Jamie Varner says "Ben Henderson fought like a girl, he got lucky":

"I thought I was putting all the pressure on the fight. Ben was running away a lot. I felt Ben fought scared, he fought not to lose, and I don't think he was really fighting to win," said Varner. "I just gave him an opportunity. I served him my neck up on a silver platter."

"That year off made me hungry. Even though I lost and I'm really disappointed, and I was really disappointed even a few days after the fight. I was like I never want to fight again, this sucks, Ben fought like a girl, he got lucky, and I was so angry and making excuses, but honestly looking back on it, I've had time to take a breath and relax and really reflect on the fight, and I had a lot of fun," Varner said.

Ask Sylvia where that gets you.

Its a motivational term. Not uncommon in wrestling rooms. He is kidding himself.

Some people think I am a dumb, ugly human being, but really I am a beautiful ape, with exceptional verbal skills.

BJ Penn fights to win
Tim Sylvia fights not to lose.

I didn’t think my dislike for Varner could grow but he just proved me wrong.

agreed on that. I hope the prince of persia knocks jamie’s head back to the cowboy fight, so cowboy can knee him in the face again and knock him back into getting knocked out by shalorus, and just start a vicious, neverending cycle of getting kneed in the face or knocked out viciously.

Everytime he opens his mouth my hate for him goes through the roof. He’s a good fighter, but an amazing douche.

by Shatto1 on Mar 1, 2010 3:29 PM EST up reply actions

Never forget...

this is the kind of douchebag that Varner is (openly mocking a guy he just put to sleep):

then he goes and says this shit and ducks out on cowboy.

by Riley_96 on Mar 1, 2010 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

Varner's an idiot.

He obviously fought to win, because he did. He picked his spot and choked you out because you left an opening and he capitalized on it. THAT IS THE ESSENCE OF THE FIGHT GAME YOU MORON.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

by lowellthehammer on Mar 1, 2010 2:18 PM EST reply actions

Why does he have to sound like such a jerk here

He’s not really saying anything fighters haven’t said before. He was winning and then he got caught. That’s his main point, and its true. That’s what Chuck said after Rashad and it wasn’t a huge deal. But then he has to completely insult Henderson. That is completely classless.

Submissions = fighting like a girl. Got it.

he wonders why he gets booed every fight.

by Austin Martin on Mar 1, 2010 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

I wonder how he classifies the type of fighting that serves your opponent your neck on a silver platter? Fighting like a total Moron? Fighting like someone who has no strategy? Fighting like someone that wants to get submitted?

by Dooda on Mar 1, 2010 2:33 PM EST reply actions

Kamal will NOT fight like a girl, so I wonder what his excuse will be if he loses that fight.

Being overrated is overrated.

by bobby g on Mar 1, 2010 2:42 PM EST reply actions

Herpes flare up. Cracked skull, monthly visitor, the sun was in his eyes, other. I will ignore his excuses. A lot of times there is a reason why a fighter loses a fight, or at least a contributing factor. Varner has used up all his excuse credits in my eyes. Now he is just whining. Henderson beat him. Now he calls him a girl, well, you got beat by that girl.

I don't believe in stereotypes but......

I do believe in statistics and 95% of the wrestlers in mma act like such assholes.imho. is just me? Do others feel this way?

by Rayce. on Mar 1, 2010 2:53 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Rayce I couldnt agree more

If you think of all of the fighters that are “heels” or just down right tools….most of them have an extensive wrestling backround….

by longevity on Mar 1, 2010 3:11 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I would say 9 out of 10 times if there is a known wrestler fighting…I am hoping for them to be visciously ko’d..they also make for some of the most boring fights….of course there are exceptions though

by szucconi on Mar 1, 2010 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

nahhh

most wrestlers usually complain cause they didn’t tire their opponent out enough. or they didn’t hold them long enough before they fell asleep. definitely always complaining about something.

by Rocejize on Mar 1, 2010 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not defending it

But a lot of people who engage in any type of athletics, especially any where displays of aggression aren’t only encouraged, but necessary for success, are like that.

You’ve gotta have a bravado. Gotta have some confidence. Some people just display it differently.

I’ve met more MMA fighters, pro and amateur, that are complete assholes, than ones that are not.

?

Um, ok. Wow, it never gets old when a person is wrong, but they will make up excuse after excuse, beacuse they want to look right (or tough). You lost, get over it, and get over yourself.

by JustinWF on Mar 1, 2010 3:03 PM EST reply actions

So......

He lost to a guy fighting like a girl? What does that say about him?

by xfreekx on Mar 1, 2010 3:17 PM EST reply actions

It is funny because this comment is him trying to save face from his post-fight antics, along the lines of “I was wrong when hotheaded, but now I think it was a fun match.” But he made himself look even worse in process.

by William Wilson on Mar 1, 2010 3:56 PM EST reply actions

This reminds me that when the twitter storm happened after UFC 104, the two saying “Muay Thai > karate” as a result of the main event were Varner and Tiki Ghosn.

Last I checked, Shogun didn’t “win” because of Muay Thai, he won because he played the game instead of losing his damn mind or having a bitch attitude… (Let’s ignore the “Joinha” wah-wah.)

by Chortles on Mar 1, 2010 5:29 PM EST reply actions

Whata beyatch

WTF is the Worm even talking about??? Varner tapped standing up to a jumping guillotine. Didn’t try to slam Henderson, didn’t go to sleep. Immediately tapped…standing up! Now he wants to talk about how he’s a tough guy. Dude is a total tool. Cowboy had Henderson’s limbs contorted all kinds of ways in their fight and he never tapped. Reality is Henderson has the heart of a warrior and Varner is a little worm-man.

by MMAmadman on Mar 1, 2010 11:14 PM EST reply actions

Funny thing is he went for a guillotine on Henderson who didn’t tap even though it was deep on the other hand the moment Hendo locks one in on Varner he’s tapping what a loser.
