Heavy Hitters (Gif Heavy)

Lately we've been putting a good deal of emphasis on how good and/or bad a fighters chin is. We're forgetting one thing. Everyone doesn't throw their punches, kicks, elbows, and knees, etc. with the same amount of power. The sport currently has fighters with power that's almost mythic in nature, and they we've probably only seen a few of the real KO machines thus far.

Star-divide

Shane Carwin: Only takes one punch.

via mmachronic.com

Dan Henderson: Right Hand of Doom

Ufc100-hendersonbisping1_medium

Houston Alexander: Say what you will about his skillset, but you can't deny his power.

Junior Dos Santos: Cement Blocks for hands

Paul Daley: Definitely not named after the Czech Energy drink

What's my point you ask? It's simple. If a fighter gets KO'd by one of MMA's Heavy Hitters, it's probably due to getting hit in the face by a fist that's generating the same force as a moving car. Not their "weak chin". That is all.

I'm gonna make a bold prediction here and say Cain "pillowhands" (as some of you have called him) lol Velasquez catches Nog right on the chin and finishes via strikes on the ground. Nog looked good against an old Randy. It didn't show me much. We’ll see.

Hasn't all this chin talk been about the Nog/Cain fight

Up until that punch nobody thought Cain had power. He clearly does, but he’s not one of your “heavy hitters.” That being said its been too long since we’ve got to see Carwin smack somebody around.

Nog got countered, you don’t need mad power to drop someone with a good counter anyway.

How was it a counter when both threw at the exact same time? lol

Cain threw a combo

after Nog started his combo. Nog landed the jab, and tried to come back with a cross… Cain counters this with a left hook, right hook, left hook combo, of which the right landed big.

I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.

It's a mix of Cain knocking holy shit out of Nog

and people saying that Wandy’s chin is gone after getting knocked silly by CroCop, Rampage, and Hendo.

just realized

to Hazelettes credit, he actually beats Daley to the punch. Dustin lands his left on Daleys chin right before Daley lands the much more powerful blow

by moopwontplay on Feb 22, 2010 8:27 PM EST reply actions

He did beat him to the punch

But I’m still confused as to why he even tried to stand with Daley at all.

No credit for Hazelett on that one. He hit at an angle that completely sapped all his power.

He landed faster but he paid the price for a rushed hook. Dailey throw whith more power and better technique. That’s when you ask yourself WTF he is doing there trading with dailey.

I think he was suffering from “shit his pants” syndrome.

by brooksto on Feb 23, 2010 7:15 PM EST up reply actions

How was he suppose to take him down?

Daley would have dominated in the clinch, and hazlett isn’t exactly a double leg takedown kind of guy.

by TheBiggertheyare... on Feb 25, 2010 10:05 PM EST up reply actions

How did everyone manage to forget how quickly it ended?

Of COURSE he wanted to take it to the ground, everyone knew that, especially Daily. I thought the rolling koppo kick (or whatever they call it in KK) was as good of a lead-off gambit as any. If Daily hadn’t been able or chos enot to back up he probably would’ve wanted to at least throw a shot or two at the downed Hazelett.

McFedries and Robbie Lawler IMO have p4p the most power in MMA.

"He wants to portray himself as the crazy one; I think he’s just portraying himself as the weird one. And we’re gonna know which guy’s more crazy when we get into the Octagon." - BJ Penn (about Diego Sanchez)

by itsallgood013 on Feb 23, 2010 11:35 PM EST up reply actions

Fedor has the most power P4P easily. How could you suggest otherwise?

by p123 on Feb 24, 2010 1:42 AM EST up reply actions

Fedor has more finess. He doesn’t necessarily throw everything he has into every punch he throws. He punches to make combos and catch people. (With the exception of when he killed Rogers.) But when McFedries throws a punch, he’s aiming to take your head off with every single punch. And most of the time he’s only throwing one punch at a time, not many combos.
IE:

"He wants to portray himself as the crazy one; I think he’s just portraying himself as the weird one. And we’re gonna know which guy’s more crazy when we get into the Octagon." - BJ Penn (about Diego Sanchez)

by itsallgood013 on Feb 24, 2010 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

… That was supposed to be McFedries trying to decapitate Xavier Foupa-Poukam.

I don't think P4P means what you think it means

It’s a hell of a lot harder for a heavyweight to be P4P anything, they have to be above and beyond the greatest at whatever you’re talking about. Fedor is a powerful guy, but not that far above people at lighter weights.
