UFC Primetime: St-Pierre vs. Hardy Part 2 - Ratings Down 50 Percent
The debut episode of the GSP vs. Hardy series scored big, but this follow-up has to be a little bit of a disappointment as it drops 50%. GSP vs. Penn only lost about 10% between its debut and follow up. Below is a summary of the ratings history of the entire UFC Primetime series:HT: mmapayout.com
January 14th, 2009 – Primetime: GSP vs. Penn E1 (880,000)
January 21st, 2009 – Primetime: GSP vs. Penn E2 (825,000)
January 28th, 2009 – Primetime: GSP vs. Penn E3 (662,000)
March 10th, 2010 – Primetime: GSP vs. Hardy E1 (1,000,000)
March 17th, 2010 – Primetime: GSP vs. Hardy E2 (506,000)
Scheduling the show late on St. Patrick’s day, when many of MMA’s target M18-34 year-old demographic was having a drink at the pub, didn’t help.

Ha, some people want nothing more than daily, spit-shined press releases about how the UFC is kicking so much ass.

Wha!? I thought I’d just watch it on Bloody Elbow 4 times the next day. Does my vote not count now?

I wonder if it had anything to do with a little something called the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament?
Well there goes that theory.
Actually I was alluding to the fact that you can’t expect anyone to be talking about or even thinking about anything else when the tournament is sucking the air out of everything this week.
Wow. I was so drunk I guess I actually blacked out on Saint Patrick’s Day.

my educated guess would be...
first episode being fucking boring as fuck.
so why would anyone bother to watch it especially for the non-mma fans?
2nd episode was pretty cool though

I just couldn't help but notice how
The UFC hooked casuals in with the UFC 108 replay the last time and got great ratings for GSP/Hardy.
They didn’t do anything like that this week and bam the ratings are sliced in half.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.
UFC Primetime is lightyears behind HBO 24/7.
Lightyears.
HBO 24/7 made Mayweather vs. Marquez interesting, for god’s sake.

You know what's so much better about 24/7
Besides the better production values, is that there’s a lot of emphasis on the boxers’ lives outside of training. They seem like real people you can relate to. Thus you can get behind them.
And I never thought I’d say this, but showing training footage for like 99% of a Primetime episode gets old after awhile.
The other thing is they don't try to manufacture drama.
JMM isn’t a shit talker, and they didn’t try to make him one.
Also, nobody thought JMM had a chance, and that’s how they represented it. Even Nacho was like, “We really have our work cut out for us. He’s put on the weight but it slowed him down some. I don’t know if we’ll be able to pull it off.”
Contrast that with GSP saying Hardy “wasn’t a martial artist” and the myriad stupid manufactured shit they’ve gotten Hardy to say. Also, despite the fact that everybody in the MMA world thinking Hardy is going to get wiped out, nobody in his camp entertains any doubts whatsoever, even people like Serra who are only tangentially connected.
I just think 24/7 takes the storylines that are there and those that emerge and portrays them honestly, whereas Primetime works overtime to manufacture the storylines they want.

I rec that SNK boss comment to infinity kind sir….
and wtf man, I am now no longer in Zuffa’s prime demographic…
Watching Dan ’Ardy completely lose the mental battle at the end of the episode was like watching a gamer succumb to frustration after getting blasted by Original Zero 10 times in a row.

You wrote the title wrong....
It’s supposed to say UFC In Trouble Part 3
I liked both episodes so far. Its like a movie where the forces of good and evil are rounding up their troops for the final battle. The music at the end of pt 2 was bad ass.
Bad ass like REO Speedwagon or somethin'?

Shazam the Tune please...
Does anyone know the artist and song title for the track used in the final moments of Episode2?
Thanks in advance!
I thought the funniest part was GSP going on about Dan Hardy not being a true martial artist like him, then it cutting to Dan’s home video of him training with Shaolin monks.
I’ve thought for a while that GSP’s “humility” angle of talking up his opponents is pretty fake, and in a funny way is more hubris than real humility, convincing himself that he’s too good to make a mistake like underestimating his opponents. Even though Dan is a smack-talker and fairly brash, in a weird way he comes across as a lot more down-to-earth to me.
Hardy is the Anti-Michael Bisping
Bisping is boring, arrogant and comes scross as a prick in his interviews, As much smack as he talks, Hardy’s humor and charisma make a much more interesting interview than even Georges, who is a great fighter, lacks Hardy’s accessibility.

Accessibility....
I expect GSP to take full advantage of Hardy’s “accessibility.”

I think what Gsp was referring to was that Hardy was not a complete fighter and based on what hardy has shown in the past he is a one dimensional fighter where as gsp is good in a lot of areas. I think he meant to say mixed martial artist not martial artist. -1 to gsp for not speaking one of his 3 languages perfectly
They really missed the better of the two shows thus far then. We got to learn a lot about Hardy and I like him a lot more now. Not that I would bet on him to win but I respect him a lot more as a fighter now. I always thought Hardy would be a great champ, he’s not your typical hooligan, he seems funny, articulate and does have a pretty interesting background. He does know how to hype a fight.
You would almost think that this was the reason he got the title shot or something. I would have rather seen Paulo Thiago get the shot even without his victory over Swick.
