Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin Reportedly Set to Counter Program Strikeforce on CBS

Fightersonlymagazine.co.uk breaks the news:
Chuck Liddell will be fighting Rich Franklin in his next bout and not rival TUF 11 coach Tito Ortiz, Fighters Only has heard from a reliable source.
Rumour has it that the event will be staged in Nashville and be broadcast for free on the Spike TV network.
The Tennessee State Athletic Commission has not yet received an application from the UFC to stage an event in Nashville but the organisation has until Thursday to do so.
Ortiz is out of the fight but not because of injury; he is healthy and is not suffering back problems as some rumours claim. The reason for his withdrawal is known to Fighters Only is something that may significantly impact his future as a fighter, but we cannot report the details at this point.

OMG
Another season of TUF with no fight between the coaches.
By the time they have the fight Chuck will be ready to go again.
IT will just be kinda weird if he loses to Rich. Which is pretty likely.
rich is gonna put him away.rich only loses to Brazilians(robbery decisions excluded)

Are we ever going to get a fight between the TUF coaches?
Randy Hahn: "I’ve been referred to as a playa…"
I like it. I really like it. Should be a fun fight.

It’s a great money fight but doesn’t it screw the Tito fight a bit? Chuck will more than likely lose to Franklin and then have to wait until August to fight Tito. Tito will have to wait on the shelf for almost a full year at that point (which is not what he needs at his age). And Chuck losing will be fresh in everybody’s head and making a Chuck/Tito 3 fight all the more pointless.
by TKO1890
i dont know how likely it is franklin will win. He more than likely wont knock him out. But if he does your right it could fuck up chuck/tito3,allthough i dont know how much more pointless that fight can be.
by JaTinkles
Supposedly the Chuck vs Tito fight is off but I dunno.
by fozo
dana wouldnt do that. No way in hell they do 2 seasons in a row with no "payoff" at the end.
by JaTinkles
To be fair, we’re supposed to be getting Rampage/Rashad later this year and I’m sure Tito/Chuck 3 will happen at some point but it certainly won’t be anytime soon. I’d just hate to see the little momentum and interest for the Tito/Chuck 3 fight go down the tubes because Dana wants to take some wind out of Strikeforce’s sails.
by TKO1890
"take some wind"? I think Dana is goin for the jugular. With Fedor sidelined till late summer, if strikeforce pulls shit numbers for this next CBS card, they might be on Dana’s tombstone soon.

The rumors are as follows a) Tito wasn’t going to be ready in time to fight on the 4/17 show (either due to injury or a possible split from Jenna) and the UFC went ahead and booked Chuck anyway. From one of the UG sources, Timmy B:
They needed Chuck for 4/17. Ortiz wasn’t going to be ready in time. Which is why Ortiz sent out a tweet about it "being business". Franklin wasn’t confirmed as an opponent until this week.
b) Tito and Chuck were never going to fight again to begin with. Rich Franklin has always been in mind according to another source on the UG who is posting similar information in the same thread, dimesnake:
don’t know the details regarding either…i just got a text form my source w/ permission to post here…
the text said "tito isn’t fighting chuck, never was. Its Rich’s fight.
So it might be something other than injury too.
by fozo
i read that too, but the whole "never was" thing kinda throws me off. Jenna jameson be arguing with chuck on twitter iff they where never going to fight.
seems kinda fishy
by JaTinkles
That wasn’t Jenna Tito later revealed that was him going back and forth on twitter w/ Chuck.
And maybe the "never was" part means Chuck vs Tito III was never on the table for April 17th.
by fozo
ahh that makes sense. And i need to go to bed when i start saying things like " jenne jameson be arguing" i need to turn mybrainoff.

Liddell vs Franklin will be sweet!
good matchup for both
by ADAMantium
sounds fishy didnt rich want time off
by ndzzy
Guess this is what happens when the UFC never officially announces a match-up and we all just assume it, meaning Liddell/Ortiz 3 for June. Just a little strange for Chuck and Tito to be so public about their trash talk leading up to their fight. Obviously they were under the impression that they would be fighting as well.
by Steven T. Kelliher
I’ll believe it when it is officially announced For some reason, I am just not buying it that this fight, Liddell vs Franklin, is happening. I just find it hard to believe that Chuck and Tito have this whole rivalry fueled by the next season of TUF, and the two won’t end up fighting.
by chrisbboy82
randy will probally fight rich on this event more likely then chuck on this card
by SHOWMAN 56
We’ve already seen Chuck vs. Tito twice, a new and exciting matchup is better IMO

I'd watch Fedor vs. Zulu I, II, and III
That’d be the greatest Freakshow Fight Trilogy of all time.

For all of you Dana nut-huggers/Rampage-haters..
A TUF coach can fight someone else other than his ‘rival’. The world did not end because two coaches didn’t fight each other immediately.
Now, if Rashad had lost to Thiago Silva, or if Franklin beats Liddell, I still don’t think it’ll do anything to lessen the hatred Rampage/Rashad or Chuck/Tito have for each other.
