Tim Sylvia and Antonio Silva turn down fight against Josh Barnett at DREAM.13:

According to mmajunkie.com:

"Monte Cox and Tim Sylvia nixed the Japanese's promotion's original offer to fight Josh Barnett and a new opponent search is now underway."

And graciemag.com:

Antonio Silva - "They called me to fight on March 22, but that would be really cutting it close. It would be against Josh Barnett and left it up in the air. The focus remains on April, at Strikeforce (against Brett Rogers or Andrei Arlovski), which is likely to go down."

Could this be the reason M-1 has been dragging their feet with the Fedor fight. Probably not but I guess anything is possible with those guys.

According to TSGIGOR on the UG:

Tomorrow, begin training camp in Stary Oskol. Fedor begins training for his fight in the U.S.

For Werdum. So it look’s like Fedor is fighting in May.

Who is TSGIGOR?

Because the people I talked to at M-1 gave me a pretty different story…

even though he has said that the “turmoil” at m1 that has been reported by many people is false and that Fedor didn’t compete in the Sambo competition that Aleks won?

by Phildo on Feb 28, 2010 10:14 AM EST up reply actions

There is turmoil at M-1

At least in regards to their contract with Strikeforce, and it isn’t money, either…

Has it anything to do with Gegard leaving, or the portion of the contract where they’re given an HD feed to broadcast to other territories under the m-1 banner? Or what? No more cryptic comments people.

by John Nash on Feb 28, 2010 12:34 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

M-1 doesn't feel like Strikeforce is honoring their contract

Their endgame is promoting M-1 Global, period. Mousasi was the only other M-1 fighter Strikeforce is interested in and, well, he left. Part of Fedor’s contract states that M-1 is an equal partner and would have equal rights in filling up the cards they co-promote.

The M-1 people I’ve been talking to have actually gone as far as to call Coker unprofessional and a ‘slimeball’ which, you know, is funny.

They are very displeased with Strikeforce, basically. Fedor fighting for them is basically being held hostage until Strikeforce offers up half of their television cards to them.

I gather M1

want more of their fighters on Strikeforce cards? That seems impossible unless they can get Walker/Lashley to sign with them as well. Bad spot for Mr Coker to be in.

by Riney on Feb 28, 2010 6:14 PM EST up reply actions

Thanks. I guess we’ll be seeing a lot of Karl Ammoussou.

Actually this seems like a problem with a simple solution (which there never is). Why can’t they book and record a couple of m-1 fights to the undercard, which would then be broadcast as part of the m-1 programs, which is something Affliction was prepared to do. It would seem like a win-win to me: Strikeforce gets a better undercard compared to their current local fighters only ones and M-1 gets to showcase a few more of their fighters. Or is m-1 intent on marketing their fighters to the CBS audience?

TSGIGOR post on the subject from a couple of days ago:

Dear Cindy, to my regret or other way around I understood what you’re talking about. My English is far from perfect.
Once again: Fedor will fight in the USA relatively soon.
Yesterday I talked to M-1 brass, the trainers and Fedor. They all are doing well. What disturbs you?
Backstage politics don’t interest me that much. In my mind it only hampers business.
I love you Cindy ! Do not forget it ! <3
He may be friends with Fedor and have a lot of insight into some of this but he spells it out right here that he isn"t paying attention to the same things we are talking about here or keeps up with the politics of M-1 Global.

yeah he’s a cheater, yeah he screwed the fans and a major promotion royally, but i dunno i still think barnett has alot to offer, if nothing else then while exiled in japan, the land of no drug testing.

overeem vs. barnett makes a WHOLE lot of sense to me.. it would do huge numbers imo in not only the broadcast in japan, but also in the US

by kanodogg on Feb 27, 2010 10:50 PM EST reply actions

I’d find it funny if Overeem demanded Barnett do several drug tests before agreeing to a match

by MikeD32 on Feb 27, 2010 10:55 PM EST up reply actions

Nobody in the US knows who either of those guys are. It’s a huge fight in Japan, it’s a huge fight to the hardcores that haven’t forsaken Barnett as a three time loser (I’m with that group) but to the large unwashed masses in America who have no fucking clue who either guy is, the fight is meaningless.

by Worldisart on Feb 27, 2010 11:19 PM EST up reply actions

i’d beg to differ

by kanodogg on Feb 27, 2010 11:20 PM EST up reply actions

I still think Barnett is a loser but I still want to see him vs Fedor.

Sylvia really wants that Hong Man Choi fight…

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

by Sam Cupitt on Feb 27, 2010 11:44 PM EST reply actions

Nah man he wants Sims...

which is very dissapointing to hear…thats a fight that could launch him back into the HW Top 10.

I’d like to see Brett Rogers fight Antonio Silva, so that’s good news.

by Lauren J Darkbloom on Feb 28, 2010 1:06 AM EST reply actions

Yeah, that’s a great fight for both guys. What with all the talk of Strikeforce being dead there is always hope.

Tim needs some wins, so I guess it’s no surprise he turned down this fight. Barnett would probably beat him.

Smart move by Sylvia. He needs some wins. They can do it later this year or next. The match up is always there more or less.

by MrJobro on Feb 28, 2010 5:58 AM EST reply actions

Exactly...

Tim told me that the offer was such a low ball number the Monte didn’t even ask Tim. Monte just turned it down. Fighting Barnett on a months notice is dumb idea for anyone. Especially if the money isn’t there.

you really need to remove both of tim’s testicle’s from your mouth. He’s got money, he just prefers to fight the homeless. the number is lowball because that’s where his career is currently.

Nice troll job

Be a man, not a child-Phil Anselmo

by ANance on Feb 28, 2010 4:20 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

it’s not a troll job, it’s my opinion. everywhere someone says something negative about poopy pants, you come by to white knight him. Do you really believe that his last few performances don’t have any effect on the offers that he now receives? He can’t expect to get that big Fedor fight cash if he can’t last more than a minute without getting finished off.

by BradCr on Feb 28, 2010 4:26 PM EST up reply actions

Anance

and Tim are friends. I would hope you would set the truth straight about your friend who was being trashed on by some armchair internet know it all.

by Riney on Feb 28, 2010 6:15 PM EST up reply actions

i see. me disagreeing with him makes me some armchair internet know it all. I dont think i’m alone in my opinion that Tim needs to actually take his career a little more seriously if he wants fans to take him seriously. I get that he and Tim are friends and that he loves Tim and thinks the world of Tim. My opinion is still that he needs to show up in shape and ready to fight and people won’t have much to knock him for. if that makes me an armchair internet know it all, then i am but one in a giant sea of them, yourself included

by BradCr on Feb 28, 2010 6:24 PM EST up reply actions

and i’m sure you believe you’re so much better than me because of it. sorry i have no sympathy for a past champ who couldnt even take the time to train a little bit for what could and should have been an easy fight in Ray Mercer. I guess because ANance says that Tim says he actually taking Wes Sims seriously and training hard etc i’m supposed to believe it. I think i’ll wait til he actually shows up to fight and see which Tim shows up. It can’t take too much training to beat Wes Sims, let’s hope he does at least that much.

by BradCr on Feb 28, 2010 6:45 PM EST up reply actions

I really can’t blame eather Tim or Antonio Silva for not wanting to take a fight with a real dangerous HW with out even a months notice. Finally a smart move buy MontyCox for Tim career. On the other hand I don’t know how smart a fight with Pudzianowski is now ? The Barnett fight is a win/win he losses to Josh its a fight with a top HW on short notice and will not be held against him and if he wins that fight it shots him back up the HW devsiion again. Now a fight with Pudzianowski is just a loose/loose he wins he is sapose to he losses its a huge and horrible looking loss.

by Shocbomb on Feb 28, 2010 11:24 AM EST reply actions

Monte Cox

Monte has done a horrible job managing Sylvia’s career. I could care less about Sylvia and Barnett who are both cheats. Monte is now just trying to squeeze out a little more money off Sylvia’s name. To all promoters….just because a fighter was good years ago it doesn’t mean I want to see him fight today.
