UFC Primetime: St-Pierre vs. Hardy Live Discussion
UFC Primetime starts tonight on Spike at 10:00 PM EST. Join us for the part one and share your thoughts as the show unfolds.
[UPDATE] - UFC 111 sells out according to Dana White:

Dan Hardy takes us into his home in England to watch the some fight footage of fellow Brit, Michael Bisping.
Take a car ride with the Welterweight Champ as he talks Olympic Hockey and friendly bets.
What does it take to be the best 170 lb. fighter in the world? Apparently high five pushups, which are just some techniques included in this footage of Georges St-Pierre's workout.

"Royle Family" from wiki
The Royle Family is a popular, BAFTA award-winning1 television comedy drama produced by Granada Television for the BBC, which ran for three series between 1998 and 2000, with specials in 1999,2000,2006, 2008 and 2009.2 It is about the lives of a television fixated Manchester family, the Royles.
The series features simple production values and a stereotypical portrayal of state benefit dependent family life at the turn of the millennium. It, therefore, has something in common with kitchen sink drama. The scripts contain often banal conversations. Almost all of the episodes take place in the Royles’ home; most centre on the telly-centric living room.

Some people hate the English, I don’t. They’re just wankers. We, on the other hand, are colonized by wankers. We can’t even find a decent culture to be colonized by. We are ruled by effete arseholes. It’s a shite state of affairs to be in, Tommy! And all the fresh air in the world won’t make any fucking difference!

yeah the british colonized ass, but we kicked their bloody asses, and sent them home packing. ever since then we have been kicking their royal, whiny, wimpy asses, in pretty much evry sport, except soccer, which we dont give a shit about. dan hardy, and the rest of the girly man britsh fans, are in for a hell of a beating
I love little videos like this that provide a small window...
into a different culture. Not that different, but still.
Used to love a Japanese show called “Happy Family Plan” because of the day to day life in Japan that you got to catch a glimpse of.
that was boring to watch
i wanted to stop it but i kept thinking something interesting was going to happen, man i hope that isnt on the show cuz i will fast forward all of that crap.
Maybe Im a nerd Ive always enjoyed all of the Countdown shows with fighters I’m interested in. I want to know everything about them especially how their mind works. Hardy while not being the big matchup most people are looking for get an indepth psyche about an interesting character from Britain. I much prefer his bio over Bisbings.

"That's right I'm into hardcore crack, that's why my teeth are so bad"
To be fair, he’s fought GSP twice. However, I think this is more of a psychological dig that Hardy is pulling. Not going to work though.

If GSP hadn't moved,
The punch that hit him on the side/back of the head would’ve hit him in the jaw… Can we stop trying to brush that win off? We know GSP won the second time, but he did lose the first… stop being such a lame about it.
Plus, Serra at the very least can relate to Hardy’s situation, and may have some words of wisdom that can help… He has been in there with George twice, and got his black belt under Renzo, and he’s close to the venue… not a bad move at all really.
I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.

Okay first off
don’t talk to me like you know me homeboy unless you’re willing to get your wig split. Secondly I was really just using the opportunity to poke a little fun, I think the win was very much legitimate and one of the most fantastic upsets in the sport, and I’m actually a fan of Serra and rather indifferent to George. Now with that being said I really doubt there is indeed much information that can be exchanged between the two or really anything that he can tell Hardy that will benifit him all that much come fight time.
Now back to the issue at hand, see I don’t like anyone giving me lip unless they one of my bitches in my whip, and the last time I checked you ain’t down on your knees so one of my bitches you ain’t. So next time consider the consequences for your actions, speak when spoken to, and watch your tone of voice otherwise said wig splitting will indeed occur.

you idiot, yeah gsp lost to serra the first time, but its only the most recent fight against serra that counts, because we know what happened there. GSP has only lost two fights in his life, and both were brutally avenged, how many fighters can say that . You and other idiots keep bringing up, the serra fight as what could happen again, buts its irrelevant, because gsp evolved from that. when serra even tried to punch him last time, GSP avoided the punches like they were coming in slow motion and took him down and raped him, same thing will happen to hardy. BJ penn and alves have 10x the standup, or power of hardy, but they didnt come close to even touching gsps face

That's what I thought before the Kampmann fight
I thought “Hitman” would test out the stand-up, feel the power, and take Semtex to the ground…
The way Daley whips that hook is just sick. Looks like an Alves legkick with all that torque…
not at all
Pretty much all of the fighters talk themselves up; that’s fine. But there’s a line between confidence and BS. Then again, Hardy may actually be delusional and think he’s the dominant male WW…
The funny thing is how over hyped they are making his striking out to be. Since coming to the bigs hardy has only 1 KO’s and 3 decisions. No doubt he has good striking but he is no near the striker alves is imo. And just a side note this is hardys first fight in the states since 2006. And he lost every time he has fought in the USA.
Well, they have to pick something and run with it. I think they did an overall good job on the show of hyping things. If I hadn’t seen Hardy fight before, I’d probably believe the hype. Gonna have a UFC party at my place for this one, and most of the people coming have never seen Hardy fight, and if they did, probably don’t remember him.

Alves muay thai and Hardy’s boxing are two different things. Hardy is a counterstriker who has done extensive training with Freddie Roach on his hands. They are two different kinds of strikers. Doesn’t make a difference when you’re on your back, but you know.

Ehh, Hardy has a different style that could make him more interesting a more interesting matchup then Alves. One of the main things being he doesn’t rely on leg kicks as much, but Alves’ striking is elite. Hardy is good, but Alves is great.
The man known simply as "Christmas Cheesesteak"
by Neil Manich on Mar 10, 2010 10:54 PM EST up reply actions
Alves doesn’t have the reach, though. He wasn’t able to do anything from the outside and was afraid to close the distance. Maybe Hardy will have some success in using his jab…
by dancingChicken on Mar 11, 2010 4:29 AM EST up reply actions
Alves could negotiate the distance better with his kicks however, which can negate some of the punching reach disadvantage. Hardy doesn’t have that weapon. And Alves was not afraid to close the distance. I’ve rewatched that fight several times recently, and Thiago pressed the action. GSP is just technically very sound, and has great movement and quickness. He’s not going to just stand in front of you.
Kicks leave openings for a takedowns, that’s why he didn’t kick so much. Pressing the action is one thing, getting inside and work from there is another.
And yes, Hardy doesn’t have “that weapon”, that’s why I mentioned his jab.
by dancingChicken on Mar 11, 2010 11:39 AM EST up reply actions
I understand why you mentioned Hardy’s jab, but it wasn’t correct to say that Alves couldn’t do anything from the outside or was afraid to close the distance. His kicks allowed him to attack GSP despite a reach disadvantage in his punches, and Alves did try to pressure GSP throughout the fight, giving a very good account of himself. GSP was just too skilled and prepared. Hardy isn’t brining in any physical attributes Alves didn’t have, nor is he bringing in a “fearless” attitude that Alves didn’t have.
In fact, I find it absurd that Hardy would claim that GSP’s opponents showed him too much respect and were beaten before the fight began. That certainly wasn’t the case for Penn, Alves, Fitch, Serra, Hughes, etc. Those guys all have very good mental games.
by Hardcharger on Mar 11, 2010 12:09 PM EST up reply actions
He threw few kicks. GSP was kicking more often (more leg kicks, more body kicks).
Alves got outstruck, GSP landed 22 strikes to the head, Alves only 6. That’s what happens when you can’t do much from the distance and can’t do much from the inside.
I’m not saying that Alves was terrified to close the distance, but he knew that it’ll probably end up with him being taken down if he wont cautious.
And of course GSP was using his skills to keep him at bay.
Hardy has better reach than Alves and if his fight with GSP will go to the distance, I’m pretty sure that he’ll land more than 6 strike to the head.
by dancingChicken on Mar 11, 2010 1:39 PM EST up reply actions
So Alves really wasn’t afraid to close the distance like originally stated, and didn’t land punches to the head because GSP was too quick, evasive, and well-schooled. Your conclusion from this is merely a prediction, and really based on nothing concrete (no offense to you). Maybe Hardy would land more than 6 punches to the face. Maybe not. Either way, I don’t see a failure of gameplanning from Alves or physical superiority of Hardy that will make this matchup tougher for GSP than the UFC 100 fight. JMO.
It was probably bad choice of words, I’m not English native speaker, and apparently my intention didn’t translate well. Language barrier, what can I say…
However, there were more variables than just GSP technical skills that decided of the outcome of the stand up part of the fight. 6 inch reach advantage makes difference, whether we like it or not.
And of course my prediction is based on nothing concrete, it doesn’t have to. It’s not scientific investigation.
As I stated in my original comment: MAYBE Hardy will have some success in using his jab. I’m not saying he will be tougher match up than Alves. I think GSP will crush Hardy like a bug, but I also acknowledge that the Englishman has some tools.
PS. We probably agree more or less, but fail to communicate. Charm of the Internet….
