UFC president Dana White has donated $7,500 towards cancer treatment for a British toddler:
"Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White made the surprise gesture on Ruby Owen's fund-raising website on Saturday – despite having never met the family.
The 40-year-old American decided to support the Kidsgrove family's campaign to raise £250,000 to pay for the youngster, who has a brain tumour, to have life-saving treatment in America. Ruby's dad, 38-year-old Martin Owen, said he had been amazed by the donation.
He said a family friend, who has asked not to be named, was a UFC fan and often went out to watch fights in America.
Martin added: "He emailed Dana and told him about Ruby's story and asked if he could help.
"The first we knew about the donation was when someone mentioned it on Ruby's Facebook page. We don't even know the man, yet he has given £5,000 towards Ruby's treatment. It's a big sum of money and we are very grateful. It's given us all a big boost."

Sure glad Lesnar got his shit straightened out.

But what you didnt know is...
Takes as much as he gives
Yeah he gives to little girls
And then sues the shit out a bar proprietor for showing a PPV on multiple TVs. Dont forget about that guys little girl too. Daddy was just trying to increase business by providing a better MMA atmosphere
We have yet to see his full plans for this child.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

Wow, only what 5 comments, for some good that Dana White has done in the world. What the fuck?
People are quick to jump his ass for anything negative, but I’ve seen alot of positive shit he’s done go without much recognition. That’s what pisses me off the most about “fans” of MMA.

I agree
And what’s worse is there’s gonna be people saying, “he only gave $7,500? what a cheapass”
When they won’t even donate a dollar. Hypocrites.
OMG guys, Dana has six Ferraris and he can’t even donate one of them to pay for this poor kid’s cancer treatment!
He just drive that kid to America himself!

Well
If you take $7500 as a percentage of what he makes yearly… I donate that much to homeless men on the street… just saying.
Really?
let’s say Dana’s income is $12 Million a year. And he donated $7,500 to a random kid that he has never met in his life. That’s .0625% of his yearly income.
Let’s say this average american only earns $24,000 a year (you probably earn a lot more), then that must mean, that guy gives a random homeless man $15 on the street.
When you are walking by the street, and see a random homeless man, do you give more than $15? or do you get your spare pennies and change and give it to him?

Child Please
It just sounds like you want to hate just to hate. He knew nothing about this girl’s case and donated money to her treatment. Get off your high horse and just see that it was a rad thing to do. Also as Anton said, at minimum you’re giving a random homeless man $15, so let’s try and not be a complete ass about things.
Oh and I know you’ve been watching since UFC1.

Honey child
UFC is a billion dollar industry, if you’re serious about charity or giving back to communities why don’t we monitor the percentage of our ppv dollars that go into social good. Of course its a good gesture, but if you’re the president of a billion dollar industry, this kind of news shouldn’t get, “wow, what a great guy” it should be an everyday occurrence and part of the their business philosophy to be socially responsible and give back in a number of different ways.
Its obvious that its a good deed and good for that family, I hope he makes it a trend 1000 fold.
Yep and a company that as far as I can tell has done a lot to give back. The fight for the troops was a very big deal. They’ve put fight cards on Army Bases before with the only people in attendance being the troops. Maybe I’d lend a little bit more credence to your whole point if that was the only thing that he as a man has done, but it isn’t.

7500 dollars is 7500 dollars to everyone
It’s your sort of scaling mentality that makes multi-million dollar athletes retire completely broke after their friends and family suck the life out of them.

Remember when Latrell Spreewell had a $20million year contract
And asked for something ridiculous like 80 over 4 claiming he had to feed his family?
But yeah, that oh he makes more than me attitude is awful.

Of course I remember;
I was a Sprewell fan and I’m a Minnesotan (he was with the Wolves that year). Pretty ridiculous stuff, considering he retired instead of playing out his final year with us for like 13 million dollars.

This is also something that got press.
I am sure Dana gives more behind the scene that we will never know about.
That's how it goes man
I used to work in retail, and I saw it over and over again, you go out of your way and bust your ass for 10 customers, and they never tell anyone about it. You screw up ONCE, and they tell everyone they know.
Of course he could give more, but what more do you want? He blindly donated a small amount of money to a family he doesn’t even know and has never even met. It could have been 5 dollars and I would have been impressed. Its more than most people would have done. Plus once the word gets out, I’m sure the ball will get rolling when it comes to the amount of donations this poor girl will receive.

Dana White is bipolar
One moment he’s fighting with one of his fighters and another moment he’s donating thousands of dollars to a sick kid. I just don’t know what to think anymore.
Don't confuse Dana White the promoter with Dana White the man
It’s the nature of his job and how he chooses to fill his role as promoter. He says and does things to get promote the UFC fights that seem crazy or ‘evil’ but as a person he seems like a decent guy at heart.
Should he go the WWE route with Vince McMahon and be Dana White off camera and Mr. White when mouthing off as the promoter?
by Roll for Life on Mar 2, 2010 12:01 PM EST up reply actions
I see him as a good guy. Yes he does the whole cursing thing and the flying off the handle and blahblahblah but he also gives away tickets and helps grow the sport and does charitable things for our armed forces that helps keep their mood up. People think that he’s a dick in real life when I think that couldn’t be further from the truth.

his long lost twin dayna white?
Meow? Meow?? Meow! ohhhhhh.... Meow =)
ummm…. it’s a particularly sad story… not a uncommon story, but still; any health problem a young child suffers from is usually the most tragic. and we should probably stay away from the dana white jokes on this one. just my opinion. im not usually known for being politically correct, this just seems like bad taste to me.

some people dont relize that the guy who runs a fight company and the guy who goes home to see his kids at night are not the same people.
by mmatokyo on Mar 2, 2010 4:29 AM EST reply actions 4 recs
Exactly!
People confuse Dana White the man with Dana White the promoter. When not promoting Dana seems like a good guy who gives to charity and supports his friends.
As far as promoters go he seems like the most decent out of any of them. Look into Don King’s past if you think Dana is a bad man.

It is but the quality is low
The NHS provides government funded healthcare there but the level of investment is is low. They do not have all the most cutting edge treatments available on the NHS (and it sounds like this is one of those) and there are often waiting lists for many non-critical treatments and operations.

Money well spent
He easily could have blown that amount of money on a new suit. Two years from now I imagine he would have been hard pressed to remember purchasing that suit, but donating money to a good cause is something you and the recipient carry with you long afterward.

Awesome thing for Dana to do.
A UFC fan e-mails him about this and he acts. Gotta admit the man listens to his fans.
Here is a link to donate to help this little girl:
http://www.justgiving.com/rubyowen
Maybe you could add it to the story so everyone can see the link and have a chance to donate.
Just BE.

Props to Dana for doing this
I know the story wasn’t put out by Dana (as far as I know), but IMO charitable acts should be done in anonymity or on a confidential basis.
IMO takes away from the act when it’s publicized about
@fjbar on twitter...formerly El Mexicutioner
I very much disagree with this.
Especially when it’s being done by celebrities. Just click on that link to that little girl’s fund raising page. You can see in the comments where other UFC fans have left comments and also now donated money.
People announcing their charitable donations brings attention to those causes and sometimes bringing attention to a cause can be far more valuable than a simple monetary donation. Especially when it is a celebrity who has a platform from which to reach people.
Just BE.
I agree with everything you said.
Say what you want about the mma fanbase but we are obsessive about our sport that cases like this get covered.

Good VooDoo on DW
Karma goes a loooong way and his he’ll be paid back in full for doing a wonderful thing for this family.
God bless that family and DW, for giving from the heart.
WIthout family, you’ve got nothing.
