What's Strikeforce?

How come they’re not UFC champions?

Strikefore, thats where Batista and John Cena fight right??

Just for a reference point someone should put up pictures of BJ Penn, GSP and Anderson, the real LW, WW and MW champs.

by Worldisart on Mar 10, 2010 8:28 PM EST reply actions

Thats a pimp ass picture. The ufc belts have always looked cheesy to me with the giant ufc in the front though. They should switch belts to have the better fighters and better belts sans Lesnar. Because Fedor > Lesnar of course. ;)

Those are some awesome champs.

You have to be the man... you have to be very, like, alpha male with her. You know? Decide what you do and everything. So, show her who's the boss, you know? - GSP

by pud333 on Mar 10, 2010 11:15 PM EST up reply actions

Oh I get it

because people still argue that he won.

It’s ok, I still argue that Penn beat GSP the first time. It doesn’t mean as much since he beat Penn’s ass the second time though. That’s what you have to look forward to when Machida beats Shogun’s ass in the second fight. ;)

Just poking a little fun. I don’t think there are many people referring to the Strikeforce champs as “kings” of the sport.

by Worldisart on Mar 10, 2010 8:31 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

Naw that’s true. And the Caesar Gracie camp are just asking for a good ribbing. Just wanted to say they are all pretty solid, and its a good camp.

I agree, solid camp, hopefully one day we’ll see how those three stack up against the best in the UFC.

by Worldisart on Mar 10, 2010 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

Just a joke.

I like Shields and Diaz a lot actually. Not sold on Melendez so much though…

by MauiPimpin on Mar 10, 2010 8:32 PM EST up reply actions

Sure all 3 are solid fighters but if all 3 were to go to the UFC tommrow shields is the one with the most potential out of the 3. But I still don’t see Shields beating the top fighters in the UFC’s WW devision like Fitch,Kos,Alves, etc,He would fit in the top 5 around 4 or 5. If they matched him up right like they did with Hardy I can see him getting enuff wins to get a shot at GSP. Gil on the other hand I can’t ever see being a contender in to the UFC’s LW devision. He would be solid but I see him being like a Tyson Griffen, Sean Sherk, etc I don’t see Gil beating any of the LW’s at the top of the devision in the UFC. If Diaz goes back to the UFC it will be the same old story as before his take down Def still sucks and a good wrestler with sud def will just maintian top control and ride out a decision against him every time. I still would like to See Shields and Gil especially in the UFC one day.

Seems like thats exactly whats happened, hlebtasic.

I love Strikefroce so much I pay to have Showtime. I buy it. But they are paper champs, that’s it. I just don’t watn to see them doing photo ops like they are the shit or something when the guys that are the REAL champs (who happen to be in the UFC) are head and shoulders above them.

by JimJoe on Mar 10, 2010 8:56 PM EST up reply actions

It didn't turn into a joke overnight

it was much more of a gradual process.

Agreed and it started with the signing of Fedor.

Am I crazy or is this quote wrong?
Shields quickly submitted the power puncher via armbar in just two minutes.

Seems like a weird mistake to make.

by asa on Mar 10, 2010 9:56 PM EST reply actions

all of 3 wouldn’t be champs in UFC. I dont think it is running strikeforce down stating the truth. Penn>Melendez GSP>shields Silva>Diaz

I think Diaz would have a shot at 185, at least moreso than anyone else in the division.

by Polyhedron on Mar 11, 2010 3:13 AM EST up reply actions

im a much bigger fan of Diaz than Silva but i think Silva would take the fight with ease.

Yeah, it wouldn’t be close. Silva isn’t the volume puncher that Diaz is, but he doesn’t have to be because his power is ridiculous. He’s fast and accurate, longer than Diaz, and Nick’s style leaves his chin wide open for someone with those attributes. It would be a short fight.

Also, Silva uses a little something called “head movement,” something Diaz’ recent opponents either forgot or never learned.

by Rahson on Mar 11, 2010 9:57 AM EST up reply actions

Diaz would get handled by most WW’s in the UFC, at MW a guy like Nate would smash him into little pieces.

Cesar Gracie academy is the shit

Hopefully one day Dana isn’t scared to let his champs defend against the SF champs and not against the Dan Hardy’s,Patrick Cote’s or Diego Sanchez’s.

It will be a sad day for Cesar Gracie and his fighters after Shields losses to Hendo, Melendez losses to Aoki, and Diaz eventually losses to Jay Heiron

by Fedorable on Mar 11, 2010 7:08 AM EST reply actions

Yep.

It’s unfortunate, but melendez will definitely lose to Aoki, and Shields to Hendo. These are just plain facts.

by Rocejize on Mar 11, 2010 8:27 AM EST up reply actions

Hmmm, I’m normally the first to argue that fighters outside of the UFC get overrated but I think all three of these guys could acquit themselves very well in the UFC. Melendez is like a well-rounded, uber-version of Clay Guida, I’d love to see him fight Florian or Edgar. Anyone expecting Henderson to knock Shields out straight away is going to be let down too, I’m leaning towards Hendo to take the fight but it won’t be a pushover.

I’m more of a nuthugger for Diaz than the other two Cesar fighters but he’s the toughest to rank of the three. He’s on a roll but he’s been in fights that are very favourable for him stylistically. I’m not sure how he’d fare against somebody like Koscheck or Alves but it’d be great to see.
