Dan Severn Talks Herschel Walker, Says There's a Market For a Master's Division
"I was just waiting to turn 37 years of age when I first started off, but at age 51, I'm still climbing into cages. So I actually think that some where in say the next 3 to 5 years, you will see that there is this niche there, that if they were to do a master's division, of 40 plus year old guys going against other 40 plus year old guys. That look's like a very competitive match to do something along those lines and will bring a whole new demographic to the mixed martial arts world."HT: 1wrestling.com
"It's very competitive looking, I wouldn't make that as your main event but put that as maybe third or second to last match for the night and honor these guys but I think there is a market definitely for it."
"I would love to welcome Herschel Walker to the MMA world, ...but I hope he’ll take it easy on me."

Awkward silence at the end.
I’ve always liked Dan Severn, but I don’t think there’s going to be a niche for a “Masters League”. Most Fighters in there twilight years are shot. Completely. Dan’s playing it smart fighting low level fighters, and I commend him for being able to fight at all at this point in his life. Just don’t think there will be a market for this. Too many of MMA’s “Master League” candidates have gone the way of Mark Kerr, or just don’t want to fight anymore.

Tell that to the UFC
I hear Randy Couture gets the winner of Renzo/Hughes. If he wins, he gets 4 more title shots.
BOOSH
Keyword being most
There are exceptions to the rule. Randy and Matt are like UFC Royalty and Renzo was instrumental with the whole Abu Dhabi deal.

even the interviewer is a senior. I wouldn’t be against these guys fighting other people in their senior years, Dan Severn vs Mark Coleman! if they need the money we shouldn’t be against it, they are the ones who paved the way for MMA to be where it is today, they definitely deserve our respect!

I watched TUF 10 till the end, I can watch skilled but old guys going at it. Then it’s just a matter of safety.
"You hit too hard, too hard, too hard..."
yeah, if these guys are getting medically cleared to fight, then what’s the harm in them scratching the competitive itch? not sure it’ll ever happen in the ufc, but they should have a venue, that doesn’t require fighting in tiny shows, for considerably less money. gotta wonder how much of audience there’d be for it though.

Someone needs to tell him
That YAMMA already tried this with their “Masters” division and it didn’t go over so well
"For some reason Dana White doesn't like me, and I don't care enough to find out why. So he can go pound sand up his ass as far as I'm concerned."

it’s a nice way of attempting to legitimize the senior’s club as something other than milking dollars out of stars past their prime.

really?
so now when kids say my dad could kick ur dads ass severn wants a place where the dads can legally beat the shit outta each other?
If there was a "Master's" division Rnady Courture would be champion.
"And shepherds we shall be, for thee my Lord for thee, Power hath descended forth from thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command, we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In nomine patris, et filii...et spiritus sancti."
I don’t know that the UFC needs a consistent senior circuit, but I do think that if old hands want to keep fighting, having them fight each other is pretty reasonable way to go about doing it.
It bears noting that athletes often retain a high degree of marketability and fan interest well after their actual skills have begun to decline. I don’t know how channeling such popular interest into fights between two declining fighters can be any worse than having them get run over by good opposition or carry on against low level opponents.
