I’m most happy with the decision to assign individual moves rather than bulk bull shitterry tags like “Boxer/wrestler” or “kickboxing/judo”

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

Drag-and-drop system for placing sponsorships and tattoos, no more extensive menu navigation

Thank you, THQ and all of the fans that made their voices heard. The menu navigation was so painfully boring.

See what happens when your share of the market gets threatened? Everybody wins.

Uh, typically you actually have to see a competing product and how it does before your market is “threatened”.
You’re also assuming that THQ was not going to listen to the 3.5 million sales (and their consumers) on ideas that would make the game better.

by pr0cs on Feb 9, 2010 8:51 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

    exactly...

I’m sure THQ is paying attention, but I don’t think the changes have as much to do with EA as it they have to do with Undisputed being the game that saved them from drowning (i’ve read that on here, but am not well-informed on the gaming industry), and being wanting to capitalize on what has already been a success.

I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
    lol.

I’m with this. THQ has plenty of reasons to make their product better regardless of competition. Making a successful selling video game better gives it a good shot at out selling the previous version. Especially since it appears they listened to customer feedback very well.

    Just BE.

If you don’t think THQ noticed the excitement surrounding EA’s MMA game, then you’re out to lunch. Without question, it put pressure on THQ to go above and beyond to improve their product. Sure, complaints from their customers played a role. But this type of response is hardly ever the case when you have a monopoly in your corner of the market.

You seem to have THQ confused with EA!

Since they’re the ones that release the same Madden every year and call it a new game.

    Get rid of the ramp!

EA has a monopoly on NFL licensed games. No one cares about anything football related that doesn’t have the NFL/NCAA logo stamped on it. They have been under no outside pressure to make drastic improvements to their brand over the past however many years. A tweak here and there, a new camera angle, sharper graphics, etc. That’s all you get every year with the Madden turds.

Football games were evolving at a much faster rate, EA’s included, when there was competition with EA, 2K Games, Sega, and whoever else each year.

    Beautiful!

Back when I UFC 09 was my crack, I was on their forums and created THE suggestion thread that was stickied and I believe is the biggest thread in the history of their site. I stopped adding suggestions when we got to like 100, well thought out ideas, and I can say that the list above reflects a lot of what the community over there put together. Of course, much of these changes are just common sense, and would have happened anyways, but it’s nice to know that THQ was checking up on us (not just saying that, I was actually contacted) and took action quickly for this years game.

I’d honestly rate 2009 a 6.5 out of 10, and many others would have, had the game not been so damn fun! Now, THQ and Yukes will be really making some progress, having their basic ideas down, and being able to put in attention to detail, and righting past wrongs.

I think one of the biggest things to note is that there will be fighter “relationships” thats something that came as a bit of a shock to me, as if this is done poorly, it’s extremely lame.

It’s weird, it was working a while ago, and it doesn’t seem to work now. I tried the other embed code and it doesn’t seem to work.

Yeah sort of a "watch your own card" thing.

Hell, even a “watch the card” while you wait for your own fight on said card!

The Seattle Times linked to my website in June 2009. I wasn't aware of this until January 2010.

    Yes

this adds to the replayability of the game big time… I got 2009 the night it came out and was done with it after a couple months. No depth at all… CPU vs CPU would help a ton!!!!!

when is this game going to be released?
really looking forward to it, and to what EA has to offer, hopefully it will be similiar to FNR4 in the standup game!

    May 25.

I hope it isn’t, cause there won’t be any kicks. ;P

ea NMR is just like fnr4 in standup, I love the analog stick striking, took some time to get used to it though. the wal they are gonna do it is you use the left trigger as a kick modifier.

Ability to fight orthodox, southpaw, or switch and assign a dominate power hand

…this is a great addition, I wonder if you can switch stances on the fly ala Silva, Evans.

    you can

just by pushing the right analog stick, you switch… in the video, you see Anderson doing it

by PHISH NATION on Feb 9, 2010 11:24 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The camp, custom fighter feature is the most important… if this game can remain viral and evergreen like starcraft then this will be even more impact full than anticipated.

3 million plus sales is uber good… but if it’s only played for 2 weeks or a month or even 3 months then the impact is limited… if this damn game can become part of a million or so lives interconnected for a few years it will be crazy.

If a player can get true buy in for the long haul then watch out… Shit just got real.

You haven’t made it in the video game business unless a chinese kid dies playing your game.
