Dana White says he won't allow James Irvin to cut to 185 lbs again:
"No more 185(-pound fights) for him," White told MMAjunkie.com. "He didn't look good. I think he's got a lot of scar tissue in his face under his eyes. That was sticking out more than his eyeballs were. He didn't look good [at weigh-ins]."
"I'm a huge James Irvin fan," he said after the fight. "I'm a fan of the guy; I really am. He's had some of the best knockouts in the UFC, and he always comes to fight. Tonight, it looked like the cut killed him. He couldn't get off. He couldn't throw any punches tonight. He was basically getting lit up by Sakara, and that's not James Irvin. That's not who he is as a fighter. The 185 cut is too hard for him."

Just some fluke shit last night. Irvin’s eye was red as hell, knuckle or not. Lot of weird occurrances all around on that card.
Sure glad Lesnar got his shit straightened out.

Dana's right though
He looked way too sucked out at the weigh in and for a guy who normally walks around 220+ that’s a massive cut. Supposedly he tried this 3 or 4 years ago and got to 195 before giving up on the idea.

I agree with White, I’m an Irvin fan and I just felt bad for the guy last night.

Don't know if it was because of how lethargic irvin looked
But Sakara’s hands looked really quick last night. y/n?
It was both. Sakara’s hands were quick, but they looked super quick with Irvin lumbering around with all the speed of an arthritic grandparent.

he fought A. Silva on short notice to counterprogram the first affliction card. i think if dana white asks a favor and you oblige, i think the return on favors is a pretty sweet deal.
I'm old school hating Lesnar, I've been hating Lesnar since '08
I think I’d rather give a kidney.

Dana
Is a legit dude, it goes to show he actually understands what can happen when people cut like that, hes more interested in keeping James in good health than making fights at 185.
Agreed. It's for the better of Irvin's health and Dana knows that.

The only opponent Irvin should be devouring is a medium rare prime rib and a baked potato.

Irvin made everybody uncomfortable, Rogan couldn’t even concentrate, and me neither.

Totally agree. Irvin said he walked into the octagon at UFC 65 at 227 lbs for that LHW bout. And if you go back and watch the footage of that fight and his HL reel KO of Ramirez, Irvin was super ripped at that weight. Why on earth he’d want to lose that much muscle, and then dehydrate himself to near the point of death I have no clue.
He should go back to heavyweight if he doesn’t like the 205 landscape. Fights with Brendan Schaub, Kimbo Slice, or any of the recent TUF alums would be solid. He could fight Cro Cop in a fun scrap. There are plenty of options at HW if he feels like LHW isn’t for him. Especially considering that as an almost pure striker he doesn’t gain a ton from being “huge in a weight class” other than a little extra power on his punches, which isn’t really needed if you already hit hard with small gloves.

Agreed 100%
He’s obviously never going to be a contender but fights with Cro Cop or Kimbo would be fun as hell to watch. The fight with Schaub would be a good litmus test to see with Brendan is as far as striking (I know he’s a golden gloves boxer, but for MMA). Even a fight against McSweeny would be entertaining.

This, to me, is further proof that the 20 lb gap between MW and LHW is too big. Dana needs to implement the 195 lb weight class for guys like Irvin, Franklin and Wanderlei Silva who just don’t fit into either existing weight class right now.
Wanderlei doesn’t fit into his weight class right now?? personally I think after he made the cut down (the right way) he looked great against Bisping and didn’t show signs of gassing early like he did at 195.

The phrase “walking skeleton” was invented for this photo. Irvin at least deserves credit for actually making weight even though it clearly took a lot out of him, certain other fighters who always miss weight could learn from him
