UFC 110 Results: Wanderlei Silva Drops Michael Bisping

via www.cdn.sherdog.com

MMA legend Wanderlei Silva took a unanimous decision that his career much needed over Michael Bisping at UFC 110.

After talking some smack before the fight, Michael Bisping came out offering a hand shake in the cage. But once the fight started, he came forward. He got a take down less than a minute in, but the Brazilian fought to his feet quickly. Bisping's reach advantage let him control the range before again shooting in for the take down. Silva fought his way back up quickly. Silva finally landed a right hand and a leg kick with about 90 seconds left. With a minute left Silva scored but Bisping answered by staggering Silva with a punch of his own. With a few seconds left, Silva tagged Bisping and made his head bounce back.

In the second round, Silva slammed Bisping down with a beautiful trip. Bisping went for an arm bar from the bottom but the Brazilian fought it off. Silva caught the Brit with a hard leg kick to the body as Bisping stood up. Bisping scored with punches then shot in and slammed Silva. Silva quickly rolled free and took the fight to the feet. Silva had a near miss with a looping right hand but he pressed Bisping back. Body kick followed by leg kick scored for the PRIDE champ. Bisping shot in for a take down but Silva got him in a guillotine and squeezed impossibly hard as the round ended. Bisping was lucky to escape the round.

In the third round, Silva worked leg kicks early. Then a high kick, all while looking to force punching exchanges. Silva landed with a hard right that Bisping sought to answer in kind. Then Silva took a low blow. They traded after the break.  Then Bisping shot and got stuffed. The crowd chanted for Silva as the round ran down. Then Silva took a thumb to the eye. Wanderlei fired a series of winging shots, most of which missed. One backed up Bisping with a glancing contact. Silva landed the trip take down again but did nothing with it. Then Silva landed the big one and dropped Bisping. At the end of the fight it wasn't clear if Silva won by TKO or if the buzzer went off first.

wandy shoulda rushed bisping much earlier!! that was a great third round for him regardless… he pushed the action, showed great take down defense, and rocked him with that final flurry.

WAR WAND!

I’m so happy now. Being a fan in an MMA world where Michael freaking Bisping held a victory over my all-time favorite fighter was just too cruel of a thing.

I know, right

It’s alright, with this and Hendo’s CRUSH on Bisping, we won ’t have to hear Mikey talk like a woman for while.

Great win for Wand but Bisping is going to be kicking himself for blowing the fight crazy finish though.

I see where you're going

but Wandy could’ve finished earlier as well, if he’d just kept going (twice). Still, a solid victory for the Axe Murderer.

Fight of the night for sure.

Awesome

1) Fuck yeah for Silva. One of the best fighters of all time should get the love. And as for Bisping getting shit on by the Aussie audience, history has reason for the Aussies to hate him. But anyway, to sum up: WAR WAND!!

Everyone's gonna flame me for this...

…but Bisping won rounds 1 and 2

Bisping Won Rd1 Lost Rd3 & Rd 2 is Disputable but He lost it

Silva & Bisping both scored takedowns in Rd 2 and striking IMO was edged out by Silva in that round. At the end of the round Bisping tried stealing the round with a takedown (his 2nd after being stuffed earlier a few times in the Rd 2), and got caught in a gullitone choke that almost finished him if it wasn’t for the ending bell of Rd 2.

I'll give you round 1

But Wand found his rhythm in round 2 & 3. Bisping doesn’t respond to pressure that well, at all. Against fighters of a lower caliber he’s fine, but once you put him in with someone that actually brings the fight to him, he wilts.

Side note:
How bad ass was it that Wand almost had a Pride FC flashback and Soccer Kicked Bisping into the land of Wind and Ghosts?

YUS

I saw the same thing, he reared back that leg to obliterate and stopped it after just a second. Was classic.

I'd like to offically tell everyone that...

Told me I was crazy for saying Wandy had it because all Bisping had to do was go for the takedown and unleash some of his “great GNP” that you were wrong. Thanks.

Not only was his ground and pound literally non existent, but the most effective striking on the ground was from Wandy. If you’re looking to employ “vicious ground and pound” then you need to actually keep your opponent on the ground once you get him down. Oh, and Wandy’s “drastic first weight cut” of 10lbs didn’t cause him to gas and fall over dead either. In fact, given about 5 more seconds, Wandy would have had his first sub victory in what? 15 years?

This told you so is really only going out to those that specifically were talking trash on Wandy, not those that were making the Head v Heart arguments.

I still think Bisping needs to work a ton on his wrestling if he hopes to ever have any success at this level as all the GnP in the world is useless if you can’t keep the other guy down, and all the boxing in the world isn’t that great if you’re not able to dictate the place of the fight in one way or another.

bisping is a good fighter

But he doesn’t handle pressure well. I felt if wandi would have just rushed him he could have got the finish but on one hand it was good to see him take a more tactical approach. It was nice to see the leg kicks and he went for a few clinches. Overall a very good fight, actually all the fights were very good.

I was SO happy

My god I’m still buzzing a bit, that wan an AMAZING fight.

That said, did it seem to anyone else that Wandy seemed a little hesitant to pull the trigger? That blitz in the last 15 seconds of the fight was what I was waiting for all along, but Wandy was playing it safe. I wonder why

yeah, he couldn’t afford another loss and I’m happy for him with the W no matter how that came about. I think he’s slowly going back to his former self though, Sexyama better watch out!

Everywhere I’m go, all them guys they says to me to kick for to him!
All them is hate him. I don’t know why, but no is just me, is everybady!

by Orcus on Feb 21, 2010 1:30 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, but that approach lost him the first round

When he got back to his aggressive ways, he took round two, and then when he REALLY opened up, he damn near knocked Bisping out.

Not gonna lie, I was pissed after the first round. My heart broke a little every time I saw Mike reach for a thai clinch and Wandy back out of it. They kept showing Silva warming up throwing knees… and there were no knees to be had.
