Ryan Bader, CB Dolloway and Aaron Simpson Leave Arizona Combat Sports

The move by the three UFC competitors and Arizona State alums comes at a curious time as all are coming off the biggest wins of their careers. Bader defeated Keith Jardine via third round TKO at UFC 110, Dolloway took home a unanimous decision that same night against Goran Reljic and Simpson defeated Tom Lawlor at UFC Fight Night 20 in January.Jamie Varner responds on the UG:
"I've been at AZ combat for 6 years now this gym builds fighters from the ground up! None of those guys would be where they are with out there training partners and the Lallys! Some douche bags like to talk shit but our gym is battle tested and proven! When Riggs left he started losing and got cut from the UFC. When Fickett got kicked out he started losing and got kicked out of the UFC! I’m very interested to see what happens with those guys I wish them nothing but the best in there careers, but they made a HUGE mistake!"HT: Mmamadness.com, fozo

How could I forget that? ATT maybe?
by Deo Wade
didn’t efrain and bader train either at ATT or with the nogueria brothers after winning the show? seem to remember seeing that mentioned somewhere.

there can only be one ultimate d-bag in every camp and there’s no way any of them are gonna top varner.

I never realised how utterly wide open Jardine left himself in the above knockout. Really odd. It’s like he was rocked by the knee which didn’t even look like it hit him. He wasn’t even close to either blocking the punch or getting the clinch on Bader. I must be missing something here. Why would he leave himself so incredibly open?
Because he was already rocked hard from an earlier punch not shown in that GIF. Bader caught him good but didn’t capitalize immediately. When Jardine stumbled back, Bader realized he was hurt from the punch and charged in with the flying knee and eventually the knockout.

And, on top of that, Jardine has a tendency to drop his right hand; it’s part of that awkward punch that he throws from his hip that comes at weird angles. But people have realized that and he keeps getting tagged in the same way. Rampage twice caught him with his right hand down, once knocking him down and once staggering him badly.

That's basically their whole camp
Who’s even left? Varner and who else. There must be something else to this story.
The man known simply as "Christmas Cheesesteak"
huh
Didn’t Varner start his own camp/gym recently?

My money is on them going to greg jackson's

Looking past Bader giving Jardine the Stanky Leg
I think Jackson could turn Bader into a World Beater.

@deowade
they already fought, so there's no reason for them to get at it again,
(unless Rashad wants to take revenge at him too haha)
so I think it’s possible..

I wonder what's going on at AZCS
Probably nothing good if this trio is leaving together. I wonder what happened.

They realized they’re better wrestlers than that gym is worth sticking around

Bader loss hurts
CB was one loss away from getting cut and A-train while a monster is at an age that makes it tough for him to improve to where he can be a force but Bader is a legit LHW contender and a walking ad for AZCS.
How did I end up on this bandwagon and why does everything say property of Chael Sonnen?
lol, no way CB was one loss away from getting cut, (think Mac Danzig).

Man CB gets no recognition
Look at this dude’s skillset. He’s sharp in ALL areas. He’s made some slip-ups but CB is still one of the better TUF alums of the past several years.
It’s amazing how far “I don’t like that guy” can go. Complete blindness to ability.

Dolloway’s questions are never about ability. They’re about his mental slip-ups. He’s got a ton of potential and is already a really good fighter, but if he wants to be a contender, he has work to do.
That said, he wasn’t getting cut.
"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."
He will always be an underachiever
Its not in his abilities, its in his attitude. He wreaks of “I am on top” when he is miles from it, just because he was a AZU wrestler and all that garbage. He needs to eats some humble pie, but probably never will because he has bought all the hype everyone has been feeding him about how great he is.
But as far as I can see, losing 2 times in a row to 0-0 WW Amir Sodallah will be a very tough shadow to come out from under
It’s amazing how far “dur” can go to blind someone into not realizing midwestbred made a comparison between a TUF winner and a TUF supposed-to-win in terms of their contracts with the UFC.
Didn’t they have some sort of situation where the gym would pay them a salary (for a few years at this point) and then the purses would go mostly to the gym?
I could have sworn that I read that at some point. i could see why that would be very helpful earlier in their careers, but might not be the best choice once you have a decent contract form the UFC.
good point
You’re right. I don’t remember the details, but I remember that being part of the appeal originally for those guys to join there.
Thats Team Takedown
of which Johnny Hendricks is a part. They give you a salary, help you out with rent / car payments, give you lots of perks etc. in exchange for a percentage of each purse. Not sure about the details.

As far as these three go, I am predicting that they are going to form their own gym/camp
It wouldn’t surprise me seeing these three at some other well-known camp like AKA, ATT, Jackson’s, Black House Gym, or just somewhere else. I am just guessing at this point, but seeing these three fighters’ success, it just wouldn’t surprise me to see them forming their own camp/gym.
As long as they go anywhere but Jackson’s! Damn, I do not want Jon, Rashad, Keith and Bader all on the same team if they won’t fight each other.

Thats what I was thinking
I think that each of these guys have an Ego (although it may be warented), and I can see them forming their own camp
If they did go to jacksons, we could have another aka situation with evans, jones, and bader. No bueno.

They didn’t realize how far they’d be able to go in MMA. It’s not like their gym is unknown, Jay Glazer trains/writes about it all the time along with Matt Leinart and other AZ Cardinals. Needless to say that’s just my thoughts.

Wooooooooooow :o
If a trio of fighters defined their camp, these guys WERE ACS. Crazy news!
I’d like to know WHY they left and WHERE they plan to go. It can’t be the training via ACS is churning out top prospects left and right. Rather, turning prospects into competitive A-listers. My guess is management/treatment. I know about a million reporters will clamor for an interview so hopefully someone says something. I gotta know why a couple of my fav fighters have left one of my fav gyms!
Make some wonder if Condit ACTUALLY left for the personal reasons he alleged or if that was just a politically correct explanation.

Ok so here's the deal....
My gf’s brother is Eddie vazquez a boxing/mma trainer who use to be a trainer at AZCS. He’s now training Henry cejudo for his MMA debut and these dudes who left AZCS will now be trainning with them. They might hold it down at the lions den in scottsdale until they find their own spot. And yay I get to train with them too. Oh shiiit!

Also CB did look excellent in his last fight. Jesus. He made Goran look amauteurish. Goran is a big dangerous mofo as well. Out kicking him too. Look for CB to start making an impact in 185 as long as he got his sub defense down now.
Goran was out for almost 2 years, had serious back injury and this was his first cut to 185. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not that impressed with win over him. CB looked good though.
by dancingChicken on Mar 13, 2010 5:03 AM EST up reply actions
CB has never NOT looked good
Okay it was pretty miserable watching him leave limbs and necks out for the taking…but I don’t recall a single point in any fight where I would say with confidence “CB Dollaway is losing this fight” quite the contrary.
I find myself getting too defensive for this guy lol…I guess I’ll just leave it at that. War Doberman! ;p

I’m waiting to hear what Jay Glazer has to say. He’s been apart of ACS for a long time and has introduced athletes such as Matt Leinart to MMA style workouts. Not that he’s the bottom line to what is going on but he’s a knowledgeable resource that I feel trustworthy.

Funny
How Fight! magazine just had an article about ACS in their latest issue, and it listed 6 prominent fighters (Bader, Dollaway, Simpson, Condit, Varner and Steve Steinbeiss) and now 4 of those fighters have moved on
