Good interview. I kinda like Hardy’s cocky, taking the piss sort of attitude, (of course no one takes the piss like Lyoto, ba dum-dum!), but it’s good to see a little more natural, laid back side as well. A bit more real and down to earth than any interview I’ve seen with him. I still fear for his life, however :)

Agreed.
I’m definitely in the group of people that likes to see their fighters with the same smash-mouth attitude. Guys like him and BJ Penn are refreshing; you can be friends and go out for drinks after the fight, but please..stop with the bowing and shaking hands before!
Great interview
Love me some Dan Hardy!

Great work
You’ve gotta give it to the folks at the Telegraph, they get it. Outstanding, interesting interview. Gareth is one of my absolute favorite MMA reporters. He has a clear passion for the sport, asks good questions and brings excellent insights into aspects of the fight/fighter that other MMA reporters never even come close to.
Gotta disagree
Davies is one of the worst (and I mean WORST) homers I’ve ever seen.Nothing wrong with that, but he’s supposed to be an objective journalist.Did you see him on MMA Live after UFC 110?He was making more excuses than most of the fighters were.“Well,Bisping took an illegal knee in that fight, plus we all know he really won that decision anyway.” C’mon dude. You’re a journalist, not a fan on a message board.

I know what you mean, but in the UK he’s basically the only high profile MMA journalist there is. Fighters Only is a good magazine but not many of the journalists or writers have a very high profile, which Davies does from writing for the Telegraph. Despite being biased towards British fighters at least he is writing for a well known newspaper and clearly has some knowledge of the sport, and is pro-MMA. It is barely covered at all in any other newspapers in the UK
The significance of Davies
What must be considered about Davies is he’s been a journalist for The Telegraph since 1993 and has covered boxing for a lot of that time. The Telegraph is a highly respected, NATIONAL broadsheet newspaper with a medium conservative lean.
Gareth was the first journalist to give the Paralympics proper coverage in the UK and played a large role in building coverage of the sport up from the ground. It took some years chipping away at it, but it happened.
Gareth could potentially be the UK’s greatest ally in true sports media, and not just MMA specific blogging, in getting MMA recognised as a true sport worth covering.
UFC 111 is getting two page spreads in the print publication of The Telegraph, which has daily issues and a Sunday special (The Sunday Telegraph). I can’t even think of a national North American newspaper that covers the UFC like that.
