With overeem I’ll believe it when I see it.

And a hw title fight in may??? Who could it be?

Rogers vs. Overeem

by MMAGuard on Feb 4, 2010 9:05 AM EST up reply actions

How do you give Rogers the title shot coming off a loss to Fedor? It won’t be Rogers. They really don’t have anyone for him to fight; everyone credible is booked or coming off a loss.

agreed

their only two contenders will be fighting in April, they don’t have anyone for Overeem unless they sign someone new to feed him.

Monson.

He’s a good name and not particularly dangerous. He can be handily outstruck and Overeem’s ground game is too good to get Monson’d.*

Blah…I’d much rather see Rogers/Overeem than Monson/Overeem.

Plus the winner can fight Fedor and you’ve got a rematch where you overstate the danger that Rogers had Fedor in, or a fresh match between the champ and the best in the world.

Monson is just an unnecessary wrench.

Of course he is.

But this plays into Coker’s public plans much better. He said he wanted one domestic fight for Alistair to [re]introduce him to the US base and the casual fans, then use that to hype a fight between him and Fedor on PPV at the end of the year. This way Fedor gets his April fight, Overeem gets a May fight, they each do their Sambo/K1 during the long layoff, and return for a PPV.

Quite frankly, I’d welcome an Overeem vs. Monson fight at this point. It’s way more interesting than Fujita, Thompson, and that guy from the Golden Glory event/pat on the back. And boy does that tell you something…

There is a strong argument to make for Rogers/Overeem. It was the fight that was supposed to happen in June of 2009. Coker could make the case that he isn’t keeping Fedor from Overeem, but giving Brett the fight for the title he was promised last year.

Scott Coker

Told me at the Chicago show Overeem would fight early this year. Now they are saying May. Is it likely, at this point, that he is really fighting for Strikeforce again?

by JonathanSnowden on Feb 4, 2010 9:16 AM EST reply actions

Honestly, if the problem is ‘roids and testing (I’m not saying it is, I don’t know) he could cycle them out and test clean by May.

But if the problem’s money, you might be right… I’m sure Dream/K1 pay better than Strikeforce.

Yea, I don’t know why anyone would take this new statement seriously. Both Coker and Overeem’s camp have been pushing the date back every time they open their mouth.

First it was early 2010, then first quarter 2010, then april, now may. They really just need to stop talking about when he’s coming back until a fight is booked and signed. All this “he will be back x” just serves to aggravate people.

Well considering he got melted by both fedor and rogers, that doesn’t make sense (although it is an intriguing match up) I wish coker would get real, overeem won’t be fighing in strikeforce this year, and if he does, it will not be against a legit opponent.

he isn’t even really suspended. You can’t get a license suspended if you don’t have one. I don’t think anyone official has put any sort of time frame on the thing.

Meh, “scum” might be going a bit far. I certainly question his judgement, though, and I really get bored of the weird attitude of entitlement he seems to have. Either way, though, it’s hard to imagine that anyone’s stock has fallen as far and as hard without actually losing a fight.

I said that not so much because of the roids, but because he used them to get an unfair advantage knowing they were illegal when he was getting ready to fight someone he considered a friend.

that could be unofficial, but I don’t remember anyone saying anything.

And if that was done officially, but nothing stopped Diaz from skipping a drug test and getting licensed/fighting in another state. If the penalty for skipping a drug test and failing one are different the drug testing system is more of a joke than originally believed.

by Phildo on Feb 4, 2010 11:58 AM EST up reply actions

They are different.

Diaz didn’t have a license, did not apply for one yet, and did not test positive… or test at all. They are dissimilar situations.

In every other sport in the world missing a test = failed test. They should be the same situation.

Diaz did not apply for a license yet. Barnett, if I recall correctly, was in the process of applying for a license. The situations are dissimilar.

Why would they test him if he wasn’t applying for a license?

The drug test was within a week of the fight, when was he going to apply for his license if not then?

by Phildo on Feb 4, 2010 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

Because he was scheduled for an upcoming event

and the CSAC are trying to be hardasses. And quite frankly succeeding, but that my be partially due to a competency issue.

As for the application, Cesar Gracie would probably take care of it a few days out. Re-apply late so that you can squeeze as many fights in one go before you need to pay the fees again.

I still don’t see how it’s different from Barnett’s situation at all, a drug test without a license is a drug test without a license.

I really don’t think you are right that he wasn’t “applying” but it seems like there’s a good chance he was in the process of doing it, so they should be in the same neighborhood.

by Phildo on Feb 4, 2010 1:09 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry for interrupting

But I’d like to point out that if they just don’t bother testing overeem or barnett there would be a clash of epic proportions, think Hulk vs Red Hulk, Hulk vs Juggernaut, Hulk vs (insert any unstoppable hero villan). My point is it would be amazing to see. I mean if they are both on steroids anyways then what’s the problem? Steroids are banned because they give ONE competitor an unfair advantage aren’t they?? Take out the unfair advantage and..

Arlovski vs Overeem?

Arlovski has been out awhile, but he has been flirting with the DREAM and Strikforce lately. If he wins they could have a rematch between him and Fedor to unite it, as it was a pretty intresting fight till that flying knee.

And yeah, who knows who they pit him againt if they do it in May. At this point I think they should just schedule it for September and try to do Fedor/Overeem. That would be a great fight. I actually wouldn’t mind seeing Rogers-Overeem either. The belt’s bascially something in name only, so I’d settle for a good match. But I’d stil watn Fedor Uber

I’m glad another organization exists, and i’m not nuthuggin’ the UFC, i’m just calling bull**** on 2 of the worlds top 10 guys saying they chose SForce b/c they want to fight the best (moreso Fedor did this). if it’s about the $$$$, i can respect that, just call a spade a spade.

- Jake Shields offered fight contract but not yet signed.

I think having Jahe Shields assist Chuck Liddell On TUF 11 will have an impact on his decision making. Like for an example : Jake helps out Chuck, Show is over, Jake interested in a fight with GSP (UFC contract?), Chuck puts in a “Good Word” to his long time friend Dana, Dana Signs him!. But i don’t think he’ll fight GSP right off the back though! What do you think?

by kinghaze on Feb 4, 2010 2:24 PM EST reply actions

I don’t think Dana needs any added incentive to steal away one of SF’s belt holders. I figure Jake in the UFC all comes down to just how serious Jake was in the past about getting into the UFC. We’ll soon find out.

He’d probably be stripped of the belt. As for how he does in the UFC, I think he’s got a good shot at beating anyone in the WW division besides GSP and BJ Penn. If he stays at MW in the UFC, he could do well too. But again, I have a hard time seeing him as champ.

Dear Scott Coker

Please take a page from Dana White. Even though Lesnar is coming back this year, it made sense to have Mir and Carwin fight for a strap while he gets back in fighting shape. Yes, they could have held out a couple months and stuck with the rescheduled UFC 108 match against Carwin but they needed to do something to keep division moving.

Argue all you want but Fedors / Werdum makes sense given the CBS crowd and both are ready to go. Have them fight for a strap. Go ahead and have Bigfoot fight Overeen and get walker or gina on that card. Then, unify the belt. This carries them to august and you have guys like AA, Barnett, and some of the your strikeforce guys opportunities to get in the mix.

Above all Mr. Coker, you have the best fighter in history and he still isn’t fighting for a belt.
