would have watched it...
but I have F*&^king DirecTV
I wonder if this shakes the foundation for the ppv? Look at how far its down from faber vs. pulver. It seems like having champions with some longevity adds to the drawing power, if the divisions are constantly revolving doors people have no face to be consistently interested with.
i think its taken a big hit due to lack of DirecTv viewers
I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.
It shows two things in my opinion
1. DirectTV not having it affected the ratings.
2. It shows the drawing power of Bowles who hasn’t fought in 9 months.
It also is nice to see that Ben Henderson, Aldo, Cerrone, and Faber have a draw which makes me optomistic for the PPV.

While not the best, they have a nice competitive trio of fighters at the top of their 155 division in Henderson, Cerrone and Varner. Still lots of fights left between those three.
Oh I'm not even talking matchups
I’m saying that if you look at the ratings, their top guy is Faber. But at the same time their baseline ratings it seems on VS is now 330,000 which isn’t bad for the network. Cards with Faber though do well and when you look at the rating for the 46 which had Bendo/Cerone/Faber it was as success. A card of Faber/Aldo and Cerone/Bendo should do 75k ppv with 150k being the top. They are lucky that the production cost for the WEC isn’t too bad and the salary costs aren’t super high. If they can do the 75k it’ll be a sucess.

That’s why a strong brand is so important.

This shouldn't be that surprising
Bowles and Cruz weren’t really that popular. The biggest draw on the card was Torres, and obviously he’s not as big as Urijah. Jens has probably lost a lot of his drawing power from losing so often lately. From a sheer business perspective this was there worst card for a long time. It was still pretty great though.
The man known simply as "Christmas Cheesesteak"
this might be good news for us direstv customers
If the rating were low, that means sponsers will not want to place ads on verus as much, so they may back off of there origianl demands to directv.I have directv and i do not blame them for giving in to comcast demands.Besides it goes further than this, comcast is pissed of all the business they lose to directv everyday,.I used to install sattleites for directv and half of the city now owns a dish . Before the dish companies came along the cable companies had a monopoly.
Extremely doubtful...
Since last I heard on here the primary dispute was about DTV wanting to put Versus on a different tier which would limit the subscriber base.
Why would getting a “bad” viewer number make anyone take a deal that would limit potential viewers?

I hear u but there beef goes back a long way
Im sure they dont get along to good at the bargianing table. And i am sure comcast tought they could get alot of there customers back , And im sure alof of people did gave up directv and went bxck to cable.
Just my perception but they didn’t create enough talk or buzz for this event. My buddy who hasn’t missed a PPV or any televised MMA show in years called me the day of the fight and said he forgot it was even on. By that time he had committed to something else and couldn’t watch it.
I wish they could run a WEC event on Spike with some good promotion to see what kind of numbers it would get on there. At this point I have doubts about Versus ability to reach viewers effectively.
Just BE.
I’m sure those numbers are comforting to see 1 month before their landmark PPV..errr..
Wow, the execs must be shitting themselves right now.
is it wrong for me to not give a damn about 135? I feel like their too small, yet I love 145… Whats wrong with this pciture?
I could be wrong ,but here it goes. I think the more someone perceives the chance of them winning a fight with a profighter. the less inclined they will to watch them. Little guys really gotta look like killers to beat that. Maybe??

i don’t think it’s a unconscious ‘rule’ for everyone but i can see some truth to that…

I said something very similar the other day.
People lke their fighters to be big, scary guys who they know could beat them up. Urijah looks like a Sophomore at UCSD but took out 12 Balinese dudes and Miguel looks too thin to be the ass-beating machine that he is.

I happen to know that thousands of the WEC target demographic were drunkkkkkkk off their asses at early St patricks day festivities in NY and Philadelphia on the 6th.
I was passed out by 7pm.
Leave it to the Irish to be to drunk to watch TV……. I am Irish and Polish.

It supposed to be lolcat speak
Think on the lines of I can haz cheesburger. Or how’s taste my tweet, tweet.
It's a shame.
Aside from delivering quality fights with some of the best fighters in the world (which should be enough, right?) the WEC doesn’t do much to garner attention or buzz like the other organization. They don’t have too many big name draws nor do they have people like Frank Mir or a BJ Penn who are willing to shit talk and sell their fights. They’re very consistent, but to the average viewer they’ve got no major hooks. If organizations were based on the quality of fights alone the WEC would be much, much bigger. The PPV move looks a little iffy now, especially when the world is on a brink of an economic meltdown not seen since the depression. I’ll buy it, but I’m not expecting a ton of other people like me to do the same.
I know it’s been talked to death but I would really love it if the WEC merged into the UFC. All of these incredible fights fewer and fewer people are watching would instantly get way, way more attention than they currently are. I don’t know, something needs to happen. First thing they can do is hope Versus fixes their shit with DirecTV.
DOES ANYONE KNOW...
If Reed Harris has the same deal for the WEC and Hooters/BWW/Champps sports bars where they are contracted to purchase the PPVs like how the UFC does???
This would automatically make the WEC PPV a success…
Also, with the Direct TV deal, the PPV would work out much better….
Second-smallest audience in two years
That’s too bad. It was a hell of a card. I thought all the fights would be good on paper, and it more than delivered.

couple things: when fabers not on the card they lose a ton of viewers, Dtv subs are also a big loss, and as was mentioned before, with all the talk about the upcoming ppv, I almost forgot about this event as well.
