessed with Lesnar.
There are two ways this kind of obsession can work. Think of it in a different context. Consider a McDonald’s employee. He’s a HUGE fan of McDonalds and thinks of it as his career destiny. Unfortunately, he’s stuck on the grill at the moment. His dream is to run a store. He obsesses over that dream on moment-by-moment basis. There are two ways his obsession can go: (1) He could be so obsessed with becoming a manager that he neglects his duties as a cook and gets himself fired; or (2) His dream could focus him on the task at hand, providing him with inspiration in what is, to him, an uninspiring position.
I think Mir’s obsession with Lesnar is taking the second form. Based on his training regime and comments he’s made about the Carwin fight, I believe that Mir is 100% focused on destroying Carwin so he can get another shot at his Moby Dick. I’m not much of a Mir fan, but I’m really excited to see how the saga plays itself out. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a total of 5 fights between Mir and Lesnar. I think Mir is going to take out Carwin and then Lesnar (again).
