Fantasy Light Heavyweight Tournament Quarterfinal #1

Now we are gonna start getting into some very interesting matchups... first up is the current UFC LHW Champion Lyoto Machida vs the former UFC LHW Champion Forrest Griffin.  Neither is really known for finishing their opponents, but both have had great success nonetheless.  Machida has recently shown he has knockout power, just ask Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva.  Forrest has shown his leg kicks are as lethal as any in MMA, just ask Rampage or Shogun.  Both fighters have very underrated ground games as well.  So will Machida explode with a flurry of strikes like he did on Rashad and knock Forrest out?  Will Forrest be able to kick and knee his way to victory like he did vs Rampage and Shogun did vs Machida (arguably)?  Or would someone show an advantage on the ground?  You tell me!

Coin Flip

To me it’s a coin flip because Lyoto has an unorthodox fighting style (that Shogun exploited) and Forrest is crazy. I voted Forrest because Shogun exploited Lyoto’s weakness, and I think Forrest can do it (after all, he did choke out Shogun) Machida will win, but I would take Forrest though via decision

Now I know how Forrest got the one vote.

And he thought Silva could strike...

I see Machida knockin out Forrest in the first… He’s getting more aggressive and that spells doom for Forrest in my book

If Forrest doesn't get KO'd in the 2nd

He’ll be outpointed via getting picked apart in methodical and embarrassing fashion.

There are a lot of fights that Forrest can win at 205.

This is not one of them. Give him Thiago Silva, Luiz Cane, Brandon Vera, rematch Jardine, be the top 10 gatekeeper for John Jones, or even a welcoming party for Mousasi if he signs. Black House fighters are the worst possible fights for him.

I would love to see him fight Jardine

but he loses to Jones or Mousasi IMO

As much as I love forrest

he doesn’t have any chance at beating Machida.

Voted with my heart.

Griffin could win this. Not probable, but possible. Because Spider did that above, everyone forgets that this guy beat shogun and rampage, two legit top 10 guys.

Forrest is a hoss

but Machida would clown on him. Lyoto is wayyyyyy too fast, and would just dunk Forrest the second he overextended himself as he did against Anderson.

Also, I don’t think that Griffin is fast enough to execute Shogun’s gameplan; Rua has much faster kicks than Forrest, and throws with more power as well. Honestly, in Forrest’s last fight with Tito, he looked like he was sparring; absolutely no real power behind any of the numerous strikes he was landing at will.
