Comcast really needs to carry HDNet
First MMA event I ever went to was a KOTC event a guy I used to hang out with was fighting in back in 2000. On the same card was Rampage vs Eastman, and Bang Ludwig.

Rampage/Eastman was a classic...
it didn’t age all that well (looks sloppy and I always get caught up staring at Rampage’s socks) but in it’s day it was solid.

Petition to get Tony Lopez and Tyler East thumbnailed
Lopez is probably entering his career downswing (unfortunately considering he’s rather well rounded, if not exactly dominant) and East will be a force if he ever learns the value of energy conservation. Hey, that “green” comment worked on two levels…
Would be interesting to see if Bellator swoops up Cullum after this fight. WIlson Reis rematch, anyone?

@deowade
In the name of all that is holy, PLEASE let Travis Wiuff kick Mike Kyle’s ass.
I recently got done watching all of the old WEC events via torrent and got to relive every cheapshot and unsportsmanlike dick move that guy made in his time with the promotion. Strikeforce and KOTC should be ashamed of themselves for giving him a job.
Something needs to be done
about calling the champ of any organization the World Champion. KOTC Heavyweight World Title Fight? LOL.
No, not WAMMA. Just everyone accept that no one organization has “World Champions.”
Use all ten points.
It’s not like they’re saying the MMA World Champion, as far as KOTC is concerned the winner is THEIR world champion.

so
call it KOTC Heavyweight champion. No big deal, but it cracks me up that they keep saying “world.”
If I win a poker tournament in my living room, I’m not World Poker Champion of My Living Room. I’m, at best, Champion of My Living Room.
Etc.
Use all ten points.
but if you win a $10,000 tournament at the Rio you are the world champion, same as if you win a $25,000 tournament at the bellagio.
Everyone has their own world champion, it’s how the world works.
3 things (I swear I’m not actually passionate about this topic, but anyway)
-I could see some legitimacy to a $25,000 poker tournament because that would probably be the biggest tournament in the world. KOTC is not on that level.
- I think it makes them look worse to say it’s a World title when it’s clearly not than to just admit what it actually is: the title of their (in this case relatively small) promotion.
-you’re right that it’s the way of the world. I just find it funny.
Use all ten points.
KOTC has done over 175 events in at least 5 different countries. Why are they not qualified to have World Champions?
by George Lucas on Feb 13, 2010 5:08 AM EST up reply actions
They can.
They can do whatever they want. As Phildo said, World Champion doesn’t have much meaning in sports. I just find it funny because, and maybe this is only me, I think World Champion should mean that the competition involves most of, if not all, of the best in the world. KOTC has, as far as I can tell zero top ten fighters (perhaps they do in lighter weight classes? Still not a majority of top talent in any division). So I think that by saying World Champion, it highlights the fact that their competition level is not World class.
I think it’s a little disputable for any organization to use the term (though the UFC has a couple weight classes almost completely dominated), but more absurd when relatively small promotions use it. That’s all.
I wish there was more to say about the fights.
Use all ten points.
Clementi got absolutely manhandled...
What the fuck happened to his guard pass defense? I mean, it was flat out non-existent. He must have let himself go.

Mulhern was definitely impressive
But Rich letting him pass like that.. thought he was a bit better than that. Maybe I’ve been ignorant in how decent I thought Rich’s jiu-jitsu was. Solid win, we’ll see more of Mulhern in a bigger org.

Despite what joe rogan says, apparently the Olympics can stop the internet, and they may be putting a damper on how people who have been deemed unworthy of getting HDnet by the cable overlords

Might want to change the main post to "Mike Kyle vs. Travis Wiuff"
Definitely isn’t a welterweight putting the whooping on Wiuff.

Nate, I gotta disagree,
It don’t think Kyle was taunting Travis at all….
When the fight started, I remembered Kyle as that douchebag that ended Brian Olsen’s career and was hoping for him to get demolished. Over the course of the fight, he displayed a very composed fight game, and he showed a lot of sportsmanship at the end of the fight. When Travis thought it was over at the 10 second warning and tried to shake Kyle’s hand and he didn’t attack him even though he could have easily gotten in a solid punch that would have put him to sleep.
As for the ending, i watched it over and over, and Kyle’s last punch lands before the last echos of the bell. I definitely think it was legal (although super close) and he deserved the win. And I think what you saw as Kyle taunting Wiuff was actually directed at Herb Dean, trying to plead his case that the shot was legal, or at the very least unintentionally thrown and not with a cheap shot in mind. His actions after the fight was over are what stood out most to me though. bunch of kisses, multiple hugs and sincere bowing were actions I didn’t think I would see from him, and it was really cool to see. He showed true respect to Travis and seemed genuinely humbled and that’s what we want to see when watching professional athletes compete.
While his actions against Olsen should never be forgotten, he seems to be on the right track. Of all people, I never thought I would be writing this about Mike Pyle.
Congratulations universe. You win.

To my eye
it looked like Wiuff’s punch landed at the bell and Kyle’s was thrown after it.
I’m 90% sure it was accidental. So what was the official decision based on? It seemed like they would have let it continue into a third round if Wiuff was able to go. If that’s the case, they must have ruled that the punch was after the bell and accidental. Otherwise, he would have been knocked out (not doctor’s stoppage) or Kyle would have been DQ’d.
I agree that Kyle was not taunting Wiuff, but I thought he was signaling to an official (perhaps the bell-ringer) outside the cage.
Use all ten points.
