I trust Soderbergh to make a good movie.

Or, at least, an interesting one.

“The Girlfriend Experience” was a movie he made with Sasha Gray (A porn star) who Soderbergh thought was hot and guess how that movie turned out? Awful.

"The Girlfriend Experience" was better than expected

It wasn’t an Oscar master piece, but considering what Steven had to work with, it was good.

You also forgot that “the informant” was totally ace.

Out of Sight is still one of my favorite movies. Being a girl, I like Erin Brockovich too.

I don’t think we’re qualified to say if the movie is going to be good or bad until we see it.

by TruthbeSpoken on Feb 25, 2010 11:09 AM EST up reply actions

True

comparing fights and movies is a little different though

by TruthbeSpoken on Feb 25, 2010 11:20 AM EST up reply actions

How so?

You break down the value of the components and use that as a predictor of value of the outcome…

by Razreshat on Feb 25, 2010 1:28 PM EST up reply actions

For one; we already know more about the fighters than we know about Gina’s acting abilities.
In films there are several components that can make or break a movie. It’s not dependent on one person much like fighting is…

but my main point was this:The guy I was responding to made a statement like it was a certainty not an opinion.

Erin Brockovich

Was a good flick, and I’m not a chick. Dunno about Knockout, though. I’ll see it when it comes out on cable.

The best thing about Erin Brockovich was the parody of it in Hamlet 2.

The girlfriend experience was decent

My problem with the Girlfriend Experience was that they focused too heavily on little bits of conversations that were happening over an interesting time period in America’s history but ultimately the story became too shallow with little to no story. As for Sasha Grey I thought she did a great job for a a very inexperienced actress. She held my interest from start to finish but I wouldn’t look at her performance as to why the movie failed at the box office.

As for Gina Carano she isn’t a starring role in the movie and has a great cast supporting her ie Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, and Bill Paxton. I highly doubt that anyone will remember her performance and instead they will probably focus in on her "ass"ests!

by flickgrifter on Feb 25, 2010 1:47 PM EST up reply actions

Actually Gina has the leading role in this movie….the storyline is centered around her

by TruthbeSpoken on Feb 25, 2010 2:04 PM EST up reply actions

My mistake. When I was reading the plot sum I saw a he takes revenge instead of she. That makes things a lot more interesting. Still she has a great supporting cast that can make this film solid as long as the script is good.

No worries, I thought maybe you hadn’t read the plot summary…

Im looking forward to it, Soderbergh is a fantastic film-maker (see:Traffic, The Oceans movies, Che) The fact that Gina is in it can be a little un-nerving but I think she’ll do just fine with all the experienced people around her.

by bucco69 on Feb 25, 2010 9:44 AM EST reply actions

I will give you Traffic, but the others not so much. Che was too much in too little time and the movie didn’t track well at all; the DC in the Criterion Collection might shape it up but I doubt it.

Mr. Banderas is getting old.

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

they have a reason to. when you are placed as the face of womens mma at get destroyed by cyborg. what do ypu expect, everyone to like her

wat

so you hate her because she lost?

Since, that made none.

by MMAGuard on Feb 25, 2010 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

That didn't sound like hating to me.

Just like Heath Herring would rather be in movies than getting his orbital smashed by Brock, Gina is probably enjoying filming this movie more than being punched by a top 3 p4p female fighter who fights like prime Wanderlei wearing a cornrow weave.

It doesn’t seem hateful to me. In fact, I think it makes perfect sense. You think if you asked Gina that she’d disagree? I mean, she did get her head bashed in by Cyborg.

by Dooda on Feb 25, 2010 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

More disrecpectful than hateful, maybe

whatever, Cyborg is overrated and will soon get her head beat in by Erin. She got lucky in catching Gina in an off night.

by MMAGuard on Feb 25, 2010 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

Who's the hater now?

Cyborg is currently a destroyer of worlds. Hits hard, has a great chin, has a rapidly improving ground game, and solid TDD. Toughill and a rematch with a less rusty and more motivated Gina are great fights, but lets not sell Cyborg short here.

by pdl on Feb 25, 2010 2:06 PM EST up reply actions

I think you might be a little bit over-sensitive as a fan of Gina’s. It was blunt, but it was pretty accurate.
While it’s possible that Gina was having an off night, she was able to land several of her hardest shots and Cyborg just kind of sniffed them away. Even if Gina was off, surely she’s going to have to hit a lot harder to have any kind of effect on Cyborg. That woman is tough.

But I really like Gina and would love to see a more competitive rematch.

by Dooda on Feb 25, 2010 2:51 PM EST up reply actions

you know Soderbergh munched on that….

by mmalogic on Feb 25, 2010 11:07 AM EST reply actions

that's silly

He’s worked with dozens of beautiful actresses. I doubt it…

by TruthbeSpoken on Feb 25, 2010 11:10 AM EST up reply actions

There’s always tension when working closely with the opposite gender. Sex is the best way to get over it so quality work can be done. This is an uspoken standard in many fields.

That’s a minimum requirement if a cutie wants to work with me. 99%, Soderbergh tapped that ass and then jiggled it….

Why God, Why

Women’s MMA has been getting so much better since Carano has been out of the spotlight.

Just pretend she’s gone or something. Carano drags the entire sport down.

by Paradoxx on Feb 25, 2010 1:00 PM EST reply actions

wtf?

I hate to say this but if it weren’t for Gina the outside world(outside of mma) wouldn’t
know anything about women’s mma. Plus SF and Elite XC(back then) wouldn’t have promoted it so heavily if Gina hadn’t come along.
Women’s mma is partly where it’s at because of her.
She did not do it all on her own but she is a huge part of it.

by TruthbeSpoken on Feb 25, 2010 1:15 PM EST reply actions

yeah, I hate to admit it too, but you’re right. I personally can’t stand Carano, I think she’s rather overrated, but it’s true that she’s brought attention to the sport. Maybe not the best attention, but attention nonetheless. But, as a female, it really does irk me when the subject of women fighters comes up in a crowd of casual mma fans, and the only comments you hear are how hot Gina Carano is.
