Great card, the WEC is truly on another level from all of these other orgs not named UFC i’m really looking forward to seeing Faber derail the Aldo hype train.
yea not gonna happen
aldo does everything faber does but better and faster i dont see him gettin touched at 145
brown vs gambuyran is gonna be a brawl though, same with shalarous vs varner
Someone got to complain about something so I’ll volunteer. One thing I don’t like is that 4 of the 7 fights on the card are at lw. I watch the WEC for it’s world class bantam and featherweight divisions, not for its lightweights.
At WEC 47 only 1 fight on the main card is at lw, and the card includes the number 1 through 4 ranked bantamweights facing each other, so -
I guess I’m missing your point.
They have plenty of fw and bw fighters available without canceling that card since they have 50% of the ranked fighters in both classes. I just don’t want to get stuck with 4 of 6 cards broadcast being lw bouts so I’m hoping they announce a few more really good bantam and feather fighters. Again – and maybe others are different – I watch the WEC for the bantam and featherweights not the lightweights.
I think that's exactly his point.
They have most of the bantamweights locked into fight on WEC 47, so they would have to cancel 47 to make those guys available for 48.
I’m actually with you in the sense that, while WEC 48 looks very entertaining, I’d love to see them feature more bantamweights. But hey I guess they can’t make everybody 100% happy. I’ll watch 47 and buy 48 so it can’t be that bad.

I watch MMA
for relevant fights, should I stop watching Strikeforce?
I watch MMA
for exciting/skillful fights
and of course I like them to be relevant in the grand scheme of things, but as long as they deliver and are entertaining I’m not going to worry too much about it
I second that sir.

well i think most of their big name fighters (big names to the casual fans at least) are at LW so they want to capitalize on that for their 1st PPV and I don’t really blame them, but i’m not complaining cause this card looks great
Aldo by TKO Rd.2
although..
now that I consider it, I really have no clue who the casual fans are aware of regarding the WEC as I’m in the only person I know who watches it lol
I won't buy it.
I’m sticking with my protest to NOT buy WEC PPVs. Ever. Just because you weigh less doesn’t mean you should get paid less. Fighters don’t get the same money for sponsorship or purses in the WEC. The fighters at 135 and 145 deserve the same pay, respect, and exposure that comes with being a “UFC Fighter.”
There is no reason the UFC shouldn’t adopt the BW and FW divisions and make the WEC the development league it should be for all weight classes.
Not to mention Zuffa is just going to the PPV well a little too often. 300 dollar cable bills are getting really old with multiple PPVs hitting the same bill.
I agree that the lighter fighters should be getting similar exposure and pay but it’s just not the reality right now, and a big step towards these guys making more and getting more money is to be on PPV
and I think if the UFC absorbed the FW and BW divisions of the WEC it would just slow things down even more for title shots and things like that, you can only pack so many fights on each card so it would take longer to build contenders in each division. with 7 divisions you would get 1 fight for each weight class on eac h card,or 2/3 at most, which is gonna hold things up a lot IMO
and I’m also getting very tired of the $200-$300 satellite bills, damn its hard being an MMA fan these days lol
It wouldn't slow down things at all....
I’m sure they could bump a fight off the bottom of the main card to make room for stars like Aldo, Faber, Torres, Brown etc.
I don’t see how having 2 more divisions in the UFC would be anything but great.
more divisions=more fighters to place on cards=fighters able to fight less often=fighters paths to the title take longer. it’s as simple as that.
or we’ll see them get rid of many of the less stellar fighters to make room, 2 losses in a row and done as opposed to 3 or so like it is now. i would love to see them absorb those divisions but i don’t see it happening this year at least, and if it does they’ll have to trim some fat off their roster to make it work
I should go again!
I went last year to Columbus for Rampage/Jardine and it was amazing. Tickets to this show are MUCH MUCH cheaper and still available.
i might buy this card twice.
not really, but this is more worth it than a LOT of UFC cards i’ve shelled out for. This is like a superhero card
I have a feeling that WEC 49 is going to be a bit of a let down.

Damnit I’m probably going to order it :(, damn you WEC for making me loyal with all your free amazing fight cards that never let me down except for Sonnen Filho two… damn you.

Great card for a first WEC PPV. It was reported that only a very few WEC cards will be on PPV, so I wonder who the WEC will put on their card after this one, which I’m guessing will be on Versus. My prediction so far for this card:
Aldo beats Faber
Henderson beats Cerrone
Brown beats Gamburyan
Njokuani beats Roller
Shalorus beats Varner
Page beats Banuelos
Micklewright beats Karalexis
