Erin Toughill Talks Cris Cyborg - "I'm Going To Win in a Decisive Fashion"

"I have been talking to a lot of people who are very reliable and I know that I will get a warm up fight before Cyborg. Ironically she passed me by the hall tonight and it was very interesting, I don't want to comment more than that."

"I know that it's a fight that I'm going to win, I know that it's a fight that I can win and when the opportunity is given to me I'm going to win in a decisive fashion. Gina, she did great things for the sport. Cyborg has beaten her and has done great things for the sport and there will be somebody after her and that's going to be me."

"I've been waiting for a long time. Longer than both Gina and Cyborg combined… so I've paid my dues and I'm ready."

She’s focused and determined. Hopefully it will be a solid fight.

I hope Cyborg crushes her now.

Not sure why, but she put me off in this interview.

She seems like she is taking the Chael Sonnen route to relevance.

Is that her yes-man or her husband I can’t tell.

Erin is biggest fighter Cyborg is going to face.

Plus she was a pretty decent pro who boxer had a good fight against Laila Ali. Cyborg doesnt seem to have much of a ground game and if the fight stays standing and I think it will. Erin should have a good shot at pulling the upset, IMO.

by TLAoutlaw on Feb 9, 2010 10:02 PM EST reply actions

It won’t really be an upset, imo. Erin has been in the fighting business longer than Marloes and Gina. Erin has the experience and she is bigger than Cyborg, that means that Cyborg won’t be throwing her around like she did with Marloes and Gina. However, there is the “IT” factor that is going to come into play. Erin hasn’t fought decent competition in a long time and her last fight was almost a year ago. Gina made the mistake of taking the fight with Cyborg coming off of a long break and look what happened to her.

Cyborg has no ground game? Didn’t she get third place at abu dhabi last year? Or does that not mean anything? Just because she hasn’t subbed anyone doesn’t mean she can’t roll.

Neil Melanson is one lucky bastard!

I think Toughhill has a great shot at beating Cyborg

You Heard it here first..

Cyborg will get KO’d with her sloppy dropping her hands boxing. If you think Cyborg will tear through her, than you need to look her fights up.

Im not sure there's a chick who can knock Cyborg out.

I saw what you mean about dropping her hands vs. Coenen. But Cyborg ate some missles, and they didnt even phase her. That chick has got a chin like Fedor.

Maybe Coenen has hands like Velasquez?

Gina has power in her hands, Erin even said so herself. Gina’s punch didn’t even phase the borg even when she put all that weight into that shot.

by MMAGuard on Feb 10, 2010 7:45 AM EST up reply actions

Flying strikes like a Superman punch are hardly known for their power. You can’t generate the same kind of power with a leaping strike that you can generate with a strike from firmly anchored base.

Erin has only ever lost ...

due to being DQ’d for an elbow and getting sat on by someone who weight 2x as much as her. A lot of what makes Cyborg tough is her size. Erin makes Cyborg look like pee wee herman.

Longer than both Gina and Cyborg combined… so I've paid my dues and I'm ready.

This pro-wrestling mindset sounds odd in MMA. Either you can defeat the current crop of fighters or not.
