Not a great main event
but overall the card on paper looks like it should have some good if not great fights.
If they add Couture-Franklin to the top of this card, it then becomes a very intriguing one for me. That fight is very interesting, and Sexyama-Wanderlei is awesome, with Tito-Chuck having the bad blood angle.
God I hope we stop bitching about cards before they're officially announced

What I’d really like is to see people stop focusing on the main event as the barometer of a card.

Dammit.
All right everyone, please exit the “Cro Cop is TOTALLY BACK!” bandwagon through the doors to your left, and watch your step.
Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

I have to favor Cro Cop in this kickboxing match. He kicks a lot harder than Hardonk, and Hardonk connected with a few of those high kicks against Barry. I think Cro Cop will let the legs fly a bit more, considering there’s no threat of him being taken down. I also think his signature straight left will connect a few times; would love to see some combos followed by the high kick. Actually, Cro Cop could dominate Barry on the ground. But, you can bet your ass Hyppolite will have Cro Cop on point for this fight, it’s basically a K-1 match.
WAR CRO COP (but I like Barry…)
We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turning every good thing to rust.
I don’t know, if I was Barry I’d be shooting for a takedown once or twice in the match just to throw CC off his game.
Cro Cop has won by guillotine before…

And Barry has lost by guillotine. What I’m saying is, while Barry shouldn’t be looking for a ground fight, if Mirko is letting lose with the feet and landing, threaten the takedown a time or two and keep him honest.
If Cro Cop is landing, Barry’s one-dimensionality will hurt him bad. I don’t think he should try to force it to the ground, where Cro Cop isn’t shabby and can land bombs if he gets on top

Give CroCop Credit...
He is coming back better and more focused every time…
He is not fightin Chumps…
CroCops competition has been leaps and bounds better than Fedors comp.
The reality is, CroCop just IS not that good and WAS NEVER that good.
He is too small for the UFCs HW division, and he is not a good enough striker for the UFC in any division…TODAY!!
5 years ago would have been a different story, but TODAY…CroCop is LESS than below average.
Who has he beat, and when?? His biggest named defeats were right after they had just fought in Grand Prixs…
Alexander Emelianenko is good in the same fashion that
Eli Manning is good…
They spell their last name the same as their successful older brother!!!
Sorry bro, you’re a good poster and I like to read your stuff so I hate to be the one who breaks it to you but this fight will end via K.O. by Pat Barry in round 2.
Cro Cop has looked extremely sluggish and his striking while still above the worst the UFC has to offer is no where near high level UFC strikers like Barry.
Love the match making for the excitement, but dislike the career ender they’ve put in Mirko’s way.
How did I end up on this bandwagon and why does everything say property of Chael Sonnen?
I just can’t get behind Pat Barry. He looked great against Hague for a bit, and while Cro Cop isn’t the fighter he once was, I can’t make Barry the favorite off the Hardonk fight. Haven’t seen the Dan Evenson match.

How many kicks has Cro Cop thrown during his tenure in the UFC? Did he throw more than 2 or 3 in his last fight? If kicks were his “lethal weapon”, and he doesn’t use that weapon anymore, then surely there is a reason behind it.
Injuries have caught up with Mirko and I don’t expect kicks to be his bread and butter anymore. Look at his last fight; the Cro Cop of a few years ago would have been looking to take Anthony Perosh’s head off at the earliest available opportunity; this Cro Cop relied on his hands alone.
As discussed on another post, there are a multitude of reasons he hasn’t thrown the leg kicks. Sure, tentativeness could be it, but also why throw it when you don’t need to? He obviously didn’t want to go to the ground with Perosh on top, so he busted him up with hands. Furthermore, Cro Cop purposefully didn’t go for the kill. It’s not like he was offended like against Dos Caras Jr.
This is gonna be a striking match, and Barry probably couldn’t wrestle his way out of a paper bag. Cro Cop has the better pedigree in MMA and K-1. I mean, even a guy like Peter Aerts still beats Gokan Saki.

Rothwell vs Yvel at 115 via mmajunkee
by DamnSevern
This fight seems more exciting then Cro Cop/Rothwell. Is this official?
by donkeypunch
Give Yvel to Rothwell, since both seemingly need an opponent now. That fight could be a good SPIKE prelim.
by Hardcharger
Damn it I did not want to see this fight. I think the Rothwell fight should have been pushed.
by Blackout612
Sorry Pat, but I can’t root for you if this fight happens.
by grein
Prime Mirko takes this but Crocop right now… I don’t know. Tough fight for Mirko, HD is a TOUGHHHHHHH dude and every one of his limbs hit like trucks. Crocop is seriously going to need to learn how to cut guys off in the cage, because if he hurts Barry and can’t trap him/ close the deal, then he probably won’t get another chance.
I’d say that the one thing Crocop has going for him is that Pat can get wild, which he might be able to capitalize on with his reach. Should be a slobberknocker

That’s what I want to know Barry has to just fight kickboxers now? He may as well sign with K-1.
by Blackout612
I think it has to do with “exciting” matchups Dana probably saw how the fans were raving about Cung Le/Scott Smith and Lawler/Manhoef because they were exciting fights and is trying to put together exciting fights.
by bigdmmafan
Let me clarify
People were raving about how exciting matches like Lawler/Manhoef and Le/Smith were and also complaining because the UFC was in a down spot with matches like Couture/Coleman and Ortiz/Griffin.
I wasnt trying to imply that the UFC never puts on exciting fights but if you had been here after 106 and 109 and compared to Strikeforce : Evolution and Strikeforce: Miami people were raving about the Strikeforce events and not so high on the UFC fights.
also should have said if you were here after 106 or 109 because I dont know if you were on here after 106 and 109 or not my bad.
I’ve lurked for a long time and only started posting recently and I’m aware of the sentiment not only here but on other sites at the time. That said I just found it to be a sign of how fickle MMA fans are because a) Even for a supposedly “low quality” portion of their schedule the UFC was largely delivering exciting and entertaining matches and b) the either/or kind of comparisons are stupid to start with.
In response to all of the "Why only kickboxers?" questions
It probably has something to do with Barry looking great standing up and getting submitted by…Tim Hague.
Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

Speaking of which, Mirko has a pretty good guillotine if memory serves.
Mirko by sub? Probably more likely than Mirko by KO at this point.
Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

I think Barry can do damage to a lot of HW's
I’d put his striking up there with anybody, but, and he even said this before his fight with Hague, his ground game is terrible.
Remember he was mudering Hague on the feet before he rushed in, got caught up in a clinch/scramble, and in Hague’s only offensive move of the fight, got gullitined.
He’s a novice when it comes to the mat. If he can really work and at least develop some takedown defense, he could make some noise. I like the guy.
i don't mind the matchup shuffling
just wish they were fighting sooner. 115 is a ways off for a dude who took zero damage in his last fight.
Me too, woulda been cool to say I’ve seen Mirko Cro Cop live, even if he is well past his prime.
by ufc4 on Feb 26, 2010 6:19 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
is it possible
there are travel issues due to him being from europe? maybe the paperwork for a visa (or whatever they hell he needs) takes awhile? just curious if that might be the reason for the slow turnaround.
That’s what I want to know Barry has to just fight kickboxers now? He may as well sign with K-1.
Solution: Rothwell vs Barry
Rothwell trains with Barry, so that won’t work. Also, Rothwell’s primarily a standing guy, so it doesn’t work there either.
Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

Okay this card, once slightly underwhelming, just shot up for me.
This is a heck of a debut for Vancouver.
The Seattle Times linked to my website in June 2009. I wasn't aware of this until January 2010.
UFC's logic here
This is what I think is going on.
UFC is thinking Mirko is pretty well shot and would lose to Rothwell and most likely Barry too.
They want to rub the last of his star power on a ‘young lion’ within the HW division, and they think that Barry has/will have greater overall fan appeal than Rothwell; I think he does too. More dynamic finishes, crisper striking technique, better look, and a more gregarious personality too. Plus, Barry has looked outstanding on the feet in all of his UFC fights, so if Mirko does come away with a win, they can push him as ‘Mirko is totally back and he proved it by taking out a WORLD CLASS striker in Pat Barry.’
For the record, I think Barry takes it and I look forward to seeing it.

Those are actually better fights, now if add Couture vs. Franklin as the ME and you have another great show.
It’d prolly be the co-main. Despite the fact that it’s a shit match-up, Liddel/Tito is still the main attraction

I really don't think Mirko would allow that to happen to his imaginary brother....

Don't be smug
Michael Cro Cop is Mirko Cro Cop’s twin brother of vastly diminished talent who took his place after the eddie sanchez fight.

Have to pick Pat Barry in this one. But Cro COp could win, and it would be a pretty big win for him.
I see no way Barry can take this
Come on give more credit to Mirko
