Snapshot of the Day: UFC Press Conference in Japan

At today’s press conference at Wald 9 in Shinjuku (Tokyo), it was announced that the UFC Charlotte event would air on TV Tokyo, the smallest of the free-to-air broadcast networks in Japan. In other words, UFC will not make much of a dent in the Japanese marketplace. TV Tokyo is a pay-for-play station. You bring the sponsors and pay for the time, you get it. The 3/31 show will air on TV Tokyo on 4/8 in a one-hour slot from 10 PM to 10:54 PM JST.More at fightopinion.com.
A taped video by Dana White was played at the press conference, saying that the three Japanese fighters (Gomi, Okami, and Uno) are "Japanese legend fighters." Which means those fighters will all fight in the top 3 slots on the card, right? Nope — Okami fights 3rd and Uno 4th, both dark matches in America.

The yahoo in the back seems pretty comfortable with the camera.

It’s from a comic book that one of the Japanese mags put out when UFC bought Pride.

TV tokyo being the smallest network station doesnt mean Zuffa wont make a dent… That’s like saying if Zuffa got on the WB network it wouldnt make a dent in the states which is ridiculous.
Nobody is expecting the UFC to be as big as pride was – just make enough inroads to tip the scales so to speak. Zuffa doesn’t need as good a TV deal or as many sponsors as Dream has to bust a cap in that ass. Unfortunately in order to gain mass appeal you’d have to change the UFC product to such an extent it would be detrimental to the whole so good enough will be good enough.
Of course they will make a dent, on TV Tokyo, paying for their slots. Sengoku didn’t even make anything out of it and they had more better known to the public names. But of course you know better cause you can show hom much you earn. Pretty pathetic.
Of course UFC, is the same as sengoku… UFC is a start up company which has no other revenues sources other then the sponsorships they sell on tv tokyo…. I mean it’s not like the UFC makes money on the same content from 100 different sources… but of course you dont realize Zuffa actually does generate revenue from many different sources FROM THE SAME CONTENT because you arent capable of thinking beyond 2+2. Instead you want to throw a little tantrum about my earnings. Pretty pathetic.
Agreed.
Frankly, having the ground troops to move into Japan could be a great reason to merge the UFC and WEC given the weight classes that are popular there.
See it may be just the weight classes that are popular`
But a larger than life guy like BrockLesnar would make a killing in Japan the same way that Boooooooooooooobbbusaaaaaaaaaappppppu did.
