I see he has the discipline and strength of mind to go far.

He'll definitely die a wing chun man if he tries that shin in the cage.

Crazy Wing Chun people.

by dancingChicken on Mar 19, 2010 2:37 PM EDT reply actions

Dude, don't provoke them.

I am SICK to DEATH of reading about how a Wing Chun guy would destroy anyone on the feet OR on the ground because of their awesome hand fighting. when you ask them why there aren’t any Wing Chung fighters in MMA they say, “Oh, well it wouldn’t be safe for anyone else to be in the cage with them.”

To spare the life o Anderson Silva they are truly noble.

This reminds me of the time I punched a guy who said he knew “the Bruce Lee martial art” at a party when I was 18. I’m still here to tell the tale, so I’m going to assume Wing Chun is garbage. :-)

I miss the old days

Back in the 90s, they would have just told that dude sign a waiver and sent into the cage to learn a lesson.

Throw him in the cage...

Nothing crazy, they should have let him spar full-contact and see how he does.

by xfreekx on Mar 19, 2010 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

Thats what I was thinking the whole time. Just throw him in there with same random mma guy that was there and let them have a good sparring match. He would learn very quickly what wing chun’s limitations are.

I would have like to have at least seen him spar, why not give him a chance, if some dude came in saying he is a Karate guy people would have laughed at him and most of the time they would have been right…most of the time.

by Kefka on Mar 19, 2010 2:48 PM EDT reply actions

i get the feeling they saw enough

This isn’t TUF on Spike where there is lots of money to be made from featuring interesting individuals on television for ratings.

I have to assume that time spent on a person who does not eventually make it is a complete waste for M-1.

Why increase the chances of wasting time by humoring some delusional individual who doesn’t seem in full control of themselves.

They handled it with remarkable poise, I think. I bet there are a lot of gyms where if you walk in with that attitude you may find yourself “sparring” with someone who has bad intentions for you.

“… there are a lot of gyms where if you walk in with that attitude you may find yourself "sparring" with someone who has bad intentions for you.”

That can actually be a good thing. I went into a gym years ago with a stupid attitude and about 20 pounds on someone who promptly relieved me of my attitude and (briefly) my consciousness after feeding me a double helping of humble and elbows.

He's been fighting for a couple years I believe

Seal the Deal’s been fighting in the underground NY scene for a while now in NHB matches. got some wins, but no one at the “pro” level.

So much for “social” networking – they deleted his comment on the video at YouTube.

by asa on Mar 19, 2010 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Huh

He looks better against human opponents (such as they are) than he does against that blocking pad.

those video’s show where the Wing comes from in Wing Chun considering he was just winging punches till one landed on whatever blocking pad of meat the event promoter pulled in from the morgue.

Shawn "SEAL THE DEAL" Obasi VS striking pad

Striking pad wins.
Did I really see him kiss the M1 guy’s foot? What a joke.

Look at it this way. At least it isn't Rowdy Roddy Piper having success in the HW division.

Trivia fact

John Matua. The guy that Tank KTFO’d into convulsions at one of the early UFCs was listed as a Wing Chun fighter. Anyone else coming into the cage with the same style will see the same result.

by cyke on Mar 19, 2010 3:34 PM EDT reply actions

Wasn’t Jason Delucia also a Wing Chun fighter? I seem to remember him having a few fights in the early UFC years. I also remember him getting his arm broken by Royce.

Holy crap

Aside from the obviously entertaining Wing Chun man, this was the worst video report I have ever seen. 3rd graders shoot school projects with more production value than this abomination.

by Pahuus on Mar 19, 2010 4:55 PM EDT reply actions

Why the hell would they put him saying that he’s a wing chun guy in the video and then just show him throwing kicks? Kicks are not a wing chun specialty. This makes no sense to me. Also, making fun of this guy about his style without seeing him fight is just… poor form.

People have linked his fights already, you should watch them.

by CSKit on Mar 19, 2010 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Just watched the links. That guy sucks at wing chun.

The best display of wing chun I saw in those links was the first shot that dropped that fat white dude. That is not the Wing Chun that Samuel Kwok teaches and that Carlso Gracie supported. Amateur, at best.

Was he just being sarcastic and over-exaggerating by doing that or was he seriously pleading and begging to fight for M-1?

by chrisbboy82 on Mar 19, 2010 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Probably both. He’s eaten too much Wings Chun, cause he didn’t look mentally stable.

He lost it long before that.

by spectaa on Mar 19, 2010 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know...

I feel for the guy. I at least understand what he’s saying. I train primarily MT and BJJ and if I was asked to do some kind of TKD windmill kick I’m sure it would like like I have zero balance too. The guy can (hey, it’s all relative) and has fought before so it’s not like he has zero MMA experience. These old school arts get less and less respect as time goes on, which I think is unfortunate. Especially considering he does have some ground skill (at least a solid sprawl) so he doesn’t ONLY train Wing Chun.

by MauiPimpin on Mar 19, 2010 9:38 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah it's true

But I would have handle it a bit differently, trying to keep my composure, my dignity, I don’t know.

Well I still want to see someone successfully incorporate Wing-chun into MMA. If Machida could do it for Karate than why couldn’t someone do it for Wing-chung?

I'm certainly not saying that it couldn't be done...

…but Machida and Karate don’t prove anything about anything. I mean, does his successful integration of Karate techniques mean that my “cover your face with one hand and slap with the other”-Fu could work as well?

MAYBE! :-)
