Frank Mir wants Brock Lesnar to die in the Octagon transcript: (click here for the audio)

"A lot of individuals are so worried about being politically correct. I'd rather go ahead and say what's on my mind than to sit there and come up with some PC 'Oh, the guy is a great fighter and I have a lot of respect for him.' If I don't mean it, why is it even coming out of my mouth? ... I want to fight Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person. I want to break his neck in the ring. I want him to be the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injuries. That's what's going through my mind."

"He doesn't like me and I can guarantee, you talk to anybody in my family, it's a legitimate hate," Mir said of Lesnar. "His very being bugs me just because I've seen a lot of children out there who look to athletes and martial artists as role models, and it just makes me cringe. I sit there and go, 'Man, I lost to this guy the second time around and now people think that's the way to be -- be big, obnoxious and angry.' That's not right. We have anger toward each other. Everything I stand for he despises and dislikes, and I can tell you I truly do not like him as a person whatsoever."

"Forty pounds among skilled athletes matters," Mir said. "A big guy as skilled as Lesnar, especially with his wrestling, is a whole different scenario. I don't know if I'll ever be as strong as Brock Lesnar -- he seems to have pretty good genetics in that category -- but I think I can close the gap."

Those days were the shizz.

I'm gonna make a bold prediction here and say Cain "pillowhands" (as some of you have called him) lol Velasquez catches Nog right on the chin and finishes via strikes on the ground. Nog looked good against an old Randy. It didn't show me much. We’ll see.

In all honesty

He probably doesn’t give a shit about being a role model. He just views Lesnar as his life’s nemesis and wants to do everything in his power to discredit him and portray him as the Doomsday to his Superman

there is no justification for saying he wants Brock to be the first casualty in the octagon, zero.

yeah

Lesnar does seem to genuinely be a dick, but I’m not getting anything here that’s an improvement on that.

Also, I don’t really have any hope that Mir has what it takes to beat him again.

And yet he is irrationally angry and trying to get bigger...

Great call.....

I had the same basic comment. Say what you want, that’s fine, but don’t go down the “Oh, he’s such a horrible role model” line then say in the next breath you want the guy to die in the cage at your hands. What a dumb statement.

Basically Frank Mir is a life long martial artist who is frustrated that someone with little training in “traditional martial arts” or MMA as a whole has closed the gap with wrestling and brute force genetics.

Sour grapes much Frank?

by JimJoe on Feb 22, 2010 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

Mir ...

Makes it pretty easy to “assume” he was bullied as a youngster and now has the Napoleon complex, as weird as that may seem sue to his above average size.. His mental capacity displays such traits though..

Mir can’t handle being beat by a guy he “thinks” is inferior.. But truth be told, Lesnar is the superior of the two and always will be.. Lesnar is a life long dedicated athlete, Mir is not.. Mir has gotten by on good grappling knowledge and fighting lesser physically capable men. All Mir’s upside isn’t enough when compared to Lesnar. Lesnar is always going to be a better, bigger, and more functional athlete.. Those are the breaks for Mir and genetics and natural raw talent are evidence to that conclusion..

well said

Well said, Spencer. I couldn’t agree more. I think it’s funny that Brock beat him 98 percent of the fight in their first bout and Mir acts like he has manhandled Brock and wants his revenge. I understand a win is a win but don’t kid yourself Mir you aren’t going to catch him again. I’m interested in the fact that Mir has put on as much weight as he has. I’m curious to see how he does the third time around….. oh wait…. he needs to get passed Carwin first. oh how easily we get ahead of ourselves. Hey Mir, worry about Carwin first! God, I hope you get your butt handed to you by Carwin. (I’m typing this like he would actually read it. My bad) :)

Well, BJ Penn did say he wanted to their fight to go “to the death” and he wasn’t “joking about that”. It’s not a leap in logic to assume that BJ was referring to GSP’s death. It’s obviously pre-fight hype, but I don’t really like it.

That was different.

It’s not “I’m gonna kill him, I hope he dies.” It was a “There’s no quit in me. I’ll die for this sport, and you better be prepared to do the same.” Not saying it was ok, but it wasn’t a clearly stated desire to murder an athlete during competition.

It may not be irresponsible hype...

Frank may truly want to kill Lesnar. He could be “keeping it real”. I personally think it is a horrible to thing to publicly say. I wonder what the implications of saying such a thing are if he were to actually kill Lesnar some how during their fight. Would it be considered pre-meditated murder?

Yes and No

Note that this happened before UFC100, not after.

I doubt they hate each other as much as they say in interviews, but I think there is genuine dislike now.

Mir was embarrassed by losing the way he did to Lesnar and by Lesnar’s rubbing his nose in it when he was a bloody mess.

Rather than say “I was embarrassed and he made me feel frightened. Now I want to get stronger and beat him up so I’ll feel better about myself and not scared”, instead Mir says “I’m saddened to think about what a poor role model he is to children.”

One can understand why he didn’t say the former…but that is the truth, much the same way any of us would have felt if we were physically beaten as he was. But part of the pretense of being a tough fighter is never showing fear…it’s not true, but it’s part of the currently acceptable persona.

by Django Z on Feb 22, 2010 5:44 PM EST up reply actions

he's said many times that the way he lost to Brock at 100

has motivated him to become better. I think Brock beating him up and then getting in his face hurt his pride, but I don’t think Frank is frightened at all… Brock is a big scary guy, but I don’t see him scaring any of the top tier HWs anywhere. I think anger, and revenge has more to do with this than fear.

Does anyone else not understand Mir's rapid weight gain?

Mir didn’t lose the fight because he wasn’t strong enough to deal with Lesnar, he lost because he couldn’t stop Lesnar from taking him down and he couldn’t work his BJJ from the bottom. Gaining a bunch of bulky muscle isn’t going to help his sprawl or his technical BJJ game, it’s just going to make him gas faster on the bottom.

Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.

by lowellthehammer on Feb 22, 2010 3:09 PM EST reply actions

Muscle will help him work from the bottom.

The biggest obstacle for him working BJJ from the bottom was that he couldn’t create space. Lesnar used his werstling exceptionally well to hold Mir down and not give him room for submissions.

I have long thought that Gonzaga might be the biggest BBJ threat to Lesnar, mostly because he has the size / strength to create space and movement. Mir has not cut down on the size advantage and it should help him greatly.

We already know he can out strike Lesnar and maybe the size makes him harder to take down, but it surely gives him the ability to create space if the fight hits the ground.

by truck on Feb 22, 2010 3:14 PM EST up reply actions

Brock rag dolls 300 + lbs'ers

In training camps.. He gets the countries best wrestlers to come in and work with him. He gets the worlds top JJ guys to come in and work with him..

Mir could get over 300 and Brock would still hold him down all the same.. Mir will never close that gap because Mir doesn’t have “functional strength” whereas Lesnar does and always will have at that size..

I don’t remember the exact link but there was a source from Lesnar’s college teammate showing that Lesnar was benching over 600 in college.. Lesnar has been training wrestling and lifting weights his entire adult life and earlier.. His frame and is accustomed to holding that weight and his body is adapt and functioning while pushing that weight.. This creates functional strength..

i don’t like the term “political correctness”. it’s not about politics, it’s about money. if you say something that the majority of the money paying consumers vehemently disagrees with or finds offensive, then your ability to make money for yourself and others is compromised. it’s a way for assholes to blame some nebulous “political” entity for the fact that they say things that make them look like assholes. i’m sure brock has done it too.

by zakkree on Feb 22, 2010 3:19 PM EST reply actions

I'd like to know....

How Shane Carwin is going to react to Mir’s statements. After all, Carwin has been very emphatic about unacceptable antics and fighter reactions. You know, everyone was dogging Lesnar because of what he did at UFC 100, which I’ll admit, it was over the top and just plain stupid. Now, he apologized afterwards. Lesnar is the type of jock that thinks after he does things, you can just tell from hearing his interviews etc. Now Mir is really starting to disturb me.

At first, his trash talk was ok, because afterall….it’s part of the fight game.
Then he started bashing Lesnar after he beat him.
Then Lesnar hands Mir the “Horseshoe” and instead of being humbeled by the loss; Mir goes beyond the trash talk with some creepy statements. Mir becomes obsessed with Lesnar.
Now this? Wishing another mans death in the ring and saying that he wants to break his neck?

I’d be pretty pissed off if I were Dana. You know when you’re trying to do everything in your power to legalize MMA in other states; Statements like these can really put a damper on the progress. Sure Lesnar dogged the sponsors and flipped the bird on the fans, but in no moments has he ever said anything as unacceptable as Frank Mir.

Mir is supposed to represent a role model? Or a good ambassador of MMA? With statements like these; It makes me think that Frank should be in counseling instead of being in the ring.

There is a fine line between trash talking, and threatening someone. It’s possible to die in the octagon. Get hit in the wrong place, or hold a choke at a wrong angle and you can really compromise someones career. Hearing Frank Mir on multiple occassions speaking about threatening Lesnar’s career, should call for Dana and the powers that be to have a talk with Mir and see where he’s at.

Now….I really hope that Carwin KO’s him. Maybe then will Mir be obsessed with someone else…..Geez…what a weirdo!

by zakkree on Feb 22, 2010 3:53 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I’m saying that “I want to hurt him” is 100% okay because honestly…that’s kind of the goal of the sport.

Saying “I want to make sure he never fights again” fits the “hype” model for me but is borderline.

Saying I want to kill someone in a sport where it is 100% possible is…something else.

Maybe I’m just taking it seriously because of Emile Griffith/Benny Paret (by the way…Ring of Fire = TREMENDOUS documentary). Griffith wanted to hurt Paret in that fight…he wanted to punish him and he ended up killing him. I know Griffith wasn’t out there saying that he wanted it to happen. But it was televised on NBC and it caused a major backlash against boxing. A death in a major MMA event (and there will be one) is going to cause a similar backlash. And I’d really rather we didn’t have clips of a top 10 guy on record talking about wanting to kill his opponent.

But I don’t think that’s the case and don’t care about the idiots that write slander about mma or the people who read them. I guess I should since idiots seem to be responsible with a lot of americans decisions. Haha.

The backlash is gonna come either way, I don’t think it’ll really matter what anyone says beforehand.

by ufc4 on Feb 22, 2010 4:24 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Well everyone thinks it’s so great when Mir or Sonnen or whoever talks shit before a fight, if it’s gonna be so encouraged who gets to say where the line should be drawn?

by ufc4 on Feb 22, 2010 4:11 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

i don’t think it’s unreasonable to draw the line at death, but that’s just me.

by Phildo on Feb 22, 2010 4:31 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

So if he said he wants to put Brock in a coma that’s cool?

by ufc4 on Feb 22, 2010 5:21 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I don’t think so, but I’m not a fan of this whole, “where do we draw the line nonsense” when we’re talking about something that clearly is over the line.

by Phildo on Feb 22, 2010 5:34 PM EST up reply actions

If I actually thought he meant what he said then I’d agree it’s over the line, but he doesn’t mean it. If he actually killed Brock he’d be truly remorseful about it.

by ufc4 on Feb 22, 2010 6:05 PM EST up reply actions

hey! i said the exact same thing somewhere in this mess of a thread.

glad someone agrees. but if mir beats carwin, get his rubber match, breaks brock’s neck, and kills him….we’ll seriously be eating our words, i suppose.

by zakkree on Feb 22, 2010 6:07 PM EST up reply actions

also....

to say that he wishes Brock to be the first octagon death is one of those statements that sets the whole sport back, and gives fodder to the press that are WAITING to jump all over MMA and condemn it.

franks really doing a good job of this

a fight noone really wanted to see a rubber match of after ufc 100 frank is hyping up in a good way

if he can beat carwin at 111 u know for a fact brock is coming into the ring to have a staredown with mir and that’ll be intense as hell

personally i wanna see brock fight someone else before this rubber match since hes only fought 4 ppl in his career

by milk72 on Feb 22, 2010 3:35 PM EST reply actions

Does Mir really want to keep giving new legs to the argument about MMA fighters being human cockfighters and matches being nothing more than modern-day gladiator combat that ends only when one of the fighters is hospitalized?

Yes, he’s going heel and selling a fight. However, a blurb like this is practically begging to be snatched up by every politician and journalist who dislikes MMA. Maybe Mir has too thick a head to realise that, but UFC brass should but the kibosh on stuff like this – it’s hurting their product.

by Monday Morning Martial Artist on Feb 22, 2010 3:36 PM EST reply actions

What Mir did was steal attention away from Nog vs Cain, cuz he knows those two guys were in the picture re: Lesnar. The week of their fight, Mir had to remind everyone that he’s still alive, like a baby.

by Handicapper8 on Feb 22, 2010 3:43 PM EST reply actions

Frank Mir has lost his talking privileges…. no talking for 3 months.

I can see these comments plastered all over negative MMA articles.

Is the day this crap really takes off.

Brock needs to bad mouth the mullet.

I’d pay to see the rematch if Insane Frank Mir defends the honor of his favorite fighter

by black dragon on Feb 22, 2010 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

Frank Mir fan!

I’m a fan of Mir’s ever since he entered the octagon for the very first time. But to say you want someone to die is alittle much. Mir has lost all his marbles when it comes to Brock. Can’t wait to see the third and final fight because according to Mir he’s going to break Brocks neck.

by DaBooYaKID! on Feb 22, 2010 3:47 PM EST reply actions

Mir needs

to be careful, BROCKLESNAR might re insert a few horseshoes in their next match. It might hurt but should help with the weight gain.

by Riney on Feb 22, 2010 3:47 PM EST reply actions

Frank is smart

He’s hyping up a possible bouth with Lesnar . Think about it – the beating he took was one of the worst , most one sided beatings I’ve ever seen . He was simply destroyed – and not by a one puncher , by 1 and half rounds of DOMINANCE. So he needs to convince people (and himself !) that he has anything for Lesnar another time . He might mean what he said , but he’s also choosing to say it to the public to sell the fight .
Is it “bad” for the sport? Who knows . Mike Tyson was the most popular boxer in the last decades and he was an absolute monster – he kept talking about trying to throw a hard enough uppercut to his opponents’ nose so their nose penetrates their brain and they’d die(I swear , I heard him say that in an interview) , and what about the ear-biting ? Tyson and his persona sold fights , period . Muhammed may have never talked about wanting to kill a man but he was a dick that’s for sure.

Emile Griffith/Benny Paret and Ali/Ernie Terrell where guys hated their opponents and wanted to make a point by actually hurting the other guy beyond normal limits of sport.

was it not in January that Mir said he wishes no ill will to Lesnar, because after all he has a family blah blah.and then for him to come out and want to kill the guys seems weird,i think he has kinda gone off the deep end.what if he loses to Carwin?Lesnar fight would be a long ways away,he should concentrate on Carwin becuase that aint no walk in the park.

MIR talking his way into big paychecks.

He’s openly admitted he’s going to pick fights with the guys that make the most. He’s got a family to feed and fighters time on the big stage is short. Get paid Frank.

Fighters are saleman. Good trash talking by good fighters will push up the PPV buyrate.

Based on past PPV results it seems safe to say Brock is the largest PPV draw in MMA but could this make Brock and even larger PPV draw?

I guess I’m wondering if this could turn Brock into the guy everybody is cheering for and if that happens could it make him an even bigger draw.

Just BE.

Here’s a crazy idea….but just maybe at this point Mir should be focusing on Carwin instead of trying to “hype up” a potential third bout with Lesnar. All this trash talk is going to make Mir look awfully stupid if Carwin beats the snot out of him and Mir never gets his rubber match.

by joshyboy708 on Feb 22, 2010 6:57 PM EST reply actions

For all the people that said Lesnar was bad for the sport…..then what is this guy? This is insane…and way out of line. This is not the kind of press we need on MMA as a sport. A lot of people would be sickened by these remarks…and would never give this sport a chance if they come across this.

He’s only hurting the sport with such ridiculous comments. I only wonder what will happen to the guy if he loses to Lesnar…or by God…Carwin…wonder if he even remembers he’s fighting him in a few weeks…?

by Hbkfuel on Feb 22, 2010 7:27 PM EST reply actions

each night as my head hits the pillow I just pray that Carwin puts a whooping to Mir like we have never seen before so he will shut his big mouth. I can’t stand Mir more now then ever. Worry about Carwin! He’s big like brock with better hands and a good wrestler. Do you not think you have something to worry about?

Shut up, Tito.

It's amazing

how much Brock was criticized and mocked about his “Wrestling Entertainment” background. Look at what Mir’s resorting too….this sounds like a page right out of the old Vince McMahon’s WWE script.

I think Frank is genuine though. Genuinely insane…..these statements are crazy….

by JAFOrlando26 on Feb 23, 2010 9:01 AM EST reply actions

WOW

So the transcript above cherry-picks his statements, puts them out of order, and removes all the context from the most inflammatory statement.

NO SURPRISE THERE.

And clearly, just about nobody in this thread could be bothered to listen to it before spouting off.

What’s hysterical about this is that ANYONE who listsens to the audio can hear that Mir is saying all of this with a chuckle. He’s being light-hearted, he’s being genial, he’s joking around. But luckily for Mir-haters, whoever transcribed it took out all the context and hacked that paragraph together. NICE WORK.

Don't believe a word I say, I don't train BJJ.
