Mariusz Pudzianowski vs. Tim Sylvia set for April 23 in Boston

According to the bostonherald.com:
Pudzianowski has won the World’s Strongest Man title a record five times. The 33-year-old made his MMA debut in December and this show will mark his U.S. debut.

Also signed for the card are UFC veterans Rich Clementi, Yves Edwards and Houston Alexander.

"This will be the biggest card ever done, probably in the Northeast," said [promoter Corey] Fischer. "The UFC is coming here in August and they’re going to have a hard gate to beat. I think this fight card will be better than what they’re bringing."

"It’ll be on pay-per-view and shown live in Korea, Poland, Canada and about 14 other countries," said Fischer. "This will have more viewers than (the UFC’s) show."

As of now, Moosin will be the first big MMA organization to come to Boston. As announced earlier, Bellator Fighting Championships will head to the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre on May 6 and the UFC makes its Massachusetts debut on August 28 at the TD Garden.
Check out Mariusz Pudzianowski's MMA debut after the jump.

Drug testing?

For which one of them?

Sure glad Lesnar got his shit straightened out.

Both. Sylvia will need some juice for this.

by MMAInFeRioRiTy on Feb 27, 2010 3:41 PM EST up reply actions

I’m actually glad Pudz will have to go through it. It’ll answer that question at least.

Not really

He could cycle off pretty easily for 1 fight.

by JimJoe on Feb 27, 2010 7:33 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Then what’s the point of ever bringing it up? Until someone fails the drug test, there’s only speculation and that’s the only argument anyone ever has.

Pudz was caught once in 2004. Since then, he’s participated in strong man events in the US 5 times from 2007-2008 and was clean, don’t think it’s gonna be a problem.

This is more of a Japanese freakshow fight than you’re used to seeing in the states. But it’s gonna be very interesting imo.

I just called and confirmed the fight with Tim...

He said he is going to fight “some japanese guy” in japan in march, then fighting Pudz in April, then still fighting Sims in Canada. For those of you wondering if he is training, he is. He is doing two a days and keeping a better diet. I know Tims haters will keep hating but I for one am excited to see this fight. Tim also said he is about to sign a three fight deal with a Japanese organization.

seriously. It’s easy to call us haters, but Tim, with the way he’s gotten knocked around for a while, has made it really easy to hate on him. Show up in shape and give a decent effort and he might not get so much shit for being 300 lbs and knocked or choked out all the time

by BradCr on Feb 27, 2010 7:31 PM EST up reply actions

Umm...

He showed up outta shape for mercer and that’s pretty much it. If u need six-pack abs on all your fighters than maybe you need to watch pro-wrasslin. As for getting “choked out all the time”, I doubt he feels to bad about getting subbed by Nog and Fedor. He was beating the snot out of Nog before he made a mistake. And getting dropped by Fedor actually shows how good Tims chin is. He took Fedors best shot and did not go out. It took a former boxing champion to get Tim his first knock out/tko loss off his career. Maybe you should know some facts before you post. Just cuz I guy can’t beat the best in the world anymore does not mean he should retire

where did i say he should retire? where did i say he needs a six pack? I said show up and give a decent effort and people wont have so much to hate on. Without those things all we have to hate on is his boring decision based style.

Just because the guy can’t beat the best in the world does not mean that he should make his comeback fighting the homeless and overly inflated in Sims and Pudz, while turning down actual competition in Barnett

Maybe as a confidence-builder?

There aren’t many good options for him, admittedly. He’s lost a lot of credibility, but still would pose a good challenge for anyone. I really think him vs any kickboxer would make a good fight – he wouldn’t have to worry about ground fighting, but he couldn’t jab his way to a decision.

Yeah I agree , at least by way of records and rankings (which don’t always tell the truth) Tim is a huge favorite .
This fight sums up to whether Pudz can take Timmy down , and whether he has cardio . If he doesn’t have the two he’ll lose by TKO imo. Timmy is not easy to take down , Randy did it but Randy is one of the best wrestlers in mma . If this fight is for real I’m sure Tim will come in focused , this is probably his last chance to become relevant again . After the Ray Mercer loss he really needs to stack up wins.

Wow man

has Tim Sylvia seriously fallen that far in the eyes of some that not only are they convinced that this former body builder with only one other pro fight will be able to beat him, but beat him convincingly? Yeah Tim’s looked like shit now but I think that brain shifting he got from Mercer was just enough to knock some kind of sense back in his head and helped him to realize the long path to past his prime scrubdom he was headed towards. The guy is still a former UFC champion and I’m sure if he actually put his whole ass into training he could still be at least some what competitive.

Marius had some pretty sloppy form in his first fight, and yeah it was still effective but for the most part it was effective just because his opponenet barely knew wtf he was doing. This isn’t like BROCKLESNAR coming into the fight game with a pre-existing skillset that happens to be one of the best bases to have in MMA, this dude is super inexperienced and I doubt he’s going to show a drastic improvement by his next fight, but hey if he ends up knocking Tim out in the first then I guess I’ll just have to eat my hat.

To add...

Strongman strength is much different than bodybuilding strength. Bodybuilders lift to get the biggest muscle possible while strongman train to move weight and be powerful. Strongman strength is much better suited for MMA because of the focus on functional strength and the ability to lift awkward objects. When you think about it, some strongman events may last 2 or 3 minutes and it is pure anaerobic activity. I doubt Pudz is a great runner, but his anaerobic fitness is probably great. It is definitely a mistake to lump the strongman competitors and body builders together.
